I would pick Chahar over Shami! We saw yesterday - if it swings even a tiny bit, he will cause mayhem. And he adds weight to the lower batting order. And Chahar is a Power Play specialist, which means if Bhuvi is also picked, they can let Bhuvi completely focus only on death bowling (which has been his strong point, until recently where he has been floundering there due to form issues).

Bhuvi the death bowler has been missing his mark more and more in recent years. This isn’t just a knee jerk reaction from recent form though as since he’s lost that extra yard of pace he had years ago he’s been forced to utilise his accuracy and variations even more. He hasn’t utilised his variations recently either and while he could always go back to bowling accurate yorkers or sort out his issues with bowling the same lines irrespective of being hit (this I doubt as this is classic Bhuvi when he’s being hit but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt) he’ll still be lined up by any big hitter at the death.

Australian surfaces aren’t going to aid swing that much either, the type of pitch we saw yesterday is the exception. I’d say they’ve been slightly slower this time around so far. I actually believe Chahar is underrated and typecast as a purely swing bowler who needs a good surface to thrive when he’s a good T20 bowler in his own right and has often extracted swing from even the flattest of pitches. None of that helps the fact that he is unfortunately too similar to Bhuvi in playing style and does not have the pace to harry a batter if needed.

And the last point is the most important thing we’ve lost with Bumrah. He was our quickest pacer by far and now we’ve got no frontline quick even capable of remotely touching 140 kph let alone go above it. Our quickest pacer now is Pandya and I wonder how risky it would be to ask him to be our enforcer for four overs with his injury record. Shami is the next best bet for quality pace but he’ll be coming off a lack of match practice, form and covid to boot. Honestly, it seems like our bowling attack is toast at the moment. Seems strange to be so pessimistic given that we just had a top side restricted to 9/5 but the potential for us to concede 200+ is quite high now in a crucial game.
