To end what has been a long, hard fought season for both sides, will be a match to decide which team goes home with the Bronze medal, and which one will have to settle for just not being good enough. Beijing might feel no need for a playoff given the fact they finished above Chennai in the League table, but the fact that both these sides were defeated 2-0 in the semi-final clashes means there is probably not a lot that separates them.

Beijing started the season so brightly, and even at one point threatened to take the top spot on the table away from Man D. But that's when the gaping flaws in their side were exposed and their luck ran out. A long losing streak followed, but by picking up a win here and there and thanks to their superb start, Beijing were able to make it to the Semis place second in the table. But they weren't able to re-discover their winning form in the semis, as Vatican scraped home in the first leg and demolished them in the second. Still, making it this far is a huge accomplishment for a side that placed last in PCPL 2, and they will be as hungry as ever to win this and show their doubters that it wasn't just sheer luck that got them this far.

Chennai have had a very quiet season in comparison. The big-spending side for the past two seasons were on a tight budget for this season as owner Pal went through a mini financial crises. This was reflected in the lack of press and hype the side built in comparison to previous seasons. Nevertheless, they were not a side to be written off, and after a poor start they put on an impressive winning streak, ending Man D's streak in the process, and putting themselves ahead of Dublin and Toronto for most of the season. It still came down to the last game for them, but a last-ball win over Vatican and a loss for Dublin meant they were in the semis...against Man D. Possibly unlucky to be drawn against the most formidable side of the 4, Chennai didn't try hard enough and several selection errors saw them wiped away 2-0. But they should be looking to bounce back, and to show that you don't need cash to be considered 'Champions'.

The play-offs consist of just a home and away leg, with the team with better NRR given third place incase of the results be 1-1. I'm flipping the coind, BB heads and CC tails...and it's tails. Geez, all four coin tosses tails. That's weird. Anyhow, CC win the toss and will play at home first.

Chennai Champions vs. Beijing Blitzers

3rd/4th Playoff - 1st Leg

And here were are folks, for the opening contest of the final stages of PCPL 3!! This contest brings together our two losing semi-finalists in a 2-game series to decide which team finished 2nd Runner Ups, and which one goes home with no title. It classic cricketing tradition, we kick off these matches on Boxing Day! And what better way to celebrate than to see two sides slug it out with pride and a few million vCash on the line. Chennai, learning from their mistakes, have set a dusty looking pitch and have loaded their sides with 4 spinners, while Beijing have opted revert back to the lineup that got them 7 wins in 8 games. Tough luck for Manee who scored a 50 and bowled well in his few games, but that's the way the world works I guess. Chennai have won the toss and opted to bat first, and we head to the action...

The final scorecard for first innings was :
Score: 169
Wickets : 3
Overs : 20.0

Boy, that was a fun innings wasn't it? The first 3 overs had it all. Runs and wickets, big hits and close calls, good fielding and bad. Unfortunately for Beijing, it became rather one sided from there on, as Cricketman and Karachi Xpress took control of the innings. Runs came easily as GG and NP10 looked rusty and didn't have the same control over the flow of runs as they did in the early stages. The spinners bowl very well, but they lacked support, and Shantanu's first and last overs (20 runs and 17 runs respectively) didn't help their cause one bit. Chennai have racked up an excellent target, and with 4 spinners in their side, will be backing themselves to pick up the win while Beijing, well, they've really sizzled out and have nothing much but pride on the line here. Will that be enough? Stay tuned as we find out!

Good we need to win this.
169 is not at all a big total IMO.
But the problem is dusty pitch, which is totally unpredictable.
Mates, think of KKR VS DC at Kolkata (in 1st IPL) See the way David Hussey blasted at last and sealed KKR a win.
We need to do the same here:)

Yeah 169 on dusty pitch is chase-able one good partnership and we have the game. Our bowling has been really poor this season. :facepalm
