ICC Best Of The Rest Championship

Instead of just making a tour I?ve decided to go with something different

icclogo8bi.jpg

In the latest meeting of the ICC the debate of the which nation is currently the greatest test and one day side arose after hours of heated discussion the representatives from each country came to the agreement of a tournament that will decide the champion of Test?s and ODI?s once and for all. This tournament will be known as the ICC Best Of The Rest Championship.

ICC TEST CHAMPIONSHIP

The Test champions will be decided in one big tournament where each Test playing nation will play each other in a test series with the number of test to be played in that series decided by the current cricketing strength of that nation.

The level 1 nations are the current top 6 and will play 3 tests to a series and are as follows:
Australia
India
England
Pakistan
New Zealand
South Africa

The level 2 nations are the following and will play 2 tests to a series and are as follows:
Sri Lanka
West Indies

The level 3 nations are the final 2 nations and will play 1 test a series and are as follows:
Zimbabwe
Bangladesh

Obviously it will be harder for the lower ranked teams to win the test championship as they have the handicap of playing fewer matches.

The top two teams at the end of the Championship will play off in the final series to decide the winner.

The points system will work like this:
Win = 5 points
Lose = 0 points
Bonus Points for innings win = 2 points
First Innings Points = 2 Points

ICC ONE DAY INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

The One Day International Championship will be played at the same time as the test championship but the ODI series will be played before the test series just like any other tour.

The level 1 nations will play 3 ODI?s and are as follows:
Australia
South Africa
Pakistan
New Zealand
India
Sri Lanka

The level 2 nations will play 2 ODI?S and are as follows:
England
West Indies

The level 3 nations will play 1 ODI?s a series and are as follows:
Zimbabwe
Bangladesh

The top two teams at the end of the championship will play off in the final series to decide the winner.

The points system will work like this:
Win = 3points
Draw = 2 points
Lose = 1 point

If the losing team fails to achieve the bonus point target then they will receive no points and that point will go to the winning team. The bonus point will be 65% of the score or a win inside 40 overs.

I will be playing as Australia and will also include Allan Border medal votes that will determine the most valuable player over the championship.

20Twenty Competition

For a bit of fun there will be a 20Twenty match before each series that will also have a winner at the end of the championship.

Fixtures to follow.

Thommo slams ICC

thommo3yy.jpg

Former Australian paceman has hit out at the ICC's attempt to spice up a game which they claim is "Losing the younger fans."

"They ought to get their own house in order rather than worry about the players, the ICC do nothing," Thomson fumed. "They do nothing about blokes chucking, they do nothing about all this other stuff, they are more worried about words, that is all they are, full of words the ICC. They always look like they are doing something but they do nothing. They are the biggest bullshitters in the world. What a waste of space."

"Let the game be for goodness' sake. Cricket used to be an alright game until these clowns tried to change everything. If it aint broke dont fix it."

aussienets7vr.jpg

Ricky Pontings men are waiting in anticipation for there first series in the ICC Best Of The Rest Championship. "It gives the lower ranked teams an oppertunity to play some good cricket against the top nations" said the Australian captain. When asked of what the chances where of the Australians being knocked off there number 1 ranking he replied. "Its up to the other nations to compete with us. There the teams with somthing to prove we've done it all so there wont be any pressure to win on us."

mcgrath5kz.jpg

"Its great to start such a tournament at home." said Australain paceman Glenn Mcgrath. "This series i will be going after Brian Lara. If we keep him quiet the rest of the team will fall like dominos."

windiesarrive0ff.jpg

Obviously you know but part or all of that you took from an actual article written by Thomspon, good thinking
The build up is brilliant as well.

New Zealand Vs South Africa Series Summary

newzealand3ug.jpg
southafrica5rr.jpg

20Twenty Match - Auckland

South Africa won the toss and elected to have a dig on a hard pitch without a cloud in the sky.

2020match5is.jpg

A great game to start the series. 140 just wasnt enough as the Kiwis chansed it down with 2 balls to spare. 51 from Vincent the highlight. Cairns finishes his carrer without playing much part in the match.

Man Of The Match: Lou Vincent

1st One Day International - Christchurch

Smith wins the toss and bats on a dusty pitch. A cool day for cricket

1stodi0hm.jpg

A dissapointing game for the Kiwis whos run chase never really got going. Rudolph the best for South Africa as Vincent was again the stand out he also had some support from Fulton. South Africa bowled well and take a series lead.

Series: SA 1-0
Man Of The Match: Jacques Rudolph

2nd One Day International - Auckland

Overcast skys over Auckland as Fleming won the toss and bowled.

2ndodi5hh.jpg

Having been put into the South Africas made a mockery of the Kiwis rapping up the ODI series with one to play

Series: SA 2-0
Man Of The Match: Graeme Smith

3rd One Day International - Auckland

Another overcast day but given Smiths men have won by batting first in the series so far he does the same again.

3rdodi1ls.jpg

A super aggresive South Africa bowled out very early and yet New Zealand still didnt get the total. A very dissapointing series for the kiwis. Can they
bounce back in the tests.

Series: SA win 3-0
Man Of The Match: Lou Vincent
Man Of The Series: Lou Vincent

1st Test Match - Christchurch

South Africa elect to bat as expected.

