Never forgetting this story and the support from my fellow PlanetCricket members. I'm working hard on making the next update the best update ever in terms of story-writing! That takes time of course, but trust me, it's worth it!

Went through your last few updates. Your writing is so impressive that this story would look real good even without pictures or fancy presentation. KUTGW, GL!:thumbs

I wrote one which was thankfully good enough to make it on there. I'll probably be writing another one at some point during the WI/Australia series and submitting it to them. Hope it also makes it to their site!

Pitch report and weather forecast Only T20 International

This pitch is going to be good for fans of T20 cricket. It has been rolled absolutely flat and there is good bounce and carry on it. The ball should come onto the bat nicely in both innings and the batsmen can trust the bounce and pace enough to play their shots. Could be big scores in this one.

Overhead, conditions are a little on the colder side, but it is still a wonderful day for playing cricket. This should be a great contest.

Squads

England
Alastair Cook (Bat)
Andrew Strauss (CAPT Bat)
Nick Beasley (WK)
Andy Keen (Bat)
Aaron Weaver (Bat)
Kevin Pietersen (Bat)
Graeme Swann (All)
Aaron Brien (All)
Stuart Broad (Bowl)
Daniel Stock (Bowl)
James Anderson (Bowl)

22-year old Daniel Stock makes his international debut for England in this match and there has been some talk about the talent that he has. Otherwise, England have a strong T20 side today.

Watch out for

Graeme Swann Time and time again it has been shown that the spinners are more than just a defensive option in T20 cricket and Swann has the experience to make himself a formidable bowler today.

Kevin Pietersen Batting down the order, he can explode when ready and score boundaries almost at will.

Bangladesh
Tamim Iqbal (Bat)
Shahriar Nafees (Bat)
Mohammed Mahmadullah (All)
Naeem Islam (All)
Shakib Al Hasan (CAPT All)
Nazimuddin (Bat)
Raquibul Hasan (Bat)
Nadimuddin (WK)
Mohammed Sharif (Bowl)
Dolar Mahmud (Bowl)
Subashis Roy (Bowl)

Bangladesh have decided to go with a rounded team for this match. The exclusion of a specialist spinner might prove to be a bad choice on their part, but only time will tell.

Watch out for

Tamim Iqbal Back-to-back centuries have proven that he is in some of the best form of his life and he clearly enjoys batting in England. He will want more of the same today, for sure.

Dolar Mahmud As the most internationally experienced bowler in this lineup, he will be called upon to show the rest of the attack what to do by example.

The toss

Strauss has the coin in his hand and tosses it as Shakib calls heads in midair. After some rolling around the coin finally settles heads up. Shakib shakes Strauss hand and informs him that Bangladesh will be bowling first. He says that Bangladesh have always been better at chasing totals than setting them and he backs his team to put out a good all-round showing today.

Strauss says that he would have batted first anyway, so it was no problem for him in losing the toss. The pitch looks perfect and he himself relishes getting a few runs on it as an opener. He wishes young Daniel Stock a successful debut and says that there is no reason why he should not aim to impress the selectors for the longer forms of the game. He excuses himself rather quickly as he has to get himself ready to bat.

Credit to User2010 for the limited overs banner, as was the case with the Test banner. It's harder than I thought to make graphicsmyself...Let's get this story rolling again!

The full T20 match will be up tonight.

Play Only T20 International

Cook took first strike as Mahmud ran in to bowl the opening over. The first ball was a beauty that just left Cook a fraction after pitching. The batsman genuinely searched for it but missed completely and the ball went to the keeper at chest height. Bangladesh were encouraged by the bounce and movement right from the start.

Cook was more confident for the next ball, playing a cover drive for a single to get England going. Mahmud was right on target, though, and the batsmen could only manage 4 singles from the over.

Sharif was a little less controlled with his line and length and Cook seized the chance to hit a couple of fours and run some singles to ensure that England were off to a good start. Shakib did not appear very happy as he stood at extra cover.

