Story Hot and Sticky Tour (ENG vs WI)

Yeah I used Foster in the first two games and thought I'd give Read a chance. Can't really drop him after this knock though!!

RB: Welcome back here to Port of Spain where Trinidad need a good start to their 2nd Innings. Having posted a total of just 137 at the first time of asking England will be expecting to wrap this game up on this the 3rd day. Over now to Bill Lawrie and Tony Greig...

TG: Thanks Richie, well these Trinidadian batsmen will be hoping to play a good solid innings. They started quite well last time out and with a forecast of rain they'll be hoping ot hold out until the thunder arrives.

BL: Well it might rain here Tony but they don't deserve it. They bowled terribly did Trinidad allowing England to reciver from 117/5 to 501 all out and they deserve to be thrashed.

TG: Well that's a bit harsh Bill. They were unlcuky the Trinidadian bowlers and Collingwood, Read and Giles batted well. And here comes Andrew Caddick at the start of this innings and that one has just gone through to the keeper. As I was saying Bill, they've been a little unlucky here and Jan batted well in the first innings and Trinidad will be hoping for more of the same as Caddick comes into bowl once again...

BL: GOT HIM YES!!!! Go on p*ss off you're out. That's f**ked them now Tony Jan out for a duck and Trindad none for one.

RB: Things didn't get much better for trindad and three further wickets fell leaving them 17/4.

RB: Steve Harmison was really fired up this morning and at one point the batsmen tried to hide up his own arse leaving his bat out to dry and luckily for him it didn't take the edge...

But the Trindad resistance didn't last long and a fiery spell by Anderson quickly removed the middle order. The victory all but in hand Vaughan decided to toss the ball to Collingwood who licked it, rubbed it and buffed it up to a beautiful shine. It swung through the air and snicked the edge on its way through to the keeper. And it was Collingwood again who took the final wicket of the innings surely booking his place in the Test side as England bowled out Trinidad for 67.

RB: Ali finished 22* despite the buggy game claiming he was c&B by Casper the Friendly Ghost. But his efforts were pretty futile with England winning by an Innings and 297 runs. Despite not contributing to the bowling effort Ashley Giles won the Man of the match award for a splendid knock of 145*. The bowling figures for the Trinidad 2nd Innings were...

A reasonably convincing win there! Nice screen shots as well. Roll on the second test. Also good to see Collingwood fighting back against the match fixing allegations thrown at him. I guess the British tabloids are just too willing to jump on a "story" and blow it out of proportion. They'll never learn.

RB: Well welcome here to Port of Spain for the 2nd Test between England and the West Indies. England name a changed side following their tour match against Trinidad.

Vaughan (c), Trescothick, Butcher, Thorpe, Collingwood, Flintoff, Read, Giles, Caddick, Harmison, Anderson

Collingwood determined to continue to let his cricket do the talking in dismissing recent match fixing allegations and he replaces Nasser Hussain who has had the timing of a broken watch on this tour.

Chris Read replaces Foster after his marvelous century vs Trinidad and Adrew Flintoff returns after a hamstring strain. Andy 'BFG' Caddick will replace Simon Jones in the England bowling attack.

Over now to Tony Greig for his pitch report

TG: Well it's very hot here Richie and the overcast sky suggests the ball will swing about early on. The pitch is dry and will probably become dusty by day 4 giving the spinners plenty of encouragement in the latter stages of this test. If the team batting first can weather the early movement they could post a large total on this pitch.

RB: Well England won th etoss and elected to bat. They got off to a fairly good start as well with Vaughan playing some very good shots. Trescothick however, fell victim to Edwards caught plum in front for 6. England battled on and Vaughan and Butcher had a fairly solid stand before Vaughan left one outside off stump and was harshly given out lbw off the bowling of Drakes. 84/2

RB: Things got worse for England when Butcher played the wrong line and was clean bowled by Collymore for 28. At 94/3 it seemed that perhaps the Windies with the wind well and truly in their sails could snatch another wicket before the lunch break. It wasn't to be though and Thorpe and Collingwood have played gutsy and yet rather dull innings.

At tea they're both still there though half the crowd has gone home. Just 73 runs were scored in the second session with Collingwood choosing to gain revenge for match fixing allegations by boring everyone to death. Even Geoff Boycott has been heard shouting out to the middle for the batsmen to get a move on. England have recovered but the game very much in the balance.

RB: Well Following the break for tea England continued to plod along at a pedestrian rate. However, in an attempt to step up the run rate Collingwood misjudged a quick single and was comfortably run out just short of his 50. It was going to be a day of close but no cigar for England and Thorpe was dismissed leg before wicket for 94.

Flintoff was batting impressively at that point, skipping down the wicket a couple of times to launch Edwards over the infield. The Windies quickie however had the final say and having been whipped off to the leg side boundary earlier in the over he found an extra yard of pace, beat the leg glance and bowled Flintoff for 39. Close of play on the first day England 282/6 but with Read and Giles at the crease - both centurions against Trinidad - the morning session promises to be an interesting one.

It may have been plodding, but 282 is not a bad score for a day. Shame for Colly, and indeed for Thorpe. I'm still waiting for my first century on my tour.
