10. Chris Tremain
11. Nathan Lyon

I will go along with that 11. I can see the reasoning behind Siddle's selection. He can plug away on a docile wicket all day while our spinners work at the other end. Is Doggett's selection political.. being indigenous. (will prob be called a racist now) What has Jyhe Richardson done wrong? Some of these bizarre selections.. such as Aaron Finch sends a wrong message to a promising young cricketer imho.

The most bewildering selection is that of Aaron Finch. C'mon you nongs Finchy is a specialist white ball batsman. While I am pleased for Labu I question why a man with a stronger First Class average in Kurtis Patterson was omitted.
A bit odd to be honest, but he has been performing, so it's not so surprising. I feel like he plays spin pretty well so that might as well be why he's picked. He can attack the Pakistani bowlers and put pressure in them. Looks like he could play a role similar to Jos Buttler in England's test team. He plays an attacking game at #7, Finch could do that at a place higher than that at 6.

Aaron Finch's selection is a huge punch in the face for people who work their asses off in shield to even get noticed for selection.
That being said, i'll have the biggest smile on my face when his selection pays off.

Perhaps, this might be the first XI, according to me:
Matt Renshaw
Shaun Marsh
Usman Khawaja
Aaron Finch/Marnus Labuschagne
Travis Head/Michael Neser(Marsh will play at 5 if Neser is selected)
Mitchell Marsh
Tim Paine
Ashton Agar
Mitchell Starc
Nathan Lyon
Peter Siddle/Brendan Doggett

I have reservations about the top three being lefties. Hoping the selectors put a right hander in there.

If they are going down the "old man" trail why then hasnt George Bailey or Callum Ferguson been considered over Finch? Beggars belief!!!

Bailey and Ferguson are not good batsman of red ball cricket. Also they have aweful batting technique. Finch is much more suitable.

Cannot agree with that. I expect I have watched far more of the three of them in red ball cricket than have you.

Agree. But right now Australian team is looking for a hard-hitting opener. Finch is a good choice for overseas tour, until the return of Warner.

Conditions in UAE will be flat and spin oriented. Finch likes to destroy wrist spinners. Finch will attack Shadab Khan and Yasir Shah, that's the plan of Justin Langer.

I think this series will be last for Usman Khawaja, he need to score some runs. If he fail this overseas tour, Smith will replace him. Smith is a perfect candidate for no.3 spot.

My team prediction for 1st test.

Renshaw
Finch
Khawaja
S.Marsh
M Marsh
Head
Paine
Agar
Starc
Siddle
Lyon

Oh I hope you have this spot on about Finch. If his pinch hitting against the wristies pays off that will hit Pak morale hard.

Smith will walk strait back into the side even if Ussie fails or not.

Ussie could be the surprise packet. He has been working his bum off to improve his spin play. A century for Oz A tells me it has been time well spent.

I want Australian to win this series. The way Finch played Shadab in the Zimbabwe tri series, Finch will be key. If he play well, I think the selectors will chose Finch for the Ashes tour. His contribution for team Surrey is outstanding.

Ussie always have that insecurity factor against spinners. I think he need to attack more and play spinners with freedom.

Re Ussie take a look at footage from his England off season stint. He hit a sublime century on a turning track in a red ball game. That should prove to you, me and the selectors that he is now a much improved player of spin.

I just took a look at Team Surrey. Finch only played T20. So he has been selected on the basis of his returns from the 20 over format. Everyone knows that the decks for limited overs are flat belters. Pitches in the UAE definitely favor spin..ala the Sub Continent. Has Trevor Hohns and his panel made a major boo boo?
