I cant remember the last time i ever saw field settings like this against Australia!!! In the last two overs the fiels setting were;

5 Slips
2 Gullys
1 Silly Point
1 Short Leg

I was there and someone shouted over to the 40 odd Aussies biting there nails "I BET YOUVE NEVER SEEN A FIELD SETTING LIKE THAT BEFORE". It was amazing!!

Or perhaps why Vaughn persisted with having men on the fence whilst leaving huge holes in the slips when Aus were no chance of reaching the total.... I suppose to keep pressure on by preventing boundaries, but I thought given the circumstances it was a rather odd.

Still think it's funny that they were only trying to bowl yorkers to that field.
Got to agree there mate. For me, England's bowling at the tail both in the Test at Edgbaston, (where we were fortunate to sneak it) and the last Test, has been poor. Too much stuff short of a length, at the body or down legside, or yorkers. Where has the line/length stuff gone, just on or outside off stump, inducing the Oz batsmen into the stroke? Odds on they'll nick it to slip/keeper. Simon Jones has been the best at this for me, and Freddie beat Lee and Warne several times with deliveries like this (angling in on a length then cutting/swinging away), but there was still far too much straight/legside stuff for my liking. Yorkers only work where there's that element of surprise about them (McGrath to Pietersen being a good example).

yep, good length, on the stumps. "you miss, i hit" as the saying goes.
outside off, they tended to give balls that tailenders struggle to touch.

The ball to warney is teh way to bowl at the tail.I dont think england have realised that yet.The aussie tail almost one a test for them,saved the follow-on and saved the test match

If a good line and length ball is good enough for a batsman, then its more than good enough for a tailender! Look at some of the balls Flintoff bowled to Brett Lee, alright he didn't get him out, but they were bloody good balls that he wasn't comfortable against.

Yep, as Boycs said when quoting Trueman, "that were too good for thee, lad!"; in other words, the tailenders weren't good enough to get a nick :D

Yeh one of the best reflex catches by Jones aswell to catch him.
