Not convinced that an all pace attack is the way to go, the pacemen didn't exactly take many 2nd innings wickets in Brisbane did they?
On a juicy green and grassy WACA with bounce yes, but there are hardly any of those pitches anywhere else in the world, if any.
So what, Hauritz is no Shane Warne, but he is a decent spinner with a good international record.
And I'd hardly chalk this one up for the all pace attack anyway, seeing as only 2 of them took wickets.
Am pretty sure Watson can match Ben Hilfenhaus' useless strike rate of a wicket every 700 balls.

tbh the 4th seamer (Siddle) didn't do much besides get that flukey wicket of Prior.

A bit over the top calling it a "fluke" dimissal. Ok you dont see a batsman getting out like that every day. But Prior was quite clearly worked over by a short pitched attack.

Secondly of course AUS will have to bowl on less responsive pitches in the future of course & the 4th seamer thus will obviously have more bowling to do.

So theirfore after 2 years of various spinners failing to wicket-taking threats on flat decks or 4th/5th day wearing tracks. After this test match perfornace the 4-man pace attack deserves its chance to also bowl in those conditions & prove they can also take wickets as a group in those conditions. Before any talk of bringing back any spinner should be considered.

If you took 2 seconds to think, you'd realise that the selectors are planning on playing 4 quicks in Melbourne, and they've gone unchanged for no other reasons that as a psychological advantage. Going in unchanged shows that they've got belief in and are very comfortable with the current side. Swapping Hauritz for Beer when they won't play either in Melbourne would show that they still don't feel completely confident.

You can't play 4 quicks in Melbourne. The pitch isn't like it was at the WACA. So if they play 4 quicks, they're even more stupid than I thought. Siddle should be dropped (hasn't done anything since his six in the first test), Hauritz should be in, or at least a spinner that's not Beer (either Smith should drop down and play Ferguson at 6 or play O'Keefe or even Holland).

As i mentioned efore of course AUS will not bowl on Perth like pitches every day - fact. Thus in the future the 4th seamer will obviously have more work to do.

Thus with the constact failing on spinners picked over the last two years to bowl well on flat pitches & wearing 4th/5th day pitches. The 4-man attack should be given a chance in MCG to see if they can win AUS a test match in those conditions, before any talk of a spinner is mentioned again for this Ashes & in the future.

Its stunning that you could categorise Hauritz international test record as that of "decent spinner". But that horse has been beaten to death already so i'm not going to debate that highly incorrect assertion again.

Finally on Hilfenhaus. Do you possible subscribe that just maybeeee Hilfenhaus just like his bowling performance in India recently, bowl farr better than his figures suggest in Perth. Or his figures reflect accurately & he bowled poorly?.

Smith is already in as a potential spinner.

Plus what makes you so confident that if the pitch wears/turns @ MCG & SCG like it did at adelaide that any one of Hauritz, O'Keefe, Beer, Holland will be good enough to exploit the conditions?.

I dont & its beyond me that people are still talking about Hauritz.

Some people don't realise Smith played as a specialist spinner verses Pakistan. It doesn't matter anyway cause 4 quicks is our strength plus having a developing spinner in Smith ( who has taken big halls in domestic cricket )should be seen as a bonus. Most of our success in matches against the top4 teams has come without playing a specialist spinner , so why play one?If 4 pacers wont win us games then 3 good ones and ann average spinner wont fear better.I agree with war, lets give 4 quicks plus Smith a long run in the team.
