The ICC announced a radical shake-up of the current international cricket competitions: since many countries are not able to host successful test series and the fact that many test matches are not going the full distance of five days, a new three tier four day league system has been divised both to enable much more competition and to enthuse more people to longer forms of the game.

There will be three leagues: the first divison will be the current test-playing nations, the second league the asscociate members and the third league will consist of lower tier teams.

Each league will run as a four-day league, enabling the top four finishers in each league to play final matches to determine the final league placings. Two teams will be relegated and promoted from each league.

The ICC hopes that this will offer an attractive alternative to short-ball cricket and bring cricket to a wider audience. Competition will enable lower ranked nations to develop cricket in their respective countries and benefit from the televison deals that have been made.

I myself will be playing as The Netherlands and will be simulating each round of games in each division as my games take place: should be fun. I might add seperate Twenty20 and ODI leagues to the current formats. Thanks to all the great creators out there for the teams, stadiums, bats, kits and players.

First round of fixtures as inaugural World First Class Leagues get underway:

ICC First Class League Division One

The Netherlands v Scotland at Amstelveen Cricket Ground, Amsterdam

Netherlands v Scotland: The Netherlands host Scotland at a pristine but sparsely populated Amstelveen for their first round four day game. Scotland won the toss dispite skies being cloudy. They got off to a great start with both openers cautiously making their way pass the new ball attack. A beautiful seaming ball from Tim van der Gugten caught the outside edge of Hamish Gardner which then signaled a tough period for the Scots in which they lost three quick wickets to rather poor shot choices. Offspinner van der Merwe contributed with two wickets and Ahsan Malik, called in in place of out of form van Meerkerken made a fine debut.

The Scots will need to have a good rethink of their gameplan during lunch. the Dutch have a strangle hold on the game and will be hoping to wrap up the innings during the next session: at lunch then Scotland struggling at 76-5.

Interested to know how many of your games will last the full 4 days. Can't see games lasting more than 2/3 days if you are simulating.

Scotland Show Grit: Dutch Still On Top

Josh Davey and Con de Lange gave Scotland a little bit to cheer about in the second session after lunch against the Dutch at Amstelveen.
The Dutch once again had the Scots on the ropes after lunch as it seems a real collapse was on the cards after both Berrington, who fought well and patiently trying to keep up one end, and Taylor both fell to over aggressive shot choices, holing out at mid-off and square respectively. A familiar tale unfolded as before lunch. But Davey and de Lange showed some fight and bottle and steered the Scots towards tea without any more wickets falling. The pick of the bowling in the afternoon session was once again van Der Gugten who bowled a constant probing line. Captain Peter Borren will be very pleased to see the tight bowling that has been on display by all the bowlers although van der Merwe gave too much width at crucial moments. The pitch, which was slow and dusty to start with will have just become more flat as the afternoon sun wears on. If Scotland can edge their way towards two hundred they will feel they are still in the game. One would have thought we will see more of the spin bowlers as the afternoon draws on.

Looks good are you using any form of bonus point system and two relegated from the top division? How about the second from last plays off with the top team in the below division.

Yeah there are batting and bowling points to be had. I think a straight up down system works best for now although I quite like the idea...

End of Day One: The Netherlands v Scotland, Amstelveen, Amsterdam

Last wicket stand frustrates Dutch as Scotland force the play.

An excellent last session from the Scots lead by the patient Davey with help from both de Lange and last man Evans. Dutch paceman Malik wont have enough fingers and toes to count the amount of times he beat Evans's bat but as the pace of the wicket slowed there were no demons and batting became relatively easy.

Davey who has had a consistent year showed once again that he forms the rigid backbone of the middle order and it will once again ignite the discussion that he should be batting higher. Admirable concentration and application; he showed his colleagues that you dont need to whack the ball around for runs. He has grinded his way towards a wonderful century opportunity. It wasnt pretty but pretty isnt on the scoreboard.

Dutch captain Peter Borren: "We lost the plot somewhat after tea and started chasing the wicket instead of sticking to our line and length. Credit to the Scots though and Davey in particular."

Can Evans stick around long enough for Davey to get that illustrious century? The Dutch will be hoping for not.

At 75 for 5 the game was running away for the Scots: now you would have to say: honours even.