Alastair Cook turns one into the leg side and sets off for a single

Mahmud continued to show excellent control of where he wanted to pitch the ball and his second over went for just 5 singles. Sharif was not given the fourth over after going for 13 in his first. Instead, Shakib himself came into the attack.

With the Powerplay still in effect, it was hard to set the field as he would have wanted it for his left arm bowling. Strauss took advantage of that and hit two consecutive boundaries that looked as easy as anything.

England looked settled in the crease and the runs were flowing, at least from one end. Mahmud was pulled from the attack, to possibly save his last 2 overs for the death. But Roy was just as expensive as Sharif was. By the end of the fielding restrictions England were 51 without loss.

Shakib was able to spread his fielders around a bit more once the Powerplay had ended, and the boundaries were harder to find. Something had to give and it was Strauss who lost his cool first. He played an ugly shot to the arm ball from Mahmadullah and found himself on his way, LBW for 29.

Mahmadullah and Shakib celebrate the fall of the first wicket

Beasley got a single from his first ball to get off the mark and in the next over he took Mahmadullah over long off for a big six that sailed right into the crowd. At the other end, Cook was making sure that people remembered he was there as well, taking boundaries when he could. He seemed set for a half century, but Islam got him tickling one to the keeper, who held on well to a ball that he would not have seen for a little while. Cook departed for a well-played 47 from 38 balls. At that time England were 99 for 2 in the 12th over.

Roy had Beasley playing and missing to a good ball but Beasley got his revenge the next ball with his second six. This one went over midwicket and was superbly caught one-handed by a spectator.

Fans react to a superb catch by one of their own

Keen and Beasley played intelligently, rotating the strike and frustrating Bangladesh as they had to keep changing the field for each batsman. Beasley in particular was playing well and he got himself to fifty with a single to long on.

He and Keen were perhaps looking to see England through to the end of the innings but Mahmud had other ideas and he had Keen edging to Nadimuddin in a brilliant final over that saw only 5 runs taken from it. England had a competitive total and it was one that would take some batting to get for sure.

Bangladesh had not been used to scoring at 8 an over in T20 cricket and without their lower-middle order star batsman, Hom, it would definitely be a challenging total for them to overhaul.

But Tamim and Nafees had runs to their names in the Test series and they would have wanted to knock off as much of the total as possible as quickly as possible.

They got themselves off to a decent start with Tamim taking the third ball of the innings for a well-timed four. But then Broad struck to remove Nafees as he fished for a wider one and could only edge it to second slip. Bangladesh had lost their first wicket for only 7.

cook_broad_1989346c.jpg

Vice-captain Alastair Cook and bowler Stuart Broad discuss tactics as the new batsman comes in

In the second over Tamim continued to look for the boundary and he almost killed the umpire with a straight drive that thankfully the official barely managed to avoid. The ball just whizzed past his head on its way to the boundary for four.

Mahmadullah was the victim of some unfortunate running as he and Tamim pushed for a quick second. That second might just have been on if Mahmadullah ran as hard as Tamim but he just slipped in turning and by the time he looked up, Tamim was halfway up the pitch. He ran to the other end but had given up by then and was run out by miles. Bangladesh had lost their second with the score on 17.

Islam got off the mark first ball with a boundary and settled Bangladesh down by rotating the strike with Tamim. This took the pressure off of the opener and he was able to concentrate on hitting only the bad balls away to the boundary. One such ball sailed straight over long on for a big six that almost hit the camera. The replays were amazing to see.

Bangladesh almost had a double scare in the 6th over when Tamim skied one up into the air but luckily for him he had hit it right between two fielders and it dropped in no man?s land before trickling over the boundary.