1sttest0sg.jpg

No real improvment for New Zealand the highlight was when they forgot how to bat lasting an hour and a half to be bowled out for 67. The Kiwis did better after following on but the damage was already done. An easy 7 wicket win for the Proteas.

Series: SA 1-0
Man Of The Match: Jaques Kallis

2nd Test Match - Auckland

South Africa elect to bowl under overcast skys.

2ndtest8ij.jpg

South Africa win at a jog again a 10 wicket victory sinks any hopes of a Kiwi comeback there playing to take some points away in the last test.

Series: SA 2-0
Man Of The Match: Jaques Kallis

3rd Test Match - Christchurch

3rdtest7xl.jpg

The Kiwis put South Africa in and for once didnt regret it as Bond and Martin flew the flaf for the home team. A first innings 98 from Fleming set New Zealand up for an acheivable run chase in which they won there first game for the series.

Series: SA Win 2-0
Man Of The Match: Stephen Fleming
Man Of The Series: Jaques Kallis

South Africa draw first blood in the ICC Best Of The Rest Championship. They performed well throughout the series and have showed all the other nations that they are one of the contenders. As for New Zealand there is not much to say except that they must bounce back in there next series against Bangladesh.

Ricky Pontings men do battle next against the West Indies the 20Twenty match will kick off the series shortly.

20Twenty Big Bash - The Gabba

Pre Game
The ICC has gone to all length to bring the young fan's to the game they even got Oasis to perform to the 30,000 crowd before the start of the match. With the match set to get underway know one could be certain which West Indies would turn up. The pushovers or the team that plunders attacks to all parts of the ground.

oasis0uv.jpg

The Toss
Shiv Chanderpaul made the right call and batted claiming he "thought it was the right thing to do in these slogathons." As the teams took the feild the lineups showed nothing out of the ordinary. "Not to many worries the boys are just looking to have some fun." said Australian skipper Ricky Ponting.

ontothefeild5yw.jpg

West Indies Innings
No suprises from from Gayle as he went hell for leather early on and it came off. He sent the ball to the picketts more often then not.

early2xs.jpg

After the first 5 overs the windies had raced to no wicket for 41 with Gayle on 26 off 14 and Chanderpaul 12 from 16. Australia need a wicket to peg the Windies back otherwise they could run away with it.

Ponting decided on giving Lee a third over instead of changing it up and it paid dividends when he castled Gayle who thought the slog over cow corner was in order.

gyaleout7wp.jpg

This brought Lara to the crease. Lee ran in to deliver a lightning bolt to Lara knowing that the Australians needed him early. When that first ball was smashed over mid on for a boundary Laras intent was clear.

larain3qd.jpg

Lara targeted every gab in the feild as he blazed away overtaking the score of Chanderpaul and taking the Windies to 1/92 after 10overs.

The introduction of Symonds to the attack finally brought the end of the skipper Chanderpaul who was caught on the fence by Brad Hodge which brought the score to 2/119 in the 12th.

chanderpaulout1rc.jpg

All of Symonds christmases came at once when he castled Lara a few balls later. A well made 60 for the master as he made his way off The Gabba.

laraout2jd.jpg

It wasnt all tea and biscuits for the Australians however as the Windies regrouped and surged to be 5/185 at the close of there 20 overs. A very competitive total on the board that will take chasing under lights.

windiesscore1ta.jpg

Australian Innings
It was going to be a challenge for the Australians to chase such a total under the lights but with Gilchrist and Martyn up the top of the order it was by no means impossible.

theequation1hv.jpg

Wickets fell early and the momentum was never in the favour of the Australians who struggled after losing Martyn, Gilchrist and Hodge in the first 10 overs as the score was a modest 3/73

earlyaussies5mj.jpg

The Australians had to swing the willow to keep in check with the required run rate and as a result lost wickets regularly and where in real trouble and at the 17 over mark it was a big ask.

bigask8vd.jpg

It didnt happen in the end as the Australians where knocked over with a ball to go. It seemed that they struggled to hit boundaries frequently and as a result couldnt challege the West Indies score.

aussiesclose1sf.jpg

"A bit Dissapointing that we didnt get closer to the total but it was just a bit of fun and we'll really be looking forward to getting out on the park ahead of the one day series." said captain Ricky Ponting

The VB One Day International Series

vbseries8jb.jpg

Well the players have had a bit of fun in the 20Twenty match now we get down to business with this two match series sponsored by VB which really is a top drop. This is where the hard work the players have done in the nets pays off and we find out who the best cricketing nation in the world is.

ponting2xx.jpg

"The boy cant wait to get out on the pitch. We've been playing close to our best cricket recently and i think the great thing about that is we dont just have 11 blokes in the country that can win the big matches for us. There are atleased 15 to 18 cricketers in this country that are the real deal and the team and the selectors feel that will help in winning this championship."

chanderpaul3vs.jpg

"We've been to Australia on a number of occasions and the general feeling was normally that we were the underdog that might be able to steal a test match because Australia was having a bad day. Im happy to say that everybody in the dressing room of the West Indies believes that we can win this series. We learned alot from our 20Twenty victory and we will be going into the one day series knowing we can win it."
