Terrible news for England with Jofra Archer out for the rest of the year. Misses the World Cup and of course the Ashes.

Not sure if its just because I pay more attention to England or if the same is happening to other teams but the number of pace bowlers we seem to lose to long term injuries strikes me as too high to be a coincidence. Appreciate fast bowling takes a huge toll on the body but with all the science and analysis done these days can't help feeling 'stress' injuries shouldn't be as frequent.

Root bowled him to death when he 1st got in the team. Never been right since.

Can you blame him though? He was and is an exciting prospect. Any captain would be tempted enough to keep him bowling from one end. It didn't help that there wasn't much help form the other end (I think....) which went against him.

I can blame him yeah, he mismanaged Jofra to the point of destroying his elbow. You only have to look at how Mitchel Johnson was managed against us to see how it should have been done.

If I talk about India Bhuvi hasn't played a Test for us since last 3 and a half years. Bumrah isn't at his best since he had a back injury until the ongoing Test where he took a 4-fer in the 2nd innings. Mohammad Shami did not play a Test for us from 2015 till 2016 England series and no ODIs between 2015 & 2018.

Fortunately these days we have a great number of turn out as far as the pacers are concerned. What we are lacking is a seaming all-rounder big time!!!! Hardik Pandya is an option but he isn't able to bowl 10 overs for us in ODIs.(he also adds to the long term injured list)

Him and Wood are exciting bowlers. Annoying that they get injured a lot. Both were great in the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup when it mattered most though.

Is this a suggestion or a prediction? Because for me at least they'd be two very different things.

Also, that Sibley-Hameed pairing would be something for the purists

Seems Anderson and Broad might both be out. I need to think a bit, but think I would play Wood and Overton if Anderson and Broad are out. Overton 9, Robinson 10, Wood 11. If just one is out then it is difficult. Perhaps Overton because Wood is much stronger away from home than at home statistically.

This is what England needs in the upcoming Ashes. But they need other bowlers to support him.
