And although Australia might seem like a big cricket wonderland there aren't really dozens of first class level venues. Some of the second tier grounds are really annoying.

Well for example the MCG is the only ground in Victoria that is First Class certified. Hence why the Shield Final last summer was played at Bellerive Oval in Hobart.

Does anyone know If the Matador Cup will be shown on free to air tv again? I've been looking on my digital tv guide, but can't see anything. Maybe it isn't scheduled yet though. :)

New squads are in. I'm pretty excited. This is going to be a high quality tournament of cricket. Apart from SA and the CA XI all the teams are real top quality. I've put together my best XIs from the updated squads.

NSW

Watson
Maddinson
Smith
Carters
Patterson
Nevill
Henriques
Abbott
Starc
Sandhu
Lyon

O'Keefe averages 66 in ODD. With the 4 bowlers and Henriques he would be a waste of a position.

Queensland

Hemphrey
Hartley
Burns
Forrest
Milenko
Reardon
Hopes
Cutting
Steketee
Feldman
Stanlake

Boyce averages 40 @ 5.25 which is not good enough. Neser doesn't make the team because they already have enough all-rounders. They're better off with a pure bowler or pure batsman. Where as Neser isn't good enough to get into the team just on his bowling or batting.

South Australia

Raphael
Ludeman
Cooper
Ferguson
Head
Ross
Andrews
Zampa
Richardson
Mennie
Putland

By far the worst of the states. Poor batting with little depth. Bowling is ok at best. Will finish 6th.

Tasmania

Doolan
Dunk
Bailey
Doran
Faulkner
Paine
Gulbis
Doherty
Rainbird
Bird
Fekete

Not 100% sure on the best mix for the team. Might have to change things up depending on conditions. If there's no spin i'd drop Doherty, bring in Michael and you've still got your 5 bowlers there. There's 4 bowlers and 2 all-rounders. I'd rather have just the one all rounder and have a pure batsman instead of Gulbis. But the only other option is Michael who isn't very good.

Victoria

Finch
White
Stoinis
Maxwell
Handscomb
Christian
Wade
Hastings
McKay
Siddle
Holland

Toss up between McKay and Pattinson. Pattinson was terrible in England where as McKay performed really well in county cricket. However thats no chance of actually happening because Pattinson is a player of national interest. Chose Christian over Quiney because Quiney has not been that great in recent years. Also I don't like the idea of trying to get 10 overs out of Maxwell and Stoinis.

Western Australia

Klinger
Bancroft
SMarsh
Voges
MMarsh
Turner
Whiteman
Coulter-Nile
Agar
Behrendorff
Paris

They've made a big mistake by getting rid of 3 batmen when they have an excess of bowlers in the squad. Bancroft doesn't deserve his place in the team let alone the squad. Piss poor ODD stats. Averages 19 striking @ 59. Wells, Beaton and Harris all have better proven records than him. Handy bowling line-up though.

CA XI

Pierson
Harris
Bosisto
Short
Gotch
Cartwright
Gregory
Wildermuth
Ayre
Hatcher
Dixon

CA have made a big mistake by not having an older experienced guy in the team. If they had a bloke like McDonald, Cosgrove or Rohrer in the team acting almost as an on field coach the team would do much better even if they didn't make any runs.

Whats a consistent theme amongst the squads is too many bowlers and all-rounders with not enough pure batsmen. We're following the lead of English cricket by having lots of bits and pieces allrounders. You need to have 4 genuine bowlers, 1 all-rounder and if there are any other all-rounders they only make the side if they can get into the team just for their batting or bowling. It's ridiculous to lower your batting strength to play a 6 bowler when you'd do just as well using the 5 bowlers.

Yeah I hope that this is just an aberration and that the Cricket Australia XI put up better performances. Otherwise the inclusion of them will backfire on them.

Just stupid that Channel 9 aren't showing any games until Thursday.

Looks like 3 from 3 for New South Wales but no double bonus point this time.

That's the upside of Australia's tour of Bangladesh being cancelled it means test players are on show for their state teams.

After being blown off the park in their first 2 games the Cricket Australia XI chalked up a win over Tasmania today.

Beware of posts like this, he is the sole owner of the site and also an engineer at Big Ant - he don't have enough spare to watch/celebrate/express sadness of an 'A' series.