Dutch Caught Napping: de Lange Steamrolls Dutch Despite Baressi Resistance

Scotland
would have been both surprised and content to see the Dutch batting unit display the same cavalier attitude as themselves. Too many players on the Dutch side were not willing to take the time to get in and adjust to the pace and conditions. The morning mist which is common around Amsterdam at this time of the year played a factor in the conditions but at start of play a largely cloudless and sunny sky had already dried what little moisture there would have been around the ground. perhaps this gave the Dutch to much confidence. They had seen the ball keep true and had offered little help to the bowlers in their bowling innings and had possibly become too complacent. But Con de Lange bowled a sublime and unplayable line, picking up wickets steadily and finishing with a career best 6-51. The ball that bowled Cooper was simply sublime and unplayable: it bounced a little lower than Cooper expected, dipped and and knocked off the bail on off-stump. All credit must be given to de Lange but he certainly was aided by some rather uncharacteristic sloppy Dutch footwork.

That being said the Scots came out and had a clear and steady gameplan, bowling a full length that they consistently applied. The fielding was sharp and concentrated making rotating the strike no easy thing. This lead to a panic in the Dutch batting unit in trying to force runs, getting out to needless shots and run-outs. Only Baressi, like Davey in the Scottish batting, was able to offer some form of resistance. But as he saw the wickets tumble around him he stepped on the accelerator in the hope of edging as close as possible to the Scottish score.

Scotland go in to their second innings with a sizeable lead, something they would not have thought of having when they were 75 for 5. Now they can dictate the pace of the game.

The Dutch have it all to do and if truth be told they have no reason to be all too confident in being able to do it!

Scotland Near Safe Haven As Berrington and Machan Steady The Ship: End Of Day Two

It was slow going as Ritchie Berrington and Matt Machan pushed Scotland towards a sizeable and potentially match-winning total. Learning from mistakes in the first innings, they watched the ball carefully and waited for the bad ball to pounce upon.

It was overall a disciplined bowling effort from the Dutch. Van der Gugten was rewarded for some excellent bowling with the new ball which left the Scots reeling somewhat. But Berrington and Machan adjusted well to the conditions and steered Scotland towards the close without any more serious alarms.

Scotland captain Kyle Coetzer: "Great effort by Ritchie and Mattie: dogged stuff. The Dutch bowled well but we dug in there and can be happy with our position. The boys need to push on tomorrow and hopefully we will get that lead up so that we can have a bowl at them sometime tomorrow"

Coetzer wouldn't be drawn on a possible target total but one would of thought that anything more than 250, 270 would be beyond this frail Dutch batting line-up. The match is Scotland's to lose and time is on their hands.

Dutch captain Peter Borren: "The lads put in the effort and we were intially rewarded but as the shine came off the ball the Scots were able to dicatate the game. We will come back tomorrow fresh and hopefully put them under pressure."

Borren, when pushed whether his field placings had been too defensive replied: "Well I'm out there in the middle. Its easier looking on from the boundary. We had them under pressure and had we had a bit more luck we would have nicked a couple more wickets."

Tomorrow is expected to be another fine day in Amstelveen so join us at 11 o 'clock as this tussle unfolds itself.

Scots Set Dutch Tough Target To Win: But It Could Have Been Worse!

The Dutch
will have to face four sessions to either score 287 runs or bat out for a draw (given the slow pace of this game not entirely unthinkable). Matt Machan made a sterling 94 but will be kicking himself in his sleep as he was beaten by de flight of a straight one by van der Merwe that knocked back the middle peg. His slow march off the field a witness to the fact that he knew he had let a wonderful chance for a century go begging.

Wickets tumbled quickly after that and the Scots will be slightly disappointed that they didn't push the score past 300. Nevertheless, considering the first innings efforts, the Dutch wont be too confident.

Malik, van der Gugten and van der Merwe shared the prizes on the bowling card but all of the Dutch pace men were once again guilty of bowling too short a length.

The Dutch will need to come out after tea determined to seee the shine and bounce oof the new ball and play with more application than they showed in the first innings.

The smart money is on Scotland taking the points back home.

Scotland Take Out Top Order: Barresi and van der Merwe Building A Wall Even Trump Would Be Proud Of!

Wesley Barressi
and Roelof van der Merwe offered stiff resistance, a precious commodity in the Dutch side, as they went about trying to stop the rot. they at least gave Scotland something to think about and take the game into the last day.

15 overs were lost because of rain before lunch and the game could go on for an extra half an hour should it be needed. One would feel that a result either way will have been reached long before then. Scotland have the Dutch under pressure and if they can get one of these two out early tomorrow they will have one foot firmly in the door of the tail.

Barresi continued his fine form from the first innings and was well supported by van der Merwe as they recovered from a top order batting collapse leaving the Dutch reeling with just 40 odd on the board. Michael Swart can at least say that he was undone by a superb de Lange off-break that kept low, whilst the other batsman look desperately short of confidence.

If Barresi and van der Merwe can keep the Scots out tomorrow morning until lunch we might, just might still have a game on our hands
