International Cricket Council today announced that there will be major changes in the way bi-lateral tournaments are handled correctly. Instead of 8 major countries with Bangladesh playing mostly at home being the 9th team there will be 15 teams that will play bilaterally home and away over a 5 year period. The series will remain standard with each team playing 3 ODI's 3 revamped test match & 1 T20.

Yes you read it correct , revamped test format is a modified test format where each day has been reduced to 50 overs instead of 90 overs which means a test match which used to be 450 overs over the period of 5 days now will be 250 overs. Will it be a success or not is something to be seen.

The points table is revamped as well. The following tables will indicate how a team will be ranked.

Afghanistan began their first bilateral series in Australia by losing the toss and were put in to bowl. Playing Australia in Australia for rankings, new revamped ICC model all must have created butterflies in the stomach of Afghanistan players. The pitch was hard with lots of bounce & coping up with it was not easy. Afghanistan lost 4 wickets early on and Shenwari & Najibullah Zadran tried their best to play through and post a decent score for Afghanistan but in the end the Afghanis were bowled out for 117 runs in the 25th over. Afghanistan was able to cross the 100 mark only thanks to late blitz from Shahpoor Zadran who scored a 5 ball 16. All the senior batsman failed and only N Zadran was able to post a decent score of 31 off 55 deliveries.

Australia in their reply to 118 started poorly. Afghanistan's strong point was always going to be its quicker tall bowlers who have always caused some trouble when the pitch helps them. Steven Smith and Joe Burns were out in the first over by Hassan without troubling the scores. Australia seemed in trouble when Bailey came out and hit a few boundaries and six. Against the run of play David Warner was trapped LBW in front of the wicket. Maxwell came to the crease but soon Bailey departed as Australia were in deep trouble chasing a mere score of 118 with the score being 68/5. Maxwell and Faulkner played their shots as Afghanistan were trying all sorts of combination of spin and fast bowling. It was a shocker that Shahpoor Zadran wasnt bowled until very last & Maxwell meanwhile guided the team brilliantly by playing a calm innings of 44 from 78 deliveries on a hard bouncy pitch. Afghanistan came close but in the end Australia chased down the total that they were expected too.

Hope Afghanistan put up a better batting performance & be little more competitive. With all the butterflies and emotions flying around I hope Afghanistan come out as a settled unit in 2nd ODI to be played at Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Afghanistan traveled to Melbourne from Sydney for the second ODI of the series against Australia. Afghanistan this time around won the toss and elected to bat first which was seen as a very positive move. Mitchel Starc started the proceeding for Australia and straight away struck. Things were not looking good and Afghanistan kept on losing wicket.

Australia started well with Warner & Burns was looking good holding one end when Warner was dismissed and Smith departed too the next ball on his second duck of the series. Bailey & Burns kept on playing the shots and reached their respective half century. Baileys aggression & Burns determination was so solid that Afghanistan had no answer to. In the end Afghanistan lost the match by 8 wickets and have lost their first ever revamped bilateral series 0-2 with 1 more match remaining.

Afghanistan traveled to Bowral from Melbourne to play in the third one-day international of this revamped bi lateral series. Afghanistan are already trailing by 0-2 and since the points system allows them 2 points on a win its has everything to play for. Afghanistan were never expected to win against a full strength Australian side. Afghanistan once again won the toss & elected to bowl first this time around. Steven Smith the Australian captain rested and in his absence David Warner took the captaincy. Shaun Marsh replaced Smith & Faulkner replaced Watson from 2nd ODI.

Shaun Marsh & David Warner came out to bat at this magnificent stadium. It must have been a dream come true for the Afghanistan players. Hassan & Zadran opened the bowling for Afghanistan. Shaun Marsh to protect his place in the side had an important role to play. Warner on the other hand started calmly. Shaun Marsh played some lovely shots. Hassan soon struck and cleaned up Warner's stumps. Joe Burns came out to the crease and was looking unsettled. He was looking out of sorts despite playing a good innings in last match. He soon was caught by Zazai which was beautifully bowled by Mangal. Marsh looked good but he soon departed Australia looked in some sort of trouble as they were 47/3 with Bailey & Maxwell out at the crease. Bailey soon departed too leaving Australia on 65/4. Faulknar was the new man out and it started a magnificent 160 odd runs partnership. Maxwell reached his century and Faulknar his half century. Zadran was introduced and he got ride of Faulknar before Maxwell & Wade were run out on 3 consecutive deliveries getting Afghanistan right into the match. Marsh then played a small cameo & Australia reached 250/9 in the allocated 50 overs. Some mediocre bowling let Australia get away time and again.

