If i may make a suggestion. Unless the 12 contains 1 player from each test playing nation can this really be called a World XI? That'd make the selection far more interesting and less of a Harlem Globetrotters.

Fair point.

Maybe I now have three ideas.

A best XI in test cricket right now...
A World XII with one player per nation
An associate Test XI[DOUBLEPOST=1610019169][/DOUBLEPOST]Gonna need to think hard about my World XII though...

Definitely gonna have Warner and Pujara...

I would vote one player per nation. I think it adds a bit of spice to the selection, makes for some tough selection.

Just tried coming up with a World XI from each test playing nation. It's really tough trying to find a good balance.

Karunaratne and Elgar opening.

Williamson, Smith, Stokes at 3-5. Feel like KW, Smith, VK is a 2 out of 3 choice if you want Stokes (and at least one bowler from Aus/NZ/Ind). Shakib could be an alternative and then take Broad or Anderson for the bowling attack.

Shakib and Taylor (keeping) or Ervine and Mushfiqur. Tamim Iqbal is an opening option (instead of Elgar), so you could bring in Rabada as a bowler or de Kock as keeper. Azhar Ali actually has a decent record opening. So, it could be Elgar out and Rabada in for a bit of pace. If it was real life I'd probably want another keeper and potentially go for Rizwan or Mushfiqur.

West Indian option. I would clearly ignore the batting and so it's between Holder or Roach.

I'm left with Bumrah, Roach, Abbas as my bowlers (Rashid Khan seems like an obvious choice for the spin role).

Irish option really feels like a case of who would be the best 12th man.

Stokes and Shakib is perhaps OTT, so it could be Anderson or Broad instead to boost the bowling.

It's incredibly tough but quite fun to have to think around the various options.

Does that list include Zimbabwe, Ireland etc or just the top 10 ranked teams?

There are XII teams so you can easily pick a XII with one from each nation... It's a toughy though.

This is my first attempt and I might change it up

Tamim Iqbal
Dean Elgar
Kane Williamson (c)
Steve Smith
Kusal Mendes
Ben Stokes
Mohammed Rizwan (+)
Jason Holder
Rashid Khan
Jasprit Bumrah
Tim Murtagh

12th man: Brendan Taylor

Some tough picks there...

I would go Murtagh but ruled him out because he chose Middlesex instead.

Could you give me your current World Test XIs please. It's for a Cricket 19 thing I am doing.

Needs at least one spinner...
Didn't say what conditions we were picking for, so I'm going to assume it's for Day Five at Chattogram.

:ind: :bat: Rohit Sharma
:eng: :bat: Alastair Cook
:ind: :bat: Cheteshwar Pujara
:ind: :bat: Virat Kohli
:eng: :ar: Ben Stokes
:ind: :ar: Ravindra Jadeja
:pak: :wk: Mohammad Rizwan
:ind: :ar: Ravichandran Ashwin
:afg: :bwl: Rashid Khan
:aus: :bwl: Pat Cummins
:ind: :bwl: Kuldeep Yadav

It's all about spin

(Yeah this isn't a 100% serious World XI, but it'd be a very good XI in certain specific conditions)

Best Test XI (no restrictions on XI)

1. David Warner :aus:
2. Tom Latham (wk) :nz:
3. Marnus Labuschagne :aus:
4. Steve Smith :aus:
5. Virat Kohli :ind:
6. Kane Williamson (c) :nz:
7. Ben Stokes :eng:
8. Jason Holder :wi:
9. Pat Cummins :aus:
10. Jasprit Bumrah :ind:
11. Nathan Lyon :aus:

Best Test XI (One per nation)

1. Dimuth Karunaratne :sri:
2. Dean Elgar :saf:
3. Kane Williamson (c) :nz:
4. Steve Smith :aus:
5. Babar Azam :pak:
6. Ben Stokes :eng:
7. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk) :ban:
8. Jason Holder :wi:
9. Rashid Khan :afg:
10. Jasprit Bumrah :ind:
11. Tim Murtagh :ire:

12. Brendon Taylor :zim:

Looking at my team with no restrictions I realise I've had a lot of Australian bias there but I find it hard to now have those 5 players in a "best XI team" at the moment as they dominate the rest of the competition in their respective positions.
Marnus and Smith both averaging over 60+
Warner almost averaging 50.
Lyon and Cummins the best spinner and pace bowler in the world respectively.
Only change I would make to the team if the team played on the subcontinent is - Holder out and Ashwin in.
