Has anyone ever been hit by the ball when going to see a live cricket match?

Nah ive took a catch at one before but been hit in plenty of games i play in i get a buzz out of being hit for some reason.

The guy a few peoples away last season at Lancashire had his pint splattered all over him, he was Maaadddd.

And, in games, been hit everywhere imaginable, worst place, apart from the obvious for guys, shins, it wrecks when your in training and dont wear pads (Or forget them )

Well, if we're talking on a major scale, or about me personally, no - I've only ever been to Headingley on the major grounds front and it was a wet and cold day, so very few sixes were hit. I'll be going to Trent Bridge next month to watch the test match vs India, but unless Kevin Pietersen gets in, I don't see many issues.

Watching a game at Norfolk a couple of seasons ago, the ball just missed my head as I ducked and hit the bonnet of the car behind me though. That's the closest I've been to being hit - luckily, I can catch!

its a story that while i was born my sis and my dad were at a club game. and i heard she got hit by the ball and thats why i love cricket so much..
Something like that :p

It's amazing how many times a cricket ball gets hit into a crowd who couldn't catch to save their lives (though it would help in case it is heading towards their head) yet very very rarely does anyone get hurt

I reckon it'd be pretty shameful if a lot of people did get hit, as when the ball is hit that far, it spends several seconds in flight and as a spectator, you should be paying attention, even if you can't catch.

I very nearly got hit a few years back at Canterbury (I think it was when New Zealand were playing a tour match). My brother had just arrived (mid-game) and he asked me something about fixtures, I had my fixture list in my wallet and was getting it out of my pocket when the ball flew past where my head would have been had I not been looking down. I suppose I would have caught it (or at least dropped it) had I not been getting my wallet out.

Yes I should have been paying attention, but I rekon nobody sits there from 10:30am thru till 6:30pm without taking their eye off the ball a few times.

I mean, in all seriousness, if you catch a cricket ball on the head at that speed, it could be....bad!

I know but no broken hands (as far as I'm aware of) when attempting a catch, in such a crowded space, you have nowhere to go so even if you are 96 with arthritis, you have to attempt the catch but i haven't seen it slip through someone's hands and hit them in the head.

The nearest i have been to getting hit, is seeing a game between Notts vs Yorks at Scarborough CC, they had temporary stands up and a guy a couple of rows back was chanting Banker (replace the B with a W), Banker give us a wave to Jason Gillespie, and then he nearly got hit...it was hilarious...heres a video of some australian one handed catch while on mobile phone lol...off Adam Gilchrist

My dad sitting next to me got hit on the back by Andrew Hall as he got up to go to the toilet. Absolutely massive bruise. To rub insult into the wound, I was nearly crying with laughter once i reliased he was OK

I man stood next to me at England Last year the ball got stuck into his head and was pooring with blood, ive caught it like 3million times at Yorkshire

I think one part of it is that there are lots of able bodied younger people out in those areas closest to the play; an older person is probably more likely to sit in a sheltered area.

Another part is that you might not necessarily be forced to catch it if you don't want to, because of the concentration of those able bodies. If you remain seated, the ball heading straight for you may well be plucked by the agile spectator in front of you, who stood up, or the spectator behind, who was also able to leave his seat.

Injuries happen, but they are rare because the nature of spectating tends away from them.
