With his 'fitness' there is no way that the ECB would bring him in, it would also look like a step back for the ECB to bring him in. To me he's a county standard bowler and nothing on more.

I'd check the records then, if I was you. Blackwell is more than good enough to get through 10 overs and keep the rate down, as he has shown in the past. In a ODI team he'd be more of a bowling all-rounder, but with a higher ability with the bat than most, for me. Perhaps not quite a genuine all-round number 7, but probably as close as we have.

Yea i guess your right about Blackwell. I think i actually wanted him to be picked for the T20 world cup squad over Yardy in 2010, since i was impressed with him improvement during the 2009 domestic season.

Was Blackie in ENGs 30 man provisional WC squad?

On ability, Blackwell would be in ahead of Yardy. But we all know why the selectors won't go for that.

Definitely a better bat in shorter formats, bowling is quite different in terms of style, fairly similar in terms of effectiveness. I think Yardy's captaincy (which is fantastic) helps in his selection, he'll bring a lot to the team off the field.

Yardy is in possession now and I think it's fair enough, Blackwell does have some fitness issues (or has had, I think he improved it last year, didn't he?), hasn't he also had some behavioural issues? Or am I thinking of someone else.

I think he'd be one of a few candidates to come in if Yardy's value soon dropped off as the 2nd spinner. He's a shoe-in for World Cup imo.

I might be barking up the wrong tree but I think remember him getting lashed on England duty once. Could be a completely different person but I think I've heard that at some point.

There is no thread for 'Eng squad', so I will just ask here. Why is Cook rested for the ODIs? Are they trying to make him into a test specialist? Will he be in WC squad? (I should ask this in WC -Eng thread)

Cook isn't being rested. He hasn't been in the ODI team for quite a while now.

I don't remember Blackwell having any behavioural stuff, but I might just not know about it. The only issues he's had are with his fitness, so might be that.

I just found it surprising that Blackwell didn't get dropped from ODIs, just injured, yet he never got another shot, despite being brilliant up at Durham. Also, interesting to see that he outperformed Yardy when they both played in NZ recently. I think Yardy is a shoe-in for the WC, but Blackwell has no chance, even if about 5 spinners go down injured, which you can probably guess my opinion on.

No idea about him getting out and about on tour though. ;)
