AFCON Africa Cup of Nations (simply known as the Africa Cup of Nations) is the top-tier African cricket championship played in the 50-over format.
The tournament has been organized by the African Confederation of Nations between full-member African nations every two years since 2002.

Much like its football counterpart, the tournament is typically held early in the year owing to the scorching hot African climate in the summer.

SAHARA SHIELD

The AFCON Sahara Shield (simply and commonly known as the Sahara Shield) is the top-tier African Championship of Test cricket.
The tournament is organized by the African Confederation of Nations between full-member African nations every year.

The Sahara Shield - unmistakably named after the Sahara desert - is a shield awarded to the best Test nation in Africa.
It is played in a straight knockout format to accommodate itself in an otherwise packed international calendar.

Upgrades

Upgrades can be awarded in various types of tournaments by the structures below; approved by WoC Confederation Presidents:
Please note, each confederation is allowed exactly ONE tournament in a single FTP season:

* All continental confederations have a reserved window dedicated to them in the FTP calendar for their flagship event.

3 team tournaments

3 teams = 3-7 matches
2 upgrades for :goldo: winners, 1 for :slvo: runners-up

4 to 8 team tournaments

4/8 teams = 8-17 matches
3 upgrades for :goldo: winners, 2 for :slvo: runners-up, :bro: 1 for finishing third/being a semifinalist

9 to 12 team tournaments

9/12 teams = 8-17 matches
3 upgrades for :goldo: winners, 2 for :slvo: runners-up, :bro: 1 for finishing third/being a semifinalist

9/12 teams = 18+ matches
5 upgrades for :goldo: winners, 3 for :slvo: runners-up, :bro: 1 for finishing third/being a semifinalist

13+ team tournaments

13+ teams = 18+ matches
5 upgrades for :goldo: winners, 3 for :slvo: runners-up, :bro: 1 for finishing third/being a semifinalist

* DOUBLE ROUND-ROBIN format to only be used by a 3-team tournament
@RUDI @MrDependable, this was updated recently after we got the go-ahead to run a three-team event after Algeria pulled out right before the tournament began.

Africa Cup of Nations '02

:goldo: South Africa got 2 upgrades for winning
:slvo: Morocco got 1 upgrade for finishing second
:bro: Namibia didn't get an upgrade for finishing last in a three-team tournament

Apologies for not making the rules clear at the start of the tournament, but I had a forced hand tbh.

And also, since we can only do one AFCON event a year, I propose we alternate between Africa Cup of Nations and Sahara Shield?

South Africa have hosted AFCON, and Morocco are hosting the Knockout Trophy. @MrDependable, would you be keen on hosting the Sahara Shield next season in Namibia?

I'd love to!
