Debutants Costa Rica had a rough introduction into the world of Olympic cricket as Chile posted an imposing 201/3 in the first match of the 1936 Olympic Games. John Jackson carried his bat through for 119 off 163 balls in a magnificent display of batsmanship. It was their first ever Olympic century, and only the second fifty plus score ever recorded by a Chilean batsman in the Olympics. John Jewell, who chipped in with 50 off 85 balls soon became the third.

The Costa Ricans briefly threatened Chile when two of their best players - Lancelot Binns and Ken Thomas put on an entertaining 59-run stand for the 3rd wicket. But they soon fell by the wayside following skipper Binns' dismissal, and were bundled out for 141. The Maurice Jewell-led Chileans emerged victorious for the very first time in 16 years of participation in the Olympics by a handsome margin of 60 runs.

The Chinese were made to work extremely hard for their victory by Alma Hunt, who after scoring 68 promptly took 4 for 18 with the ball. His style of play earned him comparisons with the legendary American John Barton King, though it's unlikely he will ever come close to matching the latter's feats mainly because of where he hails from. But today he achieved the rare distinction of scoring a half-century and taking 4 wickets in an innings, something neither King or any of Olympic cricket's great all-rounders were ever able to do. In fact, only two players in Olympic cricket's 40-year history - namely the great Jack Laing of Canada and Great Britain's Wally Hammond have ever achieved this. It's a shame he won't get any further opportunities to display his all-round skills in this edition of the Olympic Games.

Lineup rules

1) A proper wicket-keeper (:wk:/:wkb:) in your XI.
2) A minimum of 6 players marked to bowl.
3) Players ruled out due to injury cannot be selected.
4) Lineup restrictions/quotas as mentioned in the match details must be followed.
5) I don't usually wait more than 72 hours for lineups in this league, regardless of who the manager is. So you better get a move on before that.

Player rarities

In each squad, players have been marked with these icons to give you a fair idea of their playing skills and overall usefulness to your team.

:purpo: - Legend. Used for the players that are undoubtedly the best of the lot.
:goldo: - Gold. Used for players with a high level of consistency and ability to deliver during key moments.
:redo: - Ruby. Used for players that are extremely talented and can play in a way no one else can replicate.
:slvo: - Silver. Used for players that aren't as talented as their Gold/Ruby/Legend contemporaries, but still capable of holding their own against the best in business.
:bro: - Bronze. Used for players that are a level below Silver. They are more likely to put in good performances than players from the Sapphire/Crystal category.
:blueo: - Sapphire/Crystal. Used for players that are inexperienced or with a lower skill set compared to those from a higher category. They could either put in good performances or fail miserably.

Statistics

Explanation on pitch types

Damp/Sticky - Massively in favor of bowlers and an absolute nightmare to bat on, unless you're Victor Trumper.
Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines.
Green - A lot of movement on offer, which makes it ideal for bowlers capable of swinging the ball. Quite regular to find in most European countries.
Hard - Ideal conditions for batting. Good deal of bounce on offer for fast bowlers as well. Could go either way.
Dry/Slow - Ideal for slow and spin bowlers as the name suggests. Sometimes quite difficult to bat on.
