Welcome to Asia for the inaugural Asia Cup, a tournament contested between Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Six overs per side... expect some fireworks

The ICC have stated that the tournament will be six overs per side format, with two overs of fielding restrictions and one over each for six bowlers.

Paksitan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has applauded this format, saying it is 'not tiring for the players' and that it will 'encourage equality between bat and ball'.

Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq praises the ICC's six over format

"I like the idea. The batsman will never be settled because there will be a bowling change every over. The bowlers will never be settled because they only get one over each. The match is so short that it won't burn out the players either," beamed Inzi.

Format

Each match is six overs per side, with six bowlers alloted one over to bowl each and a period of two overs in which fielding restrictions apply. Each team plays against each other once. The top two teams after all matches have been played will play a final match against each other. The winner of the final match will be awarded the Asia Cup.

Match Preview: Pakistan v Sri Lanka

Pakistan are on home shores for their opening match in the Asia Cup slog-a-thon against Sri Lanka.

Neutrals around the world will be hoping for a Pakistan win to keep hopes alive of a Pakistan-India final on Tuesday.

"We are not looking at any final with India. We are just looking at this game and the big task that it will be," said vice captain Younis Khan.

Murali is unlikely to feature against Pakistan in the Asia Cup openers

For Sri Lanka, Muttiah Muralitharan is likely to be rested by the selectors, giving reasons that "Murali is too important to us".

Welcome to Karachi in Pakistan for this match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup. The pitch is crumbling and should be good for spin bowlers and the weather looks good. Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena won the coin toss and elected to bowl first.

Sri Lanka dropped a lot of catches but Pakistan rode their luck and captain Inzamam-ul-Haq scored 35 not out from 20 balls to help his team to post a total of 67-2.

Sri Lanka require 68 runs to win from 36 balls.

India restrict Pakistan to 51-6 in fiery rivals match

The match between Pakistan and India at Karachi in the Asia Cup has begun. Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq called Heads at the coin toss and his team won it, electing to bat first.

India were much better with the ball than Sri Lanka were, and Pakistan's much hyped batting trio of Inzamam-ul-Haq, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf made only 27 runs between them.

Pakistan only managed to post a total of 51-6, giving India a good chance to forget about their loss to Bangladesh and win their first match in the tournament at the second attempt.

India and Pakistan are arch rivals and a packed stadium gives the winner a much sweeter taste of victory.
