With the Ashes starting in about two and a half weeks, thought it was about time for this thread to be made.

England much stronger test side at home,if it was in Australia I would say 3 or 4 nil because we're shite away from home. But being at home and just winning the world cup it's going to give us a good lift.
And if we bring Roy in as opener I hope he will nullify Starc, because in the one day game he definitely has Starcs number.
Great series England to win 2-1

Assuming that there are no injuries, this would be my Aussie lineup for the first game:

1. :bat: M. Harris/J. Burns (if Burns has recovered completely from his illness and shows signs of form)
2. :bat: D. Warner
3. :bat: U. Khawaja
4. :bat: S. Smith
5. :ar: T. Head
6. :bat: K. Patterson
7. :wk: T. Paine:c:
8. :ar: P. Cummins
9. :bwl: M. Starc
10.:bwl: N. Lyon
11.:bwl: J. Hazlewood

  • The sandpaper duo will walk straight back into the side. They were the best batsmen in this side and haven’t shown any signs of decline in other formats for now.
  • Burns is my first choice for the other opener role, Harris looked good versus India but Burns for me has a higher ceiling and hasn’t been backed properly till date.
  • Head versus Labuschagne is another contentious decision, but I’ve sided with Head because he was one of the best test batsmen during the last year for Australia and shown genuine skill in the games I’ve seen him play versus India. Labuschagne has piled on the runs in county cricket, but this is in Division 2 to be fair. Patterson is also a better option at 6 rather than 5 and this makes my decision easier.
  • While players like Jhye, Siddle or Pattinson might get into the side due to the different skills they offer further into the series, I realise that it’s pretty unlikely that the first choice bowling lineup will be disrupted in the first game.
  • England’s lineup is far more difficult to predict, I’ll try to take a stab at it a few days later if possible. :p

i don't want to see Siddle wear a baggy green again, time to move on in my opinion. I can't look past that joke of a summer he had last year in white ball cricket.

So looking forward to this series.

Off the back of the World Cup and beating the Aussies in the semi-final I think we’re in for a cracker.

Glad that Smith and Warner are back, that ban was far too long for something that lots of Test cricketers have done (remember Atherton and the dirt in his pocket).

I honestly like the Australian team until they open their mouths and so chuffed we shut Michael Clarke up on the commentary today!!!! Who knew Australians liked NZ so much?

I quite like Steve Smith tbh, seems like a decent bloke really. Most of the Ozzies are Ok, I detest David Warner though. He’s an absolute arsehole.

Only reason why I would want him in the squad is because of his stellar record in England with the Duke’s ball.

I guess Smith will take over the captaincy from Paine. For me, it feels good to see Smith again in the Captain shoes.

According to the rules laid down by Cricket Australia Smith won't be allowed to takeover the Captaincy until 2021. I think Tim Paine is a better Test Captain as well when compared to Smith.
