Bumrah, Bhuvi, Arshdeep and Harshal Patel surely were always going to be there. And no one has done badly either tbh. So that is why I asked even if most of us wanted Bishnoi and Shami in the squad, for whom would they be swapped?

The squad is as it was supposed to be. What else were we expecting?
Bishnoi for Chahal would have been better imo. At this point, I would even take Abhishek Sharma over Pant, if the team needs a left-hander.

Exactly bro, Sachin went on to play for a good few years after, based on batting alone DK supposed to be picked. Nothing to compete with Dhoni. Sachin blocked him and many of the younger guys.
Ganguly and Dravid were let go. Tendulkar remained because he kept scoring untill 2011 CWC. This is not a justification post. But fact is fact.

Don't pay heed to his comment. This Chinnamasta dude bait posts so much, I can't even tell when he is being serious.

Yes, by 2011 his form was ok, 2012 and 2013 years he averaged almost 30 runs per test inns, didnt score a 100 in that time either. Amongst DK other guys wouldve been playing better and deserved a slot in the team ahead of Sachin, whom shouldve been retired already!

I am not sure if to report this post for backseat moderating/trolling or take it as a complement……gonna go with the latter.

“aw nah man, Tendulkar who was our second highest run scorer at that point should have walked away from the side in 2004 and avoided all that time in 2008-11 when he was one of the if not the best batsman in the world averaging close to 60 at the appearance of mighty DK who would have averaged 80 if only he was given chances”. I mean DK’s my local boy and even I doubt I could simp this much for him against a giant like Tendulkar.

As for the complaints against this squad, are people really surprised that we’ve not made any crazy decisions? It was pretty much foretold that our Asia Cup squad would likely be the one for the WC a month ago and the only change appears to be Arshdeep leapfrogging Avesh on the basis of his injury and Arshdeep’s 20th over actions. We’ve selected a squad that has a chance of winning and has been selected from a root in consistent squad selection and I don’t think I could ask for anything more at this point. Was anyone expecting us to randomly pick Shaw off from the domestics because of Rahul’s relatively indifferent form?

If it had been up to me I would have traded in Bishnoi for Chahal and replaced Pant with someone else. Shreyas has no business in the standbys too in an Aussie WC (although pitches there aren’t as quick paced as they once were at the moment) when a Samson is sitting out. It feels weird to have Shami in the standbys after he hasn’t played any T20I in ages. Harshal and Arshdeep don’t inspire me with confidence either but I think it’s too early to pass judgement on them.

However I can see the rationale behind all of these decisions with Chahal continuing to be the best wrist spinner in the IPL and having good games too internationally alongside his poor ones, Pant is the kind of generational talent you back who’s had arguably the greatest IPL season for a batsman once upon a time, Shreyas being one of the highest run-scorers when everyone was resting, Shami having a good IPL and being a valuable experienced bowler who doesn’t need to be bedded in or will suffer from inexperience should there be a need urgently for a pacer (I still think Chahar will be going in before him anyways).

At the end you can only select 15 players in a squad and there will always be someone missing out and someone you might argue doesn’t deserve to be in the team. Can’t imagine the sort of discussions that the Aussies of the 90s and 2000s would generate if they played today given their own depth if they failed to win a trophy (which they were rather good at unlike this Indian side sadly). :D

but whichever way you select your XI, you are bound to create an imbalance in the team!

Rohit Sharma (c)
KL Rahul
Virat Kohli
Suryakumar Yadav
Hardik Pandya
Dinesh Karthik (wk)
Axar Patel/Ravi Ashwin
Harshal Patel
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar
Jasprit Bumrah
Arshdeep Singh/Yuzvendra Chahal

I think this is surely a balanced XI? With Jadeja not there, Axar Patel should play most matches as an AR because of his improved batting. One of Ashwin and Chahal can play if the conditions are such.

The Indian team lacks the balance. The squad not really, but whichever way you select your XI, you are bound to create an imbalance in the team!

I am pretty much happy with India's squad. The form and role both suits most players at this point.

We have 7 batters (includes 3 keepers), 2 all rounders, 4 seamers and 2 spinners. I don't feel you need more than this in Australia.

Although the only disappointment is not finding Ishan Kishan in the squad who can clearly be in a multi-dimensional role (a middle order batter, back-up Keeper & back-up Opener). Not having him also means we are without a backup opener.

I would also claim that Shami shouldv'e made it ahead of Arshdeep who is still very young and is learning with experience. On the other hand, Shami is a seasoned bowler with experience!

If there is one guy who was the unluckiest is Rahul Tripathi whose name never even appeared when we discussed about this tournament despite having such a great IPL season where he looked like clearing any boundary in the world. Such clean hitting he offered for his team.

Axar Patel actually looks like a better option than Jadeja off late so his injury might just be a blessing in disguise for India.

The Playing XI should go as:-

:bat: Rohit Sharma :c:
:bat: KL Rahul v/:c:
:bat: Virat Kohli
:bat: SKY
:ar: Hardik Pandya
:wkb: Dinesh Karthik
:ar: Axar Patel
:bwl: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
:bwl: Harshal Patel
:bwl: Jasprit Bumrah
:bwl: Yuzvendra Chahal
