We cannot forget 26/11 neither we can forget the people who sacrificed themesleves. There were many officers and commando who died in order to recue the hostages and fight with the terrorosit. Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan was one of them who died and this country lost another brave man. Recently his father visited the Taj Hotel and 3 ays backs and told the staff he is father Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and wants to see the place where his son died and the staff asked "Who is Major Sandeep?"

Well i am not surprised to this because this is such a country where Martyrs treated like this  Proud To be an Indian :banana2 :banana2

Proud ??? what for ?? Proud my foot :sarcasm

Its natural for the human mind to forget whats happened a year ago. There are certain people whom you remember more because the media projects them often. Major Sandeep died but it was a few minutes/hours of bravery that people wont remember. If it had been for a longer enough time and had got enough media publicity, people will remember it.

As long as people respect him once they remember him, its good. Its not a big deal if they had forgotten him. We cant remember all martyrs and freedom fighters for 365 days a year, 24/7. We remember Gandhi, Nehru, Subash Chandra Bose, Chandrasekar Azad or a few others because these were prominent personalities who also got good media coverage for their deeds, but there were thousands of people who fought for the country and who died for it. Do we remember all of them? We cant.

We have our own lives to take care of too. And people's memories are not that sharp for them to immediately remember a person who died a year ago for the country.

Wrong. The guys you mentioned are remembered because they succeeded in what they did. Not because of media coverage. If the situation had been brought under control earlier and if the people involved did not lose face, his death would have been more meaningful. He isn't remembered because the people defending the place that day failed. Nothing more nothing less.

Now I guess it is time to wait for the 12 year old noobz to storm the thread. ████ will hit the fan in 3...2...1...

Sad but true, ask the average American who the Virginia Tech shooter was and they can't remember.

The media uses and abuses these tragic events and as soon as the ratings dip they drop it like a hot potato.

I am sure this man will never be forgotten by the people he was trying to protect and his family, in the end that is what really matters.

I cannot believe it has been a year already. I visited Mumbai over the summer and they've restored about 95% of the building to be as good as new, but have preserved a small section of it on the side. You can see bullet holes, smashed windows, and broken doors. It is a really chilling sight.
From the front, it looks like any other glamorous 5 star hotel, with Benze's and Beamer's rolling through, sophisticated businessmen moving in and out, a beautiful interior, and of course the smartly dressed staff that were courteous and seemed to know over 5 languages. But only when you see the remains of 26/11 do you remember the sight of the Taj on fire, terrorists storming through the hotel and commandos trying their best to save these people. It was extremely chilling.

I stayed in the Taj Land's End, a sister hotel to the main Taj on my visit. Security was air tight. Took about half an hour from the gate of the hotel to getting inside with all the checks.

RIP Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, and to those who lost their lives on November 26th, 2008. My thoughts and prayers are with their families.

It's heart breaking :(

Sandeep Unnikrishnan was a Major in the Indian Army serving in the elite National Security Guards (NSG). He was killed in action while fighting terrorists in the November 2008 Mumbai attacks.[1] His bravery was honoured with the Ashoka Chakra on 26 January 2009.[2]

?Do not come up, I will handle them?, were probably the last words which Major Unnikrishnan told his men as he was hit by bullets while engaging well armed terrorists inside the Taj Hotel, Mumbai during Operation Black Tornado.[3]

Later, NSG sources clarified that when a Commando got injured during the operation, Major Unnikrishnan arranged for his evacuation and started chasing the terrorists himself. The terrorists escaped to another floor of the hotel and during the chase Major Unnikrishnan was seriously injured and succumbed to his injuries.[3]

There's a huge rally coming up in 2 days of who's i ll be a part of, with candles .

Just what i wanted to post!

I can't believe it's an year already. The pain, the tragedy, The triumph, the Sacrifice, everything feels like it's happened yesterday. Not many months after the trauma i visited Mumbai, in April. The City was as casual as it could be, the people from all parts of the world visiting the Taj, but there's a sort of pain you feel in love that's in Mumbai. It's such a beautiful city and thinking about 26/11, only makes us think why should it have happened. Yes, it's an eye-opener to diminish carelessness, but they all do it too late. There was a security man padded with, and has heavy rifles at the entrance of Victoria Terminal. It was all too late. The feelings of people got stronger against terrorism and protecting the country against any sort of crimes. But it's dropping out as secondary to their priorities.

The 26/11 has taken away more than 200 lives, and torn away some lives, heartbreaking stories came up, anger had no end, But people should and always need to remember the martyrs who SACRIFICED Their lives for Us, Would we do the same as they if we were to play as a commando tackling the terrorists and Ensuring the endangered lives of the people?

Once and for all, let's take out to do something for the country, contribute to at least make sure the SACRIFICE of the great commandos never go in vain.

RIP to all the martyrs. Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Hemant Karkare, Ashok Kamte, Vijay Salaskar, Shashank Shinde.

Tears fall off my eyes. We'll never let this bloody incident happen again, ever. Whatever happens.

JAI HIND.

We have great men in our army who are ready to even give up their lives for the nation. They need the best possible gear and the best possible backup to fight the terrorists. Thats the best thing that the country can give them instead of honoring them after their death with all these "Ashoka Chakra's", etc. These guys fight for our lives, fight the enemy so that we can happily live in our very own corrupted lives (this is to the politicians and all those who are corrupt). So give them atleast the protection so that they have all chances to live.

You are right, our army is ready to sacrifice themesleves for the nation but the country cannot even provide them with latest gears. Most of the officers died at 26/11 due to lack of good bulletproof jacket. They had to fight with rusted guns. Terrorist were fighting with AK 47, Mp 5,7 and our men were still busy with shotguns :doh Technologies has developed so much that now these days, there are corner shot guns. With this gun people can see if there are anyone on a corner or not. With so much improved technologies, still our men are way behind the lines :( Cmon, give them what they need. Spend you bloody rascals

Where do you think the 3/3 attackers came from?

Hint: You live there.

Don't turn this into another 'you did it, not me' thread please. For God's sake!

I think Chetan was referring to the Swiss terrorists, they must be stopped!
