I would stay as far away as possible from a Krunal Pandya. Our batting is very very fragile. I feel we need to see how fit Dhawan keeps and somehow have Rahul open in a substantial number of games to keep him ready in case he retires. I personally don't see Dhawan in 2023. Kohli 3 EOD, Iyer should be at 4 and given a really long rope. 40-50 LOI? Pant 5, Pandya 6, Jadeja 7 followed by the bowlers. The effort should be put in developing someone like BK or Kuldeep Yadav to have the capacity and make a 6 ball 20. Sunil Narine can do it, Liam Plunkett can do it and I feel both these guys are better batsmen than those I mentioned. Krunal Pandya is a horrible bowler who just bowls a flat trajectory begging not to be hit.

I am talking about Krunal being a batting allrounder who can chip in for a few overs of part time bowling when needed. That is what Jadhav does, right? And with Iyer cementing his place and with Pant and Hardik expected to be the bedrock of India's middle order, another batsmen is likely to get a chance only in case of an injury. Which is why I suggested Krunal as a backup option along with Vijay Shankar.

Also I feel you cant turn someone like Kuldeep into a "Narine-like" batsman overnight. I think Narine is batting the way he is because he has that batting switch in him already (I have not yet dug into his early domestic records, but I think he probably was a useful batsman in his early days). If you do not have that batting switch in you, I feel it is impossible to turn you into a useful batsman. I feel both Kuldeep and Chahal do not have that switch in them. Neither does Shami or Bumrah. Its weird that our bowlers have digressed in terms of 'being able to hold a bat' because in earlier generations, players like Srinath, Kumble, Harbhajan, Zaheer all used to be able to hold a bat and even tonk balls on their own.

I think Shami can bat a bit. He can prove to be as good as Zaheer Khan as a batsman if he is utilised properly. Shami have played quite a few cameos like scoring a half century at Nottingham in a Test match back in 2014, in 2014 Asia Cup against Sri Lanka, his match winning innings against South Africa at Johannesburg in a Test match in 2018 on the toughest of pitches.

Krunal has one problem being the batting all rounder. His brother. Our agenda should be Hardik as 6th bowler and Jadeja at 7. I would pick Vijay Shankar ahead of Krunal Pandya every day of the week.

On to the tail holding a bat? Kuldeep can definitely bat. He has it in him to make 20's and 30's.[DOUBLEPOST=1565984254][/DOUBLEPOST]Shastri retained! Shocking!

Warm up game is going pretty good. Ishant taking 2 wickets and Che scoring century. Rohit is making a case for himself. Would have loved to see Saha getting a chance to bat.

Rahane’s form is becoming a huge concern now. Needs to get that big score soon if he is to stay in the team.

Yep another make or break series for him. It sounds very weird to say that about the vice-captain of your team but that's how it looks like right now. He had a very ordinary county stint and has no form coming into this series. He has both Vihari and Rohit fighting for his spot in this squad right now. He needs a huge series to boost his confidence and also needs his captan's backing.

It will also be interesting to see who plays as the wicket-keeper.

I think we should move him on now. He is already ageing more than 35 and it's time we develop Rishabh Pant for the future. I am already looking towards Pant as a 3-format player for India.[DOUBLEPOST=1566217339][/DOUBLEPOST]

Which has been the same since November 2016!

Rohit Sharma's time in the white shirt had passed ages ago. The real bloke to try out is Gill. He is a very capable 3/4/5.

There were players who actually made their debut after 35 years of age so no one can actually say when is the time up for a player when you are considering a batsman for Test Cricket.

Not a big fan of Umesh Yadav in Test Cricket. I think Shami is the bowler who has to be your go to man. In a line-up where even Bhuvneshwar Kumar doesn't find a place Umesh Yadav is far off !

It's insane in a country with over a billion people we still have to stick with Pant in a Test as a WK. He has no good temperament for ODIs let alone Tests, he has no patience and I don't see any game awareness when not to go for that big shot. There's no doubt he's a good limited overs batsman who can go for the big shots from the word go but unless and until he tunes his game for the Tests I don't see him succeeding and I don't know why is it impossible to find a good wk batsman for Tests - we got thousands waiting for an opportunity.

He scored nearly 150 odd against Australia in Australia facing bowlers like Hazelwood, Cummins and Mitchell Starc alongwith Nathan Lyon. And would always improve with the number of chances he gets. I don't actually see a good keeper in the domestic arena yet. A WK batsman is always hard to find.

Did you notice that you have just posted two highly contradictory statements for two players (Wriddhiman Saha and Rohit Sharma)? :lol:p

For Saha, you say "he is aging 35 and so we need to move on from him". For Rohit Sharma, you say "players made debut after 35 yrs of age and so no one can actually say when is the time up for a player". :noway
