Irish cricket is on the rise. For a while there the Irish had a team in the domestic one day competition in England. That worked out well but now that they're more establish and have half the team contracted to country cricket clubs there is no need for it anymore.

But what would everyone think of the idea of having a country cricket team based out of Belfast? It wouldn't be a national team so anybody could play for them, but it would be a good way to further develop and discover local Irish cricketing talent as well as giving cricket more exposure and a stronger presence in Ireland.

Thoughts?

I'd love to see (more) international involvement in the English domestic scene. But it won't happen in the four-day comp until there are enough full-time professionals in Scotland, Ireland, Netherlands, etc. The cost would be under a million per squad per year, so it's chicken feed, but it hasn't happened. Which is why I would love to see a latter-day Robin Hood stealing from the IPL (or some overly privileged counties grrr :mad) to further this cause. :lol