Tamim+Iqbal+England+v+Bangladesh+1st+NatWest+Aoighag501Kl.jpg

Tamim nervously holds his pose for a moment as he realises that the ball has gone straight up

Two balls later there was a close run out appeal as the man in the covers picked up and hit the stumps directly with his throw. The umpire sent it upstairs and after much deliberation Islam was judged not out. Almost two wickets in the over but at the end of it Bangladesh were well on target, having scored 54 runs in the Powerplay.

Stock?s first over in international cricket almost started off in the perfect way as he had Islam just pulling his bat inside the line to one that did a little something off the seam. Stock had a big smile on his face as he walked back to his mark. But the nerves showed a little and he overstepped twice in the over. The free hits only went for singles but it would have put some thoughts into the young bowler?s head.

With the field spread, Bangladesh just worked the gaps and took singles and the occasional double. Whenever the required rate looked about to cross 8 an over, they hit a boundary. It was almost too easy for them and England really needed a wicket or two quickly.

They got one when Swann had Tamim mistiming one to long off. He went for 42, but after a partnership of 75 with Islam, he had ensured that Bangladesh would make England realize they were no pushovers.

strauss_2572583.jpg

Andrew Strauss was still worried as the wicket fell

Unfortunately for Bangladesh, they soon had another wicket down as Shakib only survived three balls in the middle before he was back in the pavilion, caught at slip off of Swann.

The English spinners were troubling Bangladesh and the next few overs saw many edges, mishits, and misses. By the time Swann had finished his 4 overs, the required rate had jumped up to 11 an over and Bangladesh were no longer looking as comfortable as they once were.

Nazimuddin decided to take matters into his own hands and he targeted Stock, the man on debut. Stock had bowled a much better second over to have figures of 0-10 as he ran in to bowl his third, but Nazimuddin unleashed on him to take 16 runs from the over. Only one run came from Islam and the last 12 were back-to-back-to-back boundaries. Stock looked crestfallen as he went to his fielding position at the end of the over. Not so for the Bangladeshi bench. Their faces were glum a few moments before but now there were some smiles showing.

It was still a tough ask of 39 runs from the last 4 overs, but Islam was one run away from 50 and Nazimuddin was in an aggressive mood. The first thing to happen was Islam?s half century, coming up via a six over midwicket. Just a slog sweep that was well-timed and went over the fence. He followed it with three more fours and then a double. If Nazimuddin thought he would have scored 15 from one over and that would have been enough, Islam showed him a thing or two about big hitting by taking 20 from the hapless Brien.

Strauss tossed the ball to Stock once again, an unusual decision. But Stock switched to around the wicket and his first two balls came at high speed to Nazimuddin, who could do nothing but poke his bat at them both. He clearly had little idea of how to handle it and he was lucky not to get an edge. Stock bowled much better in his last over and by the end of it Bangladesh needed 12 runs from 12 balls.

Broad had not bowled for some time in the match but he returned with a bang, taking Nazimuddin?s middle stump clean out of the ground with his first ball of the new spell. Out stepped Raquibul Hasan, a man who had not had a taste of international cricket for 2 years. But surely Bangladesh could not lose the match from there?

Hasan took a couple balls to get going but Bangladesh needed 6 runs from the last over to win. James Anderson was the man entrusted with the ball. He and Strauss took their time in setting the field. Islam was on strike and had played superbly for his 71 so far.

Finally Anderson was ready. He ran in. Would Islam go for glory and try to end it with one hit? Not to the full ball Anderson bowled. Islam could only guide it down to third man for one. 5 from 5.

Raquibul took strike. Anderson ran in. Raquibul was rapped on the pads. Up went the appeal and the finger. 5 from 4 and the new man Nadimuddin on strike.

James Anderson reacts to a vital wicket for his team

The third ball was one delivered from around the wicket to the left hander. It kept coming into him but he was able to send it backward of point for a single. 4 from 3. One hit away.

The fourth ball was fast, full, and straight. Islam had no answer to it. He was hit right on the boot and started to walk off almost before the umpire had given him out LBW. 4 from 2 and the tension was in the air.

