Looks fine but seam bowling is an issue here. If Siraj or Saini has a bad day, we will be chasing more than 180. I would have Christian play in the place of Sams (try both of them at 7 and promote Sundar up the order.)

What about Sams and Jamieson though? Jamieson the second most expensive player this year, and Sams is a BBL Golden Boot holder and would have contended this year too had he not been injured. Although, Christian is a better death bowler than either...

It is not necessary that one who plays well in BBL gets the same amount of success in IPL too. Mostly due to playing conditions..

No doubt (see: D'Arcy Short) but there's enough in that XI to restrict teams even if one of their bowlers has a bad day.

To be fair, they picked up Marco Jensen as well who has a T20 experience of a whopping 4 matches

Marco Jansen is the type of generational talent who could be one of the greatest seamers in South Africa if he lives up to his potential (rumoured attitude problems aside) and has already been called up once to his national team. Arjun Tendulkar could turn out to be a decent player indeed but I really don't see anything special that he has accomplished so far to deserve a place at this level other than his name.

Didn't know that. Thanks

I wouldn't be surprised if they scouted him earlier (via Pollock maybe?) and see him as a long-term prospect. Extremely young and raw overseas pacers like him traditionally never manage to attract bids. And given that his competition is NCN and Milne, I wouldn't be surprised if he manages to play games. He's extremely tall (over 2 metres if I'm right), bowls left-arm and is fairly quick. Can also be a very handy player with the bat. Eerily similar to a certain established NZer that Bangalore shelled the big bucks for.

Also noticed that Gerald Coetzee went unsold too. He's the quicker version of Jansen and has scary potential, I'd say even more so than Jansen. If only these blokes were Australian and had Shane Warne marketing them irrespective of whether they featured in a game or not...

You my friend really need to watch RCB 'defend' totals at the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Huh. I would expect better from a bowling lineup with Siraj, Saini, Sams, Jamieson and Christian. Although they did only just sign the last 3...

Rabada, Ngidi, Sipamla, Jansen, Coetzee, Morris... that is early 2000s levels! If they get their batting sorted they could become an international powerhouse again like they did at my expense in cricket captain

Now that the frustration has subsided, I can be more objective.

The usual suspects did really well in the auction bar one error from a great franchise and to be very honest I thought Punjab, Delhi and Rajasthan have all covered the holes in the ship. At least, the homework done is correct and I know one franchise led by its bombastic captain will complain about Punjab's purse but they managed to get their side sorted in the same purse as RR and RCB.

We will see, but I can visualise immense issues at 5,6,7 for a certain franchise unless an uncapped player becomes a star.

I think this auction belonged hands down to KKR. Shakib, Jackson, Karun Nair, Ben Cutting, Harbhajan Singh are all absolute bargains in capitals. That Karun Nair selection (specially on that Eden track) will enable KKR to bat Rana and Gill at the top with Nair at 3. I think they have a back up of repute for every position and with all these bubbles and covid fatigue, they will have to play quite hopelessly to not qualify. After that, it's really anyone's game.

MI did the business. They got Milne who is a brilliant talent for the former price of NCL while retaining his services. Just smart, calculated stuff and it's disgusting that Zak is not part of our national set up. He is just so ready to be the lead man in the management position. Marco Jansen is an outstanding punt and notice I call it a punt and not a pick. I don't see him playing but they can monitor his development and see if he's a long term option and he's the sort of guy you just throw into a play off game where no one has seen or prepared for him. The whole shaming of Tendulkar because of his surname is shamelessness which has become routine for our country. I'd say one is quite naive if they think Arjun would have a bidding war or he would never have had a crack at the big time. Let's wait for him to fail before judging him. It's not his fault he's got that surname and I feel for the kid. Would any of us deny such a chance if we were offered it for any reason in the world? An idealistic world doesn't exist. If he's useless he will be out in no time because the competition is banana's in this country.

CSK really needed to get a back up foreign batter. I can see Moeen floating a bit like Curran last year if Faf fails but they could have just added a Billings who they have had before and just given themselves another option. But a good auction otherwise and really, their success will depend on MSD and Raina. They could have bought the first 3 players they liked in this auction and they would have gone nowhere if MS and Raina fail. They both have got to fire early and if that happens, that Dhoni chap is like the pied piper of Hamlin and the others will just follow. I also think the England players most loathe the bubble so they don't want Moeen Ali to leave mid way and then have to play Faf.

SRH were just SRH. Clinical.

DC have improved a lot since the last mega auction and did everything they had to. Once they added Umesh and Steve Smith for that amount, they were in the box seat. Poor from franchises like Punjab to not drive the pricing up. It's a big reason the big bucks were given out to the fast bowlers. Sometimes, you just need to bid for someone hoping you don't end up with them.

RR had a very good auction. They generally tend to crowd around 2-3 skills and leave vacuums but this time they've done a solid job. Fizz was their Best Buy and their much wanted bowling now renders Archer the support he should have always had. I really hope they open with Buttler and Vohra and not waste domestic talent by playing musical chairs with their foreigners as openers.

PK have such a fantastic core India base along with Pooran and Jordan that releasing some ridiculous buys from 2020 allowed them to basically buy who they like. Malan was a superb pick and now they have options on Gayle who is a ticking bomb.

