Should ODIs be scrapped?

You're entitled to your opinion but I think you're being pretty naive. The BCCI wields more power than any other national board in the ICC due to the massive television deals. If you're telling me that the fact the iCC test championship was postponed and the DRS still isn't being universally used are nothing to do with the BCCI's agenda then you need to wake up and smell the coffee.

DRS yes, but Test Championship? I think thats a bit too much

Swann is off his rocker. His view is clouded by the fact that England can't seem to win at ODIs however I have to say that a few comments by Indians on this thread are a bit biased. Swann has a point that they need to reduce the amount of cricket in the calendar, however this should be done by reduction in t20 (Shorten the IPL but give it it's own slot). T20 isn't really based on skill just luck on the day (Netherlands beating England come to mind?) so it's left to ODI to decide in a tournament who are world champions (Oh by the way, who is that?) and also ODI provides the perfect platform for teams to try new players who can then go on to play test cricket and may be future stars.

Is he off his rocker or not?

Two unrelated points. the 1st about scrapping ODIs and the second was implied from the comment about reducing the amount of cricket played

Well Swann is completely right. England should be scrapped from the ODI format as they are more or less useless plus he knows there is another Indian tour coming up of 4 test and 7 ODI's next winter in October somewhat and surely he does not want to get humiliated again with a 7-0 performance. Sometimes I feel, th on going West Indies series is more exvciting to watch then the concluded England series where England just knew they were not going to win it due to their mental thinking blockage of ODI cricket

Would love to see what they do un their upcoming 3 tours in test as well because once they start losing he will say scrap test or change the format but Mr Swann you aint BCCI ;)

Well even you know and even others know, keep one more series and you will know your position back home too.. Your luck was just too good that time and you should thank the weather god cause leaving one match we dominated.

The same mental blockage that stopped us beating India and Sri Lanka in England... wait... no.

What mental blockage are you talking ?? India has won both ODI and test series in England in the last decade. How many series has England in India in the past decade or even avoided an ODI whitewash? The answer would be ZERO !! Murphy just struck India during the last tour...England does have a mental blockage when they see Indian spinners

The series was actually won 3-0. Now look what has happened

India 274/7 (50 ov); England 27/2 (7.2 ov)
No result

Dont tell me England would have won that match :rolleyes

India 187/8 (23/23 ov); England 188/3 (22.1/23 ov)
England won by 7 wickets (with 5 balls remaining)

Yes this was your match heads down :thumbs

3rd ODI: England v India at The Oval - Sep 9, 2011
India 234/7 (50 ov); England 218/7 (41.5/43 ov)
England won by 3 wickets (with 7 balls remaining) (D/L method)

Dont think this would have been your match if Rain would have not interfered and yes, the evaluation was pretty BS. But still if you want I will give you this match.

India 280/5 (50 ov); England 270/8 (48.5/48.5 ov)
Match tied (D/L method)

Oh come on for god's sake Weather help India too :p 2-2 the series?

5th ODI: England v India at Cardiff - Sep 16, 2011
India 304/6 (50 ov); England 241/4 (32.2/34 ov)
England won by 6 wickets (with 10 balls remaining) (D/L method)

Come on tweaking Weather let England play on their ability and not DL. Let them show their talent!! Oh wait!! You dont like ODI, so? Who cares?

Come on fried chickening Weather let England play on their ability and not DL. Let them show their talent!! Oh wait!! You dont like ODI, so? Who cares?

So you mean to say a team that managed 241/4 in just 32 overs wouldn't have seen off 302 in 50 overs?

India 274/7 (50 ov); England 27/2 (7.2 ov)
No result
Dont tell me England would have won that match :rolleyes

England were 27-2 needing 281 to win the 3rd ODI (which's greater than the required target here), before the match ended in a tie...
So if anything, this should have been England's game...

----------

All in all, if it were not for the dreaded rain, it'd have ended 4-0 in England's favour...

----------

England were 27-2 needing 281 to win the 4th ODI (which's greater than the required target here), before the match ended in a tie...
So if anything, this should have been England's game...

Fixed.
