My first memory of the sport was watching India in the 1992 World Cup. There was something about the jersey at that time that caught my attention. Till date, I think that was the best one India has had. Of course, it wasn't until the WC 1996 that I seriously got involved in cricket and watched about 90% of the matches live - no matter which teams were playing. I remember my father advising me to not watch neutral matches so as to not "waste time". Those were the golden days.

I watched 2009 T20 Final because everyone in my home was watching it
But I really started following in 2011 WC. It was so interesting to see our team doing well. I remember arguing with my school friends on how many wickets Afridi will take in the next game

You missed the best era (2002-2010) of Indian test match cricket overseas.

Regret it. But thankfully YouTube is still there. I watched Sehwag's 319 against South Africa back in 2008 on YouTube just 3-4 years ago. What an innings that was, pure class !!!!!! Also Ganguly's 139 against Australia in 2004 on a seaming track at The Gabba was so good !! I would like to know a lot about that era from you. Hopefully you have forgiven me for what I did few weeks ago. Maybe we both hailing from Mumbai can help us a bit more to know about each other. Would wait for your reply via PM/VM on this forum. :thumbs

A lot more guys impacted my initial years, but that would keep just adding, so I will stop here... :D For me, Ganguly and Dravid began their peak much much later and that's why they are not on my "cricketers who impacted you the most in your initial years" list. Yes they announced their arrival at Lord's in 96 but everyone waited to see if they will live up to it on a long term basis and eventually they started their peaks around 98-99.

No no please continue you are most welcomed to share your views :cheers

For me it was the 82-3 Ashes series, although in those days you only got highlights on TV, shown pretty much just before the next day began!

England were absolutely awful in those days. In fact Australia weren't great either. I remember listening to TMS in bed as England won the Melbourne test by a couple of runs. Thrilling stuff!

Ganguly's knock at The Gabba was the work of genius. Solid as a rock.

Remember as a young teenager hearing about the likes of Lara and Warne, but only started watching Live cricket during 1994/1995 when RSA toured AUS or it might have been the other way around. Then only was I introduced to our National team with the likes of the late Hansie Cronje, Fanie de Villiers, Alan Donald, Brian McMillan and Andrew Hudson. I remembered big Merv Hughes being taunted by the crowd and actually swinging his bat at the crowd... If I can recall correctly the Aussies also had a ball tampering incident back then also ... Been hooked ever since.

Not a problem bcoz many Countries do it but get away by it I wasn't pleased with the decision taken by Australia. I would say it was 'Much Harsher' punishment for both the players. A one Match or a 5 match-ban was enough. But can't say much either as it was about self-integrity of a Country

He might've also given you a lot of Homework the next day :lol

He drove us to the ground! This was in the middle of a huge parent-teacher conference thing and he's like "I wish I was in the Oval now watching the cricket" and me and a couple of my friends said "Well sir let's go" he said "Your parents are here" we said "And? Sir let's go we wanna watch the cricket too"

One of the best cricket memories I've ever had...

EDIT: Mobile phones were not a big thing in those days. My father and grandmother did not find me until about two hours after the close of play when I showed up at home. Lots of questions and the answers were all "I was with a teacher!"

My oldest cricket related memory is the dreadful attack on Sri Lankan team in Lahore. I remember my elder brother coming home from his school and telling me there was an attack on Sri Lankan cricket team. I didn't care as I just used to play cricket and didn't watch it and had no idea that a Sri Lankan team was touring.

My first cricket watching memory is the 2012 World T20. I seriously started following cricket after 2016 World T20. I have watched nearly all of the Pakistan team games since then. I remember Pakistan's famous "Maghrib Chase" when they chased 302 runs in 59 overs on day 5 against Sri Lanka in UAE (I think it was 2013). I also remember the Pakistan tour of India 2012/13 series.
