Pardon?
Sorry, It was meant to be somthing like this;
I'm not having a go at the umpires, but it is wrong when the third umpire who does nothing at all throughout the whole day does get something wrong that is so blatently out??
Pardon?
I am not commenting on specific decisions, but for the record yes I did think that was out. But then I have an instant advantage over an onfield umpire, because before I even watched the clip I knew it was going to be out didn't I. I didn't say umpires don't make mistakes, but I can accept umpiring mistakes without calling umpires incompetent, racist or biassed.For Kev, if it is legal:
And if you can call that not-out, I've got nothing more to say.
Bad example, I do know how to fix cars and computersRight... this argument. So why do you bitch if your car stops working? Or if your computer crashes? Do you know how to build a computer or fix a car?
Besides that it is much easier to get on the Elite Panel than to be dropped from it. Asoka de Silva had to be a substandard umpire for almost 2-3 years before he was finally axes from it. Steve Bucknor has shown that his umpiring is clearly fading. In fact there was an article in Cricinfo I found during some initial research that noted Bucknor's many mistakes during India's last tour to Australia.
Maybe he did, I think that has happened beforeThe only explantaion i can come up with is that he pressed the wrong button.
Thats what they tried in the English county ODI's, They found that teams never really used them and when they were used the umpires decisions were usually correct.
Umpiring has definitely become a high pressure job especially with advances in technology broadcasting their every mistake all over the world. However, the ICC seems to be ignoring the effect of this on the actual umpires. Some people perform under pressure and others don't. The simple fact of the matter is that if umpires begin to fail under pressure, you have to question their presence at the Elite Panel.
It is my opinion that Steve Bucknor is one who has not been able to cope with the pressure. This man has been in poor form against all opposition over the last few seasons, especially when you compare it to his performance in the mid-90's where he was regarded as one of the best umpires in the game. His performance in the World Cup final also shows that he just may not have it anymore to deal with the intensity, and as Dravid said about Indian captaincy, an Elite Panel umpire may have a "shelf life".
See--it really depends on what country you support. I have not seen much of Harper and hence have no problems with his umpiring. Whereas I have seen Bucknor a lot with matches featuring India and have seen him go from bad to worse. This is definitely not a knee-jerk reaction to yesterday's performance as the article I brought up from India's last SCG test shows the problems have been around for a while.Dunno about Bucknor despite yesterday's happenings but Daryl Harper has got to go though. I have seen him for a number of years make errors and you feel how he's been able to umpire in over 100 ODI's and over 70 tests. He made plenty of errors in Sri Lanka to tip the iceberg.