Afghanistan came out to bat chasing 250 runs. Their batting had been the biggest issue as the batsman were not able to adapt. Ahmadi & Mangal started cautiously before playing their shots. Ahmadi was holding one end and taking singles whereas Mangal the more senior guy was playing aggressively. The tactic worked for Afghanistan as their opening partnership put up 71 runs before Faulkner clean bowled Ahmadi. Shenwari & Zadran played a magnificent innings too getting Afghanistan close to the total but no one else supported. There were 10's and 11's but no one played a big a innings. In the end Afghanistan fell short by 14 runs.

There was a lot of improvement from the first game and this series has definitely helped Afghanistan and they are pretty sure they would perform better next time they are here. In the end Australia won 3-0 as they were expected too but Afghanistan won many hearts. They will play Australia in Adelaide for a T20 match which I think is the perfect format for them. Hers hoping them good luck for it.

South Africa started off their campaign of Zimbabwe with the first T20 to be played at Harare Sports Club. All the matches of this tournament will be played at the same venue. The players before the series have already expressed their concerns on the quality of the pitch but Zimbabwe Cricket Board have assured that pitches wont be dangerous. Zimbabwe won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Hashim Amla & Hendricks came out to bat for South Africa and Panyangara started the proceedings for South Africa. The pitch seemed like a good track with some bounce on it. Hendricks dint trouble the score much and got out to Panyangara caught by Brendon Taylor who rejoined the Zimbabwe team after the revamped format was announced. Hashim Amla played a brilliant six and followed it with a four before getting out to Kamungozi's spin. Kamungozi's spin seemed unplayable as soon one batsman followed others to the pavilion. South Africa were 5 down for 31 runs and out of which 4 wickets were taken by Kamungozi. Spin bowling was always going to be crucial in this tour and Kamungozi set the tone nicely for the series. JP Duminy & Behardien were at the crease and Duminy played some beautiful shots. He was taking the attack back to Zimbabwe but his cameo ended shortly as Raza yet another spinner cleaned bowled him as the ball stayed a little low. Behardien was guiding Africans to decent total but unfortunately he was run-out. Some would say it was horribly irresponsible. Parnel Abbott hit few sixes to score quick runs but it was in the end too much for lower order and South Africa were bowled out for 107 in the 16th over.

Zimbabwe came out to bat needing 108 but the target was never going to be easy. De Lange starting the proceedings for Africa struck the very first ball getting South Africa into the match as Raza was caught by Abbott in first slip. Masakadza was the new man. South Africa straight away introduced spin as Phangiso came out to bowl. He struck in his very first over and once again proved how spin is going to be a crucial factor in this series. Masakadza departed for 1 & Brendon Taylor was the new man out. Chakvabva and Taylor played with patience & played some good cricketing shots and built a crucial partnership of 79 runs. Zimbabwe were crusing nicely before Phangiso struck twice to peg back Zimbabwe from 82/2 to 93/4. Williams and Mire played few magnificent shots and gave Zimbabwe a morale boosting victory. This victory will go long way and definitely help Zimbabwe ahead in the tournament. Chakvabva's crucial 49 indeed helped Zimbabwe to this crushing victory.

Not writing much but Australia won the toss & elected to bat first. Afghanistan really bowled their hearts out and restricted Australia to 182 runs. Once it looked like Australians would score more but they restricted Mitchel Marsh to a run a ball 39 but Stonis just smacked the bowlers everywhere with his 19 ball 34 runs.

Afghanistan came out to bat wanting to chase 183 runs but in the end it seemed they were under enormous pressure. They lost their first wicket on 9 runs. Ahmadi & Stankzai managed a decent partnership but then started a gigantic collapse. From 50/2 Afghanistan collapsed to 88 for 8. The victory was very far. N Zadran & Hamid Hassan played their shots & Zadrans form off late help save Afghanistan from a huge defeat as Afghanistan were bowled out for 136 runs. Australia have won all the limited over fixtures.

Although Afghanistan have not won a match on this tour, they would like to forget what happened & move to revamped test in a positive way.

tour of
Sri-Lanka-flag.png

New Zealand Cricket Board & Sri Lankan Cricket Board have announced the fixtures for New Zealand's tours of Sri Lanka 2016. As part of the new agreement, New Zealand is all set to play 3 ODI's 1 T20 & 3 Revamped Tests. Sri Lanka are in a tough transition phase with all senior players retired. Angelo Matthews has been a very dedicated captain guiding the team through from ups and lows. It will be interesting to see how Sri Lanka play at home. New Zealand on the other side have tasted a lot of success in the shorter & longer format. Brendon McCullum's will be seen as more of an absence of a player then actually being a morale losing . Kane Williamson has evolved into a terrific player & it will be interesting to see how he leads his side on his first away assignment.

New Zealand will begin the tour with the longer format & then move on to the shorter format.
