If you are watching the series but have not read the books, are you pooping yourself right now?

Well I'm watching the first series on DVD and have reached book 5 (Dance with Dragons). Highly recommended tbh. Contains a certain realism that LOTR doesn't with regard to sex and violence.
Already preferring the books to the TV series but I guess you have to take certain liberties when adapting it.

Colin I got to DWD and stopped. I am re-reading the series before I get into Dance. Back at Storm of Swords now.

Finished DWD. Annoyed that I now have to wait for Winds of Winter. Can I discuss DWD or are you unspoiled?

haha that is exactly why I am "saving" it. WOW won't be for another year at least

I was saving it for the 2 days I spend in Sonoma but I couldn't find a copy there. I'll get around to it so we can discuss.

I'm good up to Feast for Crows

----------

I am really looking forward to this battle in the HBO series, won't be for a while though

Oberyn vs Gregor Clegane

Can't wait to read Dance, I got through almost half of Crows before I realized it did not touch Tirion or Dany.

Finish the TV series yet Colin?

Got some interesting points to discuss. Namely the butterfly effect that will happen with them killing of a character that did not happen in the book

Only watched the first series. Not sure when I'll be able to watch the second.
I thought Martin was an exec producer so presumably he's saying to them, "woah, don't kill him off". Who are you referring to?

Marillion, in the books he stays behind at the Eerie and is ultimatly blamed for Lysa's fall.

In the TV series they have him return to Kings Landing where Joff cuts his tongue out.

----------

I watched an interview with Martin where they asked him how much control he has over the show. He said if HBO wanted aliens to land in the next episode they could.

He basically had tonnes of offers over the years to make this series and held out until HBO because they are the most trust worthy to stick to his original material.

That being said, they can do what they want with the story line and he can't do anything. His role is more of a consulting one along with directing 1 episode a season.

They start to take greater liberties with the storyline in Season 2.

Lets just say there is no weasel soup :(

I can't see the change you mentioned having too much of a butterfly effect. It's always easier to have composite characters rather than use them once and kill them off.
I assume the writers have read the books so they must have some idea where they're going. I also read somewhere that Martin has had to tell HBO the plot of the last two books in case he drops dead before writing them.

Yup, he has told the two producers. Greg SPence and the other guy.

He has said if he dies that will be it for the books. He will not give anyone else permission to finish them. So we'd have to rely on the series which would suck

So if I lived in the US I could watch season 2 on the HBO website, if I lived in Australia I could download it from itunes...
Living in the UK I can wait until the DVDs release in March 2013.

As someone said on another forum I was reading, if HBO can't work out a way to make money out the millions of people wanting to watch the show every week they don't really deserve to be in the game. No wonder it's the most pirated show of 2012.

Edit: this cartoon would appear to sum it up.
