Test xi:
:bat: Alastair Cook
:bat: David Warner
:bat: Kane Williamson :c:
:bat: Steven Smith (Kohli was the highest no.4 scorer in 2010s but Smith had much better average)
:ar: Shakib Al Hasan (His average difference is the highest among players who have taken at least 50 wickets in 2010-19)
:wk: BJ Watling (The most underrated player of the decade)
:ar: Ben Stokes (The only reason Jadeja misses because of his bad overseas record)
:ar: Ravichandran Ashwin
:bwl: Vernon Philander (He is under-appreciated. Among the top 20 wicket taker in 2010-19, he has the best bowling average)
:bwl: Dale Steyn (Pace and an average of 22.29 from 2010-19)
:bwl: James Anderson (The best no.11 and highest wicket taker of the decade)

I know that 6 bowling options might feel like overkill but this team could win matches even on the flattest of tracks. In tough conditions as well, there won't be any chance for opposition to score runs or take wickets.
The batting depth ensure that the great top 4 could play with ease.

Quite a bit of interesting decisions in here. Considering that it encompasses a decade and that tests are played on a variety of pitches and conditions, here is what I would swap around should the need arise.

Would probably prefer Watling on more pace friendly pitches as the keeper. Stokes as the all-rounder in pace friendly conditions is another obvious choice. If there is no need for the all-rounder and the extra batsman helps, Williamson would be my choice in SENA (with him moving to three and everyone else dropping down) and Younis Khan in Asia (at five). Alternatively, if AbD is willing to keep (he was a very fine keeper and also batted well with the gloves), either one of those batsmen get in easily. Cook is unlucky to miss out but his very steep decline towards the end made me look beyond him and choose Latham who has quietly been very impressive over the last few years.

Herath is one who could get in if there is the need for a third spinner. As for pacers, the cupboard is a bit barren. The likes of Bumrah and Abbas haven’t played enough games while someone like Cummins has incredibly played just 25 tests despite debuting way back in 2011. Hazlewood would be my first choice for a four man pace attack, given that he bowl mostly on Aussie roads and still manages to have a very respectable economy rate. Philander is another very impressive bowler but he doesn’t tend to bowl a lot in unhelpful conditions and has a very questionable fitness history. Boult is the obvious choice if there is plenty of swing on offer (in the absence of Philander that is) while Morkel and Wagner offer the awkward short length that batsmen struggle to often play.

The captain choice will be pretty controversial, but by the numbers Kohli has done a very good job and in my opinion, has galvanised his team into an outfit that doesn’t tend to give up or settle for draws, preferring to fight in every session instead. Counter-intuitive at times, but it is a very welcome change in a side that has very often in the past relied on draws frequently.

ODI xi:
:bat: Hashim Amla (Both Amla and Rohit are the highest run scorers for openers in 2010-19, with both averaging above 50. Very clear choices.)
:bat: Rohit Sharma
:bat: Virat Kohli (Do I have to even explain this? Kohli has scored 9410 runs at no.3 in the decade. The second best is Sangakkara with 5871 runs. Ridiculous stats here.)
:bat: Ross Taylor (His S/R plays against him but as expected, he is the highest no.4 run scorer of the decade (6214 runs) followed by de Villiers (4123). I will still pick him.)
:wkb: AB de Villiers (After seeing his stats as no.5 batsman, I had to put him as the keeper. Sorry Sanga!)
:ar: Shakib Al Hasan (S/R is an issue but he is obviously the best all-rounder of the decade. Stokes's bowling is not good enough to replace Shakib. He can also bat at no.3 as we saw in the world cup)
:ar: Corey Anderson (Average of 25 with bowl earns him this place. Since Shakib is defensive bowler, I went with aggression to balance both the aspects.)
:bwl: Imran Tahir/Morne Morkel/Mitchell Johnson (depending on pitch)
:bwl: Mitchell Starc
:bwl: Saeed Ajmal
:bwl: Jasprit Bumrah
