Morgan is out of the World Cup, Bopara has been called in as replacement.

Gives us some more bowling options and his batting could be suited to the Sub-Continent. He got a couple of fifties in India when we last toured, but obviously that could be countered by his time in Sri Lanka, though that was with the red ball. Though he did play 5 ODI's in Sri Lanka as well, but that was over 3 years ago and everyone was useless.:p

Great ! Our best batsman is done for the WC . This was a chance where they could have atleast brought back Steve Davies having realized the uselessness of Prior in the squad over the last 6 ODIs . Bopara is not a bad choice given his playing style suits SC conditions but still i would have favoured Davies to replace Moggs .

You can't replace what Morgan brings to the side, as he's unique to be honest and pretty damn good. I think with Bopara, we've gone for a guy who can run hard in the middle overs and hit big at the end hopefully. He really needs to improve on that highest score though, but he's a decent enough choice and brings bowling and fielding to the team. There are a couple of other players around who could play that finisher role, but none of them has the experience of Bopara, in terms of previous ODIs.

This will be blessing in disguise for Eng. Morgan is out of touch. Nassir Hussain explained why Bopara would've been a good pick for subcon. And there you have it.

Bopara's ability to be used as a floater might have pushed his selection. The fact that he can bowl a bit might have aided it further. On the SC wickets, dibbly-dobbly bowlers end up picking more wickets normally- e.g look at Chris Harris of NZL.

Morgan's loss will be felt only in the batting department. If Bopara can don that role, it will be a good outing for England.

What Morgan brought was consistency when on song, he might have found that in the WC but we will never know now. Bopara offers the big hitting but no consistency and the English batting is dodgy as it is. So now they have Bopara and Collingwood at 6 and 7, you'd want the old Collingwood back else the tail starts at 6.

Collingwood may not play. It could Bopara at 6 and Yardy at 7. Not looking good.

We'll be taking our usual early exit from the World Cup. :rolleyes

Well this is what happens when you schedule a meaningless and pointless 7 match ODI series just for some more money. Who is it that made the schedule, ICC or the cricket boards?? Atm there is complete overkill of the limited overs formats. If you restricted the series to 3 games it would make each series much more special.

Big blow to England - Morgan was the reason behind Eng's ODI success over the last 18 months.

Scheduling the Ashes so close to the Cup was quite senseless. The other option could have been to split up the tour into two halves- First before the Cup play Tests A month after the Cup, play ODIs.

I'm not convinced that Morgan's departure is all that big a loss. There batting has never "relied" upon him as much as it has the top 3-4. At least with Bopara's inclusion addition bowling is available and thus less reason to play Luke Wright.

I was a bit of a Morgan fan when he first came onto the scene but I'm less and less convinced of his abilities every time I see him play, especially in the longer formats.

Just what a fully fit and energetic Stuart Broad adds to the English side ! A 5/39 against Canada followed by a 3/12 in his first 6 overs against Pakistan now . Take a bow son !
