I have worked out how 2 change fields.
The problem is each fielding position has different numbers and if u put certain numbers the game crashes. But if anyone would e-mail me with a field request,i will post the updated files back 2 u

Are you able to make a whole swag of Field setting, and put them up for download.

Will what your doing, be in addition to the default setting, or can we only replace existing
settings. In other words , is it possible to have heaps and heaps of setting to choose
from while playing the game.

I don't think it would be possible to have custom fields - like being able to change fileds during matches.
So in other words u can only have custom default fields,if u see what i mean ?
unless someone could build an in-game editor, which i don't think would be possible.

but what sort of fields do u want me to change ?
if anyone leaves a request for a field or 2 i will send it to the site....but as i'm not really sure what fields people would like i don't know which ones 2 do.

What about a really crowed around the batsman field for the spiners.
A complete tight circle around him. Sounds like it could be fun.

Or a Steve Waugh 10 men in the slips :). On second thoughts, what might
work better for this game is crowding those areas where the AI batsmen typically
hit to.

Could you make up different fields crowding a particular shot, then we could
bowl to those fields. Will we be able to choose what default feld we can replace
with your stuff.
cheers

Basically what i've found out is when u access the fielding files, there are numbers which relate 2 where abouts in the field these are.
what i'm trying 2 do at the moment is going through all these numbers 2 find out which numbers relate 2 what fielding position , which takes a long time.
But in answer 2 your question u can decide which fields 2 change , for example if i made a field with 10 slips as Aggressive1 for the Fast bowler , u could change the file name to, say , Retreat1 for the Leg-Spinner.
And also to answer your other question u can have a really close-in field, like I changed a field so i had 9 around the bat, and 1 fielder was actually STANDING ON THE PITCH !
But the downside 2 this is that if u have a field like that , the computer will also have it.
I will try and update ppl with anything else i find.

I think there's enough good default fields there for the player already, but there are some weird ones there which I would like to remove so that the CPU doesn't use them against me.

What I am referring to is, the way the CPU calls up that stupid field where the on-side is stacked with fielders on the boundary (deep square leg, deep mid-wicket, long-on etc.), yet straight down the ground, long-off and deep cover is vacant. Its too easy to push the ball to the vacant part of the field. So I 'spose if I knew which files were for which fields (and where the files are located) I could copy over this particular field with one of the other existing ones (so that there are two the same). This would prevent the CPU from being able to call this field. I wouldn't mind if the CPU knew how to bowl to this field!

I am really enjoying the game without the commentary - now I'm not sure if my shots are 4s or 6s and I have to run.

yeah that annoys me too that defensive field they set, usually when your batsman gets to 75* , and then all u have to do is defend and take a single , also i find the aggressive fields too aggressive , all u have to do is drive and u get a four.
I agree with u that most of the default fields are alright , it's just that they need some little tweaks here and there.

So, Ben, if you know how to alter fields, can you tell me where and what the files are? Are all fields defined in one file, or could I copy over an existing field with another existing one like I explained above?

The fields are kept in c/codemasters/blc(swc)/fields/ , then there is are 2 folders 1 for 1-day and 1 for test , if u open up the 1-day for example there will be 4 folders swing, fast, leg spin, off spin, then in each of those folders there are the different types of fields u get in the change field setting in the game.
So if u wanted to overwrite defensive1 for one-day Leg Spin , it would be in c/codemasters/blc/fields/1day/Leg/Defend1.
I've just e-mailed a guy with some one-day field changes for spinners he requested , so if anyone else would like to request a field just e-mail me.
cheers

In ODI's occassionally you might need a long off back on the fence to stop being driven down the ground for 4. While keeping a man on the fence at point or cover.

Also there are some really silly field settings for the spinners esp. in the ODI's. Like after the batsman has made like 40 or so they may place all the fielders in front of square on both sides makeing it impossible to hit any sort of a boundary between them (along the ground). I want to know whether or not you can space out the fielders a bit more or are you only able to change their positions?

What are you using to edit these files anyway?

Thanks for the info Ben. I didn't realise there were separate fields for the different bowling styles - they seem the same to me, so maybe Codemasters originally intended on having separate fields but then got lazy. I haven't studied them too much myself, so its possible they are different for spin bowling and pace bowling and I just haven't noticed.

If u guys have come up with a few field settings or an AI improvement send the file to us.Hope people will learn to do things on seeing it

In reply to Gunner04 ,
I am just editing using a Hexeditor.
If u want more info please e-mail me and I will try to explain.
Cheers
