Afghanistan score upset in second ODI

As the two South Asian neighbours began their second matchup of the tour, it seemed like Afghanistan's top order would once again put up a display that would not be out of place in a Test match. However, the second ODI was to prove different. Specifically, one man was to prove different. The skipper Asghar Afghan, batting at 3, notched up a relatively fluent century, on a pitch that certainly had something in it for the spinners. As his batting partners scored increasingly slower, he kept the scoreboard ticking, and took his team to a defendable total, aided by another good innings by the talented Rahmat Shah, and the Pakistani bowlers' generosity in giving away extras. Shahid Younus, Hasan Ali and Naman Hussain were economical, with the latter two picking up 1 and 2 wickets respectively. In response, Pakistan's openers laid down a great platform, notching up fifties, even if their strike rate was on the lower side. Nonetheless, it seemed enough for their strong middle order to chase down the total, and as captain Asad Raza and Talha Hayat played at run a ball, scoring 70 runs combined, it looked like Pakistan would cruise to a series win. It was not to be, however. In typical Pakistani fashion, the middle order folded like a house of cards, with Rashid Khan being the catalyst. He first had Raza caught behind with a quick legbreak, and in the next over ran out Ahmed Leo. The Afghanis tied down Murtaza Ali, who was unable to score at the required rate, increasing the pressure on Hayat, who got out to Mujeeb ur Rehman. Naveen-ul-Haq and Qais Ahmed effectively contained Ali and Imad Wasim to deliver the win. The best performer with the ball, however, was Mohammad Nabi, who broke the opening partnership, and bowled economically in the middle overs, conceding just 28 runs in his 10 overs.

Mani bars Pakistani team and coaches from speaking to the media

Amid the very public infighting in the Pakistani camp, PCB chairman Ehsan Mani has imposed a blanket ban on members of the playing or coaching staff from speaking to the media, including in pre- and post-match press conferences. In their stead, the PCB media department will release statements on behalf of the leadership group. Mani is understood to be incredibly frustrated by the scism in the dressing room, and has convened a meeting between him, CEO Wasim Khan, head coach Misbah-ul-Haq, captain Asad Raza, and vice-captain Umair Nazim, to sort out the problems between head coach, captain and vice-captain, involving different factions of players, which will take place right after the Afghanistan tour is concluded.