No comment on the rest of the teams.

I hope this IPL doesn't turn out to be another rehabilitation center for RCB again. Morris, Dubey, Moeen etc... are capable players, they haven't performed as per the expectations for us. But atleast not spoil the morale of the management by outperforming while in other franchise. :p

Okay so I was having a think about the proposal to include two new franchises for 2022, and how I might go about building a squad if I were in charge of such a team. I guess the first step is to look at which players are likely to be unavailable to me - the five players that each franchise will be allowed to retain:

Franchise12345
Chennai Super Kings:ind: :wk: MS Dhoni:ind: :ar: Ravindra Jadeja:ind: :bat: Suresh Raina:ind: :bwl: Deepak Chahar:ind: :bat: Ruturaj Gaikwad
Delhi Capitals:ind: :wk: Rishabh Pant:ind: :bat: Shikhar Dhawan:saf: :bwl: Kagiso Rabada:ind: :bat: Shreyas Iyer:ind: :ar: Ravichandran Ashwin
Kolkata Knight Riders:ind: :bat: Shubman Gill:aus: :bwl: Pat Cummins:wi: :ar: Andre Russell:wi: :bwl: Sunil Narine:ind: :bwl: Kamlesh Nagarkoti
Mumbai Indians:ind: :bat: Rohit Sharma:ind: :bwl: Jasprit Bumrah:ind: :ar: Hardik Pandya:ind: :ar: Krunal Pandya:wi: :bat: Kieron Pollard
Punjab Kings:ind: :wkb: KL Rahul:ind: :bwl: Mohammed Shami:ind: :bat: Mayank Agarwal:wi: :wk: Nicholas Pooran:aus: :bwl: Jhye Richardson
Rajasthan Royals:ind: :wk: Sanju Samson:eng: :wk: Jos Buttler:eng: :ar: Ben Stokes:ind: :bat: Yashasvi Jaiswal:saf: :ar: Chris Morris
Royal Challengers Bangalore:ind: :bat: Virat Kohli:ind: :bwl: Yuzvendra Chahal:nzf: :bwl: Kyle Jamieson:ind: :ar: Washington Sundar:ind: :bwl: Mohammad Siraj
Sunrisers Hyderabad:aus: :bat: David Warner:nzf: :bat: Kane Williamson:afg: :bwl: Rashid Khan:afg: :bwl: Mujeeb ur Rahman:ind: :bwl: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Note: These are just the players I would personally choose to retain while trying to think like the franchise in question. I might be miles off

That does rather limit my options as a potential franchise owner, but regardless I do have some targets to go for:

Top-Order Batsmen
:ind: :bat: :local: Priyam Garg
:eng: :bat: :os: Alex Hales
:eng: :bat: :os: Dawid Malan
:ind: :bat: :local: Manish Pandey
:ind: :bat: :local: Nitish Rana
:ind: :bat: :local: Rinku Singh

Wicket-Keeper Batsmen
:eng: :wk: :os: Jonny Bairstow
:ind: :wk: :local: Srikar Bharat
:ind: :wk: :local: Punit Bisht
:ind: :wk: :local: Wriddhiman Saha

Batting All-Rounders
:aus: :ar: :os: Marnus Labuschagne
:ind: :ar: :local: Prerak Mankad
:ind: :ar: :local: Abdul Samad
:ind: :ar: :local: Vijay Shankar

Bowling All-Rounders
:wi: :ar: :os: Fabian Allen
:ind: :ar: :local: Akshar Patel
:ind: :ar: :local: Harshal Patel
:ind: :ar: :local: Rahul Tewatia

Fast Bowlers
:ind: :bwl: :local: Siddharth Kaul
:usa: :bwl: :os: Ali Khan
:ind: :bwl: :local: Dhawal Kulkarni
:ind: :bwl: :local: Thangarasu Natarajan
:saf: :bwl: :os: Anrich Nortje
:ind: :bwl: :local: Mohammad Siraj
:ind: :bwl: :local: Diwesh Pathania

Spin Bowlers
:ind: :bwl: :local: Shreyas Gopal
:ind: :bwl: :local: Dharmendrasinh Jadeja
:nep: :bwl: :os: Sandeep Lamichhane
:ind: :bwl: :local: Amit Mishra
:ind: :bwl: :local: Jalaj Saxena
:saf: :bwl: :os: Tabraiz Shamsi

So there's not a huge amount of star power in that team, but it'd be a competitive team with provisions for every role. My first XI out of that pile would be something like:

:eng: :bat: :os: Alex Hales
:eng: :wk: :os: Jonny Bairstow
:ind: :bat: :local: Nitish Rana
:ind: :bat: :local: Rinku Singh
:ind: :bat: :local: Priyam Garg
:ind: :ar: :local: Akshar Patel
:ind: :ar: :local: Harshal Patel
:saf: :bwl: :os: Anrich Nortje
:ind: :bwl: :local: Thangarasu Natarajan
:ind: :bwl: :local: Amit Mishra
:saf: :bwl: :os: Tabraiz Shamsi

There's a little bit of a balance problem - Shamsi probably makes way for Labuschagne if the batting needs reinforcement - but it'd be a serious proposition to play against I think.
