Goodbye to JL?

A curious predicament for selectors as they need to replace a no. 4 in ODIs and an opener in Tests. On paper, that probably looks good for Chris Rogers, but he is a poor one day player. I have a tough time thinking they would select a player for tests only though, so I think it's likely that they'll move Watson to four or five so they can bring Jaques in.

We might be about to see something interesting, possibly very good for New Zealand and England. Well, actually, the chance of one batsman single-handedly losing several matches isn't as good as the chance of one batsman completely dominating.

Aussies will surely miss him... Now three Aussie giants gone...

On form you have to go with Rogers at the moment to replace Langer.

Don't need to replace Marto with another number 4. I reckon Clarke will go number 4, Symonds at number 5 and Hussey at number 6. Then slot a hard hitting batsmen at number 7 like Brad Haddin (Gilly played quite a few matches purely as a batsmen, plus it would be good for Haddin to get an extended run in the team) or Cameron White.

Stuff form go with history.

Form is the reason it took so long to get Hussey in the team.
From the age of 24 to 27 he dominated the domestic scene but couldnt crack a spot coz there was no room but when there finally were spots over the last 4 years he kept getting overlooked due to poor form.
He still had the great skills but his dreams of playing for aus were shattered and his game suffered.

Jaques has dominated over the last 2 years and always performed well against international teams he is clearly the most talented going around.
His poor form this series in domestic would be due to his hopes of taking part in the ashes an playin for aus being shattered.
2 years of domination counts more than a few months of good form in my book.

I reckon before Australia plays another Test there will be no Warne,McGrath, Langer,Hayden.

Sad to hear his announcement, because I like to see him playing. This guy really impressed me, since he showed he can determine his speed of batting. He hit slow runs in Test cricket and quick runs in ODI scenes. And this also ends the greatest Test partnership of all time.

No surprise here, I pretty much predicted he would leave. This should be the end of the retirements from the Test arena for now. Gilly probably after the WC.
Will be interesting seeing who they go for as could be either Jaques or Rogers.

Grit and determination is what he was about who was always prepaired to put in the hard yards and he was probably one of those batsman who probably acchieved more then he was destined for.

I feel he is going to have more of an impact in this match than both McGrath or Warne will. I just think he deserves it because a lot of people seem to be forgetting about his retirement and all the focus is on Warne and McGrath so i'm expecting a timely hundred from him.

In all fairness it was pretty obvious. This is Australia's last Test match for ages and Langer would have to wait until then to get another game.

Like they said yesterday, Australia have a poor schedule this year and probably forced the retirements.

Well I don't really know if it would have made too much difference. Langer looked certain to retire after the Ashes given hes already beaten India and Zimbabwe is not even a Test match.
