Laxman's 281, vs Australia
It could probably be seen as a match saving innings but from this magnificent inning, Laxman (with the help of Dravid) did put us in a position where we had a chance to win the match and the rest was just history. Laxman's innings was characterized by his audacious wrist work and timing. Of course I was only about 7 at the time when the match was played and probably didn't appreciate how significant his innings really was, but it really was one of the greatest moments if not the greatest moment in world cricket in the eyes of an Indian.

So share some of the greatest match winning innings that you have been able to witness!

Gilchrist 149* in 1999 vs Pakistan. Coming in at 5/120 chasing 369 he played the best match winning innings ive ever seen, against a high quality Pakistan attack on a spinning pitch. Saqlain ripped into us in the first innings with his doosra, we had no idea. Gilly just smashed him in the 4th innings.

Laxman, his was great, but one could argue Sachin's bowling in the final session won that test match, though the 281 certainly setup the match, and turned it from a certain defeat to at least a draw. Sachin turned it into a win.

Definitely Adam Gilchrist and his 149* v Pakistan in 1999 at Hobart. 2nd Test innings ever and he gets us over the line in the 4th innings. This is against a bowling attack including Younis, Akram, Ahktar and Saqlain. 5-126 ended up 6-369.

stereotype added 3 Minutes and 26 Seconds later...

ODI would be Michael Bevan in Sydney in 1996 v West Indies New Years Day.

78* down 6-28 at one stage guiding us to 173 with only one wicket remaining hitting a 4 off the final ball to win and that attack was just as good as the 1999 Pakistan attack with Ambrose and Walsh

He also hit an unbeaten hundred in Melbourne v New Zealand in 2002 when we were 6-82 at one stage needing 246 to win and won with 3 balls remaining smashing an attack including Shane Bond and Vettori

That was truly magnificent, obviously as its rated the best innings of all time by cricinfo. He played the ball so late and just looked incredible, the other batsmen had no idea, Gooch was in supreme form from 1990 to 1994.