Anderson bowled a carbon copy of the same ball to the new man Sharif. If a man who had been seeing the ball like a watermelon had no answer to it, a bowler like Sharif certainly did not. He went LBW for a golden duck and suddenly Bangladesh needed a boundary from the last ball. But Anderson was on a hat trick too and he had taken 3 in the over. Would he be England?s hero? Or would there be one final twist to the tale?

Mahmud walked out. He took his time in taking guard before Nadimuddin called him for a mid-pitch conference. Poor Nadimuddin was just a spectator to the carnage at the other end. Mahmud went back to the crease and waited for Anderson. The crowd cheered him on. Mahmud watched as he ran in. Anderson released the ball. Mahmud swung.

And missed.

The ball took the pad and Anderson appealed loudly to see the umpire raising his finger for the hat trick. England swarmed their hero as Nadimuddin stood at the non-striker?s end in shock. He finally shook the hands of the English fielders and walked off with Mahmud behind him.

At the post match ceremony, the crowd is still abuzz after having seen not only a brilliant display of bowling, but a brilliant match all around.

Shakib is understandably a little disappointed, saying that yet again the team made it to the end but just could not finish the job. When asked if it is a matter of having players who are just not used to winning, he says that that being used to winning is something that comes with winning. The boys all want to win so badly they sometimes make mistakes near the end. But at the same time they would have won had it not been for Anderson's final over. It took a skilled bowler to peg them back.

Strauss says that while everyone will focus on Anderson the entire match was played as a team. From Daniel Stock, who came back well after a poor first over, to Cook and Beasley with the bat, everyone really had their own impacts on the match. After two drawn Tests, finally one team has actually emerged as the first winner, and he was happy that it was England.

The man-of-the-match is, predictably, James Anderson. He says that he is still on cloud nine after that hat trick. To bowl a final over in T20 cricket with 6 runs required by the batting team is almost like a formality. Everyone expects the batsmen to make those runs by ball 3 or 4. He knew he had to focus on getting the ball up to the batsmen and making sure that the had nothing to work with. The hat trick just added even more sweetness to the whole thing.

Coverage ends with a highlight package, fading out to the Three Lions ECB logo with a shot of Anderson being surrounded by everyone after the completion of the hat trick.

Happy with the result, but the clumping of wickets happens rather too much in ICC.

Bangladesh in England 2013

First ODI preview

After a brilliant T20 match that saw the visitors almost overcome the hosts except for a brilliant final over from James Anderson, the ODI series is almost ready to begin. It promises to be an exciting series, with the Bangladeshis showing that they have both the talent and the mindset to keep the Englishmen on their toes constantly.

The first of three ODIs is going to be crucial for both teams. While England seem to have taken the upper hand with the first result of the tour, they have never really asserted their dominance over a team rated much lower than them in both the Test and ODI rankings. A win for England in this match would silence more than a few detractors, while a win for Bangladesh would mean nothing but pure joy to Bangladesh supporters around the world.

The visitors have their share of thinking to do, however. Their limited overs captain Shakib Al Hasan has struggled for form with both bat and ball in limited overs cricket for some time now and one wonders if the captaincy has something to do with that fact. With Rajin Saleh at the helm in Test cricket, Shakib has had a better record in the longer form of the game as of late. That must play on the minds of more than just a few supporters. Some have even been calling for Saleh's inclusion in the ODI team at the expense of Shakib himself.

However Bangladesh decide to make up their team for the ODI series, it is clear that they will not go down without a fight and England should make sure that they play good cricket, or else they could very well find themselves on the receiving end of a major upset.

A little humour thrown in at the start of the post. Of course the website is fake, as everyone probably realises by now. But I will not doubt that somewhere in the world there's a person out there with the username bangla4evarrr!

