West Indies will tour England in July 2020 to play 3 Test matches. This will be the first international cricket series to take place since the coronavirus pandemic disrupted the international cricket calendar.
Darren Bravo, Shimron Hetmyer and Keemo Paul have declined to tour, owing to concerns about the pandemic.

It will be really weird to watch it on TV with completely empty stands. But I will still probably end up watching it ball by ball (esp given the convenient timing) after having watched ZERO live cricket for what feels like ages

Just hope that West Indies punch well above their waist and make it an interesting series. England will start as easy favorites without a doubt

West Indies' batting lineup is truly shocking unfortunately. Hope and Brathwaite, two batsmen most suited to tests have been on a long run of poor form and will need to step up big time. Bravo and Hetmyer will not be significant losses though, Bravo was awful in the tests he played recently while Hetmyer is ideally suited to bat in the middle order and those are some of the more fiercely contested spots in this team. I would like to see Chase and Holder bat a position higher up at the moment. The inclusion of the talented Cornwall should free up Chase to focus exclusively on his batting while adding batting depth that could allow Holder move up. This is the team that I would like to see

  1. Brathwaite
  2. Campbell
  3. Hope
  4. Chase
  5. Blackwood
  6. J. Holder:c:
  7. Dowrich:wk:
  8. Cornwall
  9. Roach
  10. Joseph
  11. C. Holder
Brathwaite's biggest responsibility will be to occupy the crease for as long as possible. In two of West Indies victories over England at home, Brathwaite managed to face over a hundred deliveries in the first innings which allowed the batsmen following him to make useful contributions even if Brathwaite himself never crossed fifty. You could always include Reifer in place of Chemar Holder to alleviate any batting depth concerns but I would like to see the youngster bowl and there are few better places in the world than England for a pacer to get their career started.

I'm used to it, after watching the PSL the last couple of years in the UAE

I believe Holder is currently the weakest link in the West Indies bowling in terms of pace. He does bowl accurately and is quite economical as well. But tbh he doesn't look threatening as compared to the likes of Cottrell and Gabriel.

That isnt true imo. He is currently the highest ranked WI test bowler at #3 and the #1 test all rounder. He is averaging 17.25 from 2019 and 14.22 from 2018. Admittedly, his records in England are far from impressive(he averages 39 in 3 matches) but calling him the weakest link is an injustice to the bowler he has been for a good amount of time now.

Exactly what Neptune said above, he may not look threatening, but certainly gets the job done.

Cottrell doesn't even play test cricket so I'm not sure what this is about.

Weakest link in terms of pace means he is the slowest of all and on flat wickets he may struggle. Btw just saw his record, he averages a miraculous 12.39 in 2019. I might have confused his poor ODI stats where he averages a poor 50.00!!![DOUBLEPOST=1592413282][/DOUBLEPOST]

I'm absolutely flabbergasted that England have opted for Bairstow yet again when he has proven to be a liability with both bat and glove in test cricket for quite some time. I understand Bairstow's personal motivation for wanting to be back in the team as a keeper but surely the team would know by now that he doesn't cut it as a batsman let alone a keeper? In addition, he has barely played any first-class cricket so his inclusion based on reputation is ludicrous when the current backup should easily be the first choice.

The spinner debate is puzzling too. Ali has been great at home but the last time he played, he was shot to pieces mentally and had zero control. He hasn't returned to form with the red ball either if I'm right. On the other hand, the current incumbents haven't set a foot wrong and deserve more chances. Ali the test batsman is a myth too given his issues with short balls and his average being below twenty over the last two years. If you're worried about the batting depth, you might as well stick Curran or Woakes in as the third pacer or coach Archer to not do the worst impression of Afridi possible.

You know I was just reading few comments around some YouTube video about Gilly. And @Bevab I was quite surprised they rated Bairstow as the next Gilchrist in Test Cricket. I mean in what world they were living in ? They said about 3 players Bairstow, De Kock and BJ Watling and to add to it they rated Bairstow ahead of De Kock and BJ Watling. In my view Bairstow definitely used to be a great batsman till the time he changed his technique to suit the limited overs format. Right now if someone would ask me about it my vote clearly goes to BJ and then De Kock. I think even Paine and Buttler are better than Bairstow. To me BJ is once in a generation player for that role. He has played about 70 matches and have scored close to 4,000 runs and amongst the few wicket keepers to score a double hundred. For someone who keeps close to 100-120 overs and yet be so consistent with the bat is a big achievement.

Jason Holder is not all out aggressive, he's more of a line and length bowler. But he's not slow by any means. And his batting is pretty good.

I am dying to see Rahkeem Cornwall play a Test in England. He's large. So what? He knows it, but find me a better slip fielder in the world today. And bowling from a legit 9 foot release and dipping the ball, he doesn't need to turn it much from his 4-step run up.

Seeing him, I get inspired that one day, I can too play test cricket. :p

Say what you like, but this is a guy who has cricket in his blood and who absolutely believes in West Indies cricket to his bones. And you'd have to go far to get to his bones. That's how much he believes.

Get this fun fact about him...he's not that bad of a wicketkeeper either. His hand speed is pretty excellent.

The guy impressed so much that in India's last Caribbean tour after the warmup game where he took a 5-for...none other than Virat Kohli specifically asked for him to bowl in the nets. Needless to say, he didn't get Virat out in the subsequent Test (Cornwall's debut), but he got 3 wickets against some of the best spin players around today.

(EDIT: Added in the Kohli anecdote.)

(DOUBLE EDIT: Adding in a video for Chemar Holder to be selected if Shannon Gabriel doesn't pass the fitness test. It's an official Cricket West Indies video, so I shouldn't be in any trouble with copyright.)
