Now that the frustration has subsided, I can be more objective.
The usual suspects did really well in the auction bar one error from a great franchise and to be very honest I thought Punjab, Delhi and Rajasthan have all covered the holes in the ship. At least, the homework done is correct and I know one franchise led by its bombastic captain will complain about Punjab's purse but they managed to get their side sorted in the same purse as RR and RCB.
We will see, but I can visualise immense issues at 5,6,7 for a certain franchise unless an uncapped player becomes a star.
I think this auction belonged hands down to KKR. Shakib, Jackson, Karun Nair, Ben Cutting, Harbhajan Singh are all absolute bargains in capitals. That Karun Nair selection (specially on that Eden track) will enable KKR to bat Rana and Gill at the top with Nair at 3. I think they have a back up of repute for every position and with all these bubbles and covid fatigue, they will have to play quite hopelessly to not qualify. After that, it's really anyone's game.
MI did the business. They got Milne who is a brilliant talent for the former price of NCL while retaining his services. Just smart, calculated stuff and it's disgusting that Zak is not part of our national set up. He is just so ready to be the lead man in the management position. Marco Jansen is an outstanding punt and notice I call it a punt and not a pick. I don't see him playing but they can monitor his development and see if he's a long term option and he's the sort of guy you just throw into a play off game where no one has seen or prepared for him. The whole shaming of Tendulkar because of his surname is shamelessness which has become routine for our country. I'd say one is quite naive if they think Arjun would have a bidding war or he would never have had a crack at the big time. Let's wait for him to fail before judging him. It's not his fault he's got that surname and I feel for the kid. Would any of us deny such a chance if we were offered it for any reason in the world? An idealistic world doesn't exist. If he's useless he will be out in no time because the competition is banana's in this country.
CSK really needed to get a back up foreign batter. I can see Moeen floating a bit like Curran last year if Faf fails but they could have just added a Billings who they have had before and just given themselves another option. But a good auction otherwise and really, their success will depend on MSD and Raina. They could have bought the first 3 players they liked in this auction and they would have gone nowhere if MS and Raina fail. They both have got to fire early and if that happens, that Dhoni chap is like the pied piper of Hamlin and the others will just follow. I also think the England players most loathe the bubble so they don't want Moeen Ali to leave mid way and then have to play Faf.
SRH were just SRH. Clinical.
DC have improved a lot since the last mega auction and did everything they had to. Once they added Umesh and Steve Smith for that amount, they were in the box seat. Poor from franchises like Punjab to not drive the pricing up. It's a big reason the big bucks were given out to the fast bowlers. Sometimes, you just need to bid for someone hoping you don't end up with them.
RR had a very good auction. They generally tend to crowd around 2-3 skills and leave vacuums but this time they've done a solid job. Fizz was their Best Buy and their much wanted bowling now renders Archer the support he should have always had. I really hope they open with Buttler and Vohra and not waste domestic talent by playing musical chairs with their foreigners as openers.
PK have such a fantastic core India base along with Pooran and Jordan that releasing some ridiculous buys from 2020 allowed them to basically buy who they like. Malan was a superb pick and now they have options on Gayle who is a ticking bomb.
No comment on the rest of the teams.
