I hope Langer does not walk back on his opinion of Stoinis as a better top order player than a middle order one and give him a chance yet again at six or seven as it is well known that Stoinis is clearly not good enough in the middle order. He reminds of a poor man's version of Dhoni with his struggle to rotate strike and a limited range of powerful shots to keep up the scoring rate. He did pick up four wickets though which is unusual.
Pleased to see Maxi among the runs, Australia clearly have no replacement for him even if he is not in form and so they should be doing their best to keep him fit and firing. On paper he has the tools to succeed at five but somehow played a very different role in the World Cup and was ultimately not good enough. His presence could allow for the slower Carey to flourish in an old school finisher role.
