7.8 crores for one game! Feel for Jadhav though.

Big news: CSK have put in the paperwork with the IPL approval committee to get David Willey. Will be a big signing if they get him as replacement for Santner because it will also help in minimizing the impact of losing Jadhav and also shore up CSK's fast bowling. Almost like hitting 'three birds in one stone'

With Willey in now, CSK can also go for this lineup...

This surely increases the batting depth, not to forget the number of bowling options (5 pacers + 2 spinners) it gives . Also, Karn Sharma can come in for Shardul when the pitch is a rank turner. David Willey and Shane Watson opening together can give a blast at the start.

Agree. It seems Billings wants to bat more down the order. In that case, Willey can open with Watson and Rayudu slots down the order. Also with Willey playing, Karn Sharma will come in for Tahir. Karn Sharma is a very useful batsman who can play some big shots, unlike Tahir who is a pure tail ender.

This is big

Raina out for 2 matches. Although CSK who have won 2 matches should be a bit more relaxed.

Considering the way he performed so far, should not be a big miss. I think Dhruv Shorey takes Raina place and Rayudu retains opening spot is what I think will happen (they won’t break a successful opening pair). Other than that, no changes. Faf will find it hard to get games with Billings, Watson and Bravo performing so well. Willey will take Tahir place once he joins CSK, but not on April 15th against Punjab.

Wonder how the team would look when we play against Rajasthan on April 20th. It will be a home game for CSK, but will be played in Pune. It will be a tricky if the pitch supports spin (which is very likely to be the case in Pune). Tahir did well against Punjab, but keeping him will mean Watson or Billings need to make way for Willey, who will be very useful on any wicket. CSK need a good seamer at the top to control the Powerplay and an overseas seamer at that. Personally I would drop Watson and have Willey open the innings. That way, Tahir can be retained.

Also I would drop Thakur and beef up the batting by adding an extra batsman. With Raina slated to return next game, he replaces Thakur and Vijay is also retained at the top. Willey and Chahar can handle the seamer duties with Bravo, and we have 3 specialist spinners (Jadeja, Bhajji and Tahir). Raina can also bowl his full quota of 4 overs. Therefore, CSK need to start strengthening their batting.

Not at all effective. Having Willey replace Watto will be the exactly same lineup. One pace bowling all rounder replacing another, and that too will weaken the batting, as Willey is a hit or miss.

We can have only 4 overseas player in the XI. Can't drop Billings and Bravo. Also with Pune expected to be a turning track and with Tahir having done well in the last game (he was the best of our bowlers), it makes sense to play him. Which will mean Watson is replaced by Willey. And also if you saw it fully, I have posted about strengthening the batting by removing one of the Indian seamers (Thakur) and retain Vijay in his place, while bringing Raina back into the XI. That will actually strengthen the batting a lot and it will add a more stronger hitting overseas batsman at the top in Willey, who is left handed (gives variety and makes it tough for bowlers to shuffle lines) and a more younger leg on the field. Willey might be hit or miss, by Watson has been similar too so far in the 3 games.

CSK need to focus on giving their spinners more overs. They have not done that in recent games (even in that home game at Chepauk, where KKR scored 200+). Unfortunately for CSK, they havent encountered a good spinning track yet. Hope Pune gives them that.

Looks like Dhoni might play as a pure batsman tomorrow, to avoid working his back too much. Which means Sam Billings will be the best bet to take up wicketkeeping duties. I would actually say that Dhoni can rest a game and let Raina or Rayudu captain the side. Some people suggested Rayudu to take keeping gloves, but he is a make shift and Sam Billings is a wicketkeeper batsman and he should take up the keeping gloves.

CSK likely to release Rayudu, Jadhav, Karn, Shardul, Vijay back into auction
https://cricketaddictor.com/cricket...elease-ambati-rayudu-kedar-jadhav-co-reports/

Not sure how reliable this report is, but this would be a massive step for CSK to do this. Jadhav at 7.2 crores is a waste of money. He can be bought back at 2-3 crores now. Same with Karn Sharma, who just cant justify the 5 crores price. If CSK is really going for Tom Banton, then I would hope that they release either of Billings or Willey also. And also release the likes of Kuggeleijn.

CSK need a strong leader who can possibly lead the franchise post Dhoni era (likely in 2021). A year of playing with Dhoni should help that guy to get a feel of things before he takes over. Raina is definitely not a leader in any way.

I'm pretty interested in seeing how our squad copes up with the absentees and also after the spread of COVID amidst the bubble. Hopefully they can rally around and create the classic CSK fighting spirit!