Pitch report and weather forecast ? 1st ODI

A pretty damp pitch and outfield today. The recent rains have made things a little difficult for the groundsman to keep everything totally dry but everything looks set to go. Bounce might be on the lower side and the spinners might get the ball to hold up and turn a little, especially near the start before things dry up.

The skies are cloudy and that should favour some early swing but as the white ball loses its shine it will be harder to get the ball moving in the air.

Squads

England
Alastair Cook (Bat)
Andrew Strauss (CAPT ? Bat)
Nick Beasley (WK)
Andy Keen (Bat)
Aaron Weaver (Bat)
Kevin Pietersen (Bat)
Graeme Swann (All)
Aaron Brien (All)
Stuart Broad (Bowl)
Daniel Stock (Bowl)
James Anderson (Bowl)

An unchanged team for England and they definitely had a lot of pressure to overcome in the last match. But they held their nerve well and pulled through for a tense victory.

Watch out for

Nick Beasley ? He played well in the T20 match, both in front of and behind the stumps.

James Anderson ? England owe their T20 victory to him alone and his ability to keep it deadly straight at the death should come in handy once again today.

Bangladesh
Tamim Iqbal (Bat)
Shahriar Nafees (Bat)
Mohammed Mahmadullah (All)
Naeem Islam (All)
Shakib Al Hasan (CAPT ? All)
Nazimuddin (Bat)
Saghir Hossain (Bat)
Nadimuddin (WK)
Tareq Aziz (Bowl)
Dolar Mahmud (Bowl)
Subashis Roy (Bowl)

Hossain and Aziz return to the team for this match, and they will look to ensure that they perform because there are one or two other players who want to stake a claim for a spot in the side.

Watch out for

Naeem Islam ? Apart from one mistake that resulted in his wicket last time around, he was flawless and his ability to score quickly was on show. Bangladesh would hope it shows again today.

Tareq Aziz ? His ODI form is impressive recently and he has the ability to bowl tight spells and pick up a few wickets for himself.

The toss

Shakib calls heads in midair and the coin indeed lands heads up. He decides to bowl first, saying that the overhead conditions will make it harder for a team to score and they hope the skies will clear later on in the innings when they chase.

Strauss says that Bangladesh took them right down to the wire in the last match but this time around he does not want it to be so close. He hopes for a big score and to then ensure that Bangladesh are out of the match from as early as possible.

Okay, prediction contest. The winner gets...uh...hmm...a special cameo in the next update! Yeah, that'll work!

The questions:

How many runs will England score? Give a range of 20 runs, ie 100-20, 160-180, etc. In cases of a tie the closest prediction wins. Bonus point for anyone who predicts the number of wickets that have fallen. (Worth 2 points plus 1 bonus point, but anyone who guesses a number instead of a range and gets it right within 2 runs gets 5 bonus points and a cameo in the next update regardless of the winner)

Who takes the most wickets for Bangladesh? (Worth 2 points)

How many wickets will the highest wicket-taker have? (Worth 1 point)

Bonus points:
Who top scores for England? (1 point, a bonus 2 points if you give a score and it is within 10 runs of that batsman's score)
Which Bangladeshi bowler has the lowest economy rate? (1 point)

Put in your predictions, folks! Remember the winner gets a special mention/cameo in my next update!

1. England's score: 240 to 260 (I'd go for an exact 253 for 6)
2. Most wickets for Bangladesh: Shakib Al Hasan (3 wickets maybe)

Bonus:

1. Top scorer for England: Andrew Strauss
2. Lowest economy for Bangladesh: Tareq Aziz

Come on, User2010 isn't the only one who reads this story! Guys, it's just a few questions to answer...it doesn't take that long. I'm giving this contest until...Friday next week. That's the 20th, I believe.

If nobody else enters the contest, then hell, I'll make User an umpire or something! He has already made amazing banners for my story...the least he deserves is some more recognition.

And User...bet you'd love to know how close you are, huh?
