I don't see why finger spinners can't turn the ball? I mean, my offbreaks turn a hell load more than when I bowl legspin. That isn't an excuse.
Now why does England want a spinner? Reduce workload, or a strike force? If you want one to be a partnership breaker, get in 15-20 overs in a day, then best have a spinner who can rip the ball, accurate or not. If you want a true striking force, Panesar, 25+ overs in an innings, tight and attacking. You want one to reduce the workload, Giles, 15 overs a day, scores runs from number 8.

Giles is inaccurate and concedes a lot of runs. I've said it before and i'll say it again; You pick spinners to bowl spin, not to bat.

Admittedly, it is handy if a spinner can bat at 8, but a spinner shouldn't be judged on his batting.

It depends on the way England wants to use their spinner. I mean, what is the point of playing Panesar and giving him only 10 overs. He clearly won't do much in that short a space of time, and won't do much with the bat or in the field. It might be better for the team to play Giles instead, right?

We gave him 25 overs in this test; We use Monty a lot more than we used Giles.

This test is different from what the Ashes wil be. I mean, if you had Jones and Freddie instead of Plunkett and Collingwood/Pietersen, would England bowl him as much?

It would depend on the match situation; If it was a wearing pitch we would use Monty a lot. If the pitch is green then we would use our seamers more.

Instead of KP, you serious? Or Colly for that matter. Freddie will grab Bells place and Jones - Plunketts.

Giles has some good parts, but why select a bowler who only averages something like 55 in the last 2 seasons?

Giles weakens our bowling attack.

KP Vs Warney is going to be a fantastic battle once again as KP again showed his unique yet effective style of playing spin today against Danish Kaneria and Shahid Afridi

I don't see SiJo being fit for the Ashes - something is bound to happen. In which case is a three-seam attack strong enough? Depends on Panesar imo. Before this match I would have said yes but he hasn't looked nearly as dangerous as Afridi or Kaneria and it would perhaps put too much pressure on the fab 3.

Yeh, this game has been odd for Monty, he's not been bowling badly in terms of line and length but the ball just isn't turning for him, which is odd, who knows maybe it will tomorrow for him.

I don't see SiJo being fit either, just using it as a IF although I didn't state so.

Steadman did sort out Irani's knee though!

We have a big problem with that. Our top six have all been on great form atm, so where does Flintoff get in? Drop Jones and make Colly WK :laugh

Lack of rhythm, which can be solved by a break which may be resolved by the time of another spell of bowling or another match or series.

SiJo! What a name!

Call it gut instinct, but I think that 'SiJo' will play in the Ashes; with all our injury woes of late, something good regarding injuries has to happen, and maybe it will be Jones' knee.

It's strange, when Giles doesn't turn it, it's because he's rubbish, yet when Panesar doesn't turn it, the excuses come out.
