Having fun by mocking the chief selector? Ok, I’ll suggest all cricketers start doing it from now on. Don’t get selected? Sarcastically mock at selectors in a public platform. I’d love to see that world when everyone starts doing what Rayudu has done.

I think BCCI has not reacted because lot of people haven’t yet understood the meaning behind that tweet. When the public reacts, this BCCI follows.

Anyways I’ve never liked MSK but his 3D comment on Vijay Shankar was a valid reasoning. And by that tweet, Rayudu also mocked at Shankar’s selection. He can do that? Again love to see the works when everyone does that. Maybe I won’t hopefully be following Indian cricket by then. That kind of a world - I won’t want to be a part of.

I back you for it. The way Rayudu reacted to it isn't accepted at all. He is a responsible and mature person and very well understands what are the consequences for the act that he did so he shouldn't think of making such comments. He has had such problems before as well where a video of him shouting on an old person went viral. Don't know what was the reason for it but he has done something like this for the 2nd time where he is giving a wrong message to the society.

I think this has set a very dangerous precedent. Rayudu should have been handed out a punishment. A ban for 6-12 months at bare minimum. It's totally against the spirit of cricket.

You really think this comment is worth a suspension and cutting off a players livelihood?

A warning would suffice for a first time offender. A show cause notice asking him to explain his action at the max. Calling for a suspension would be incredibly dumb and a classic case of overreacting to a minor act of indiscipline

I don’t think this is his first time of taking jibes. I don’t remember the exact incident when he did this before, but seeing @NilayShah60 comment from above, it looks like there’s someone else also who agrees that it isn’t the first.

And I didn’t ask anywhere to ban him. I said he should be suspended from a few IPL games and get a show cause notice to explain his comments.

P.s: I saw today on a Cricinfo article that BCCI and selectors have termed Rayudu’s comments as ‘emotional’. I laugh at this!

Come on , this is the WORLD CUP time !!!!!! If the case was bilateral series , then he/no one wouldn't even had paid heed .

The BCCI dealt it very nice sympathetic way (the ideal way it should've been) terming it "emotional" .

LOL !!! KL Rahul would be thinking atleast I am in the squad when no one would've believed before the IPL .
And Rayudu was hurt sentimentally after playing again and again .

Does the world even make issue of this hanging by the thread incident too ....... ?

Banning Rayudu for 6 - 12 months for a harmless tweet is a total overreaction.
He didn't mock his appearance, didn't mock his life style or anything of this sorts. He just made a cheeky remark, sure, maybe he shouldn't of said it, but it does not deserve a ban.
Obviously he is disappointed that he wasn't included, a world cup is pinnacle of a cricketers career.[DOUBLEPOST=1555508237][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, where is your guys sense of humor? It was a very funny tweet.

Think people are overreacting to the Rayudu tweet. Think a suspension is a tad overboard. A warning of some sort should be given to Rayudu, it's not like he's done this before. Expressing his disappointment in the form of a cheeky tweet should not line up to an instant suspension or ban of some sort. I think we all take a few things a bit too seriously.

Not sure where this "6-12 months" thing is coming from. But I never said that! I've been the one saying that Rayudu should be suspended a few IPL games while he is given a show cause notice to explain his comments.

Enough added from my side on this topic. Obviously the BCCI have decided not to give any importance to Rayudu's words, which concurs with what a few here have been arguing against me for (nothing personal though; have to put this out as discussions here in recent times are being taken personally and I am not the one doing it).

I'll just put my 2 serious cents out there since I've been playing around on the subject and let me also make it clear that I preferred Shankar over Rayudu in the squad and didn't want Rayudu to be on the plane to England.

This entire fiasco is a failure of the selection committee and the team management. Ambati Rayudu might not have my vote of confidence but he was publicly told that he would not just be playing the World Cup, but batting at 4 in the most sought after cricketing team in the world. And, who made this public announcement? The most powerful bloke in the cricket world today. Ambati Rayudu, as a result, quit four day cricket to prepare for this and focus a year or more of his life and career in the cause for being as best prepared for the Indian cricket team. He has the right to be absolutely livid.

We all have a job and if we're promised a raise and we suddenly find that after sacrificing family time for a year someone else has it, it's going to hurt and most people will express themselves. It's human reaction. The tweet was funny, not at all offensive and if we are going to issue suspensions and notices (by creating a hoopla as the general public) for such trivial matters because it doesn't validate our opinion, then very soon this country will have robots doing day jobs and playing cricket. Humans, are cut out to emote. That's life.

"The spirit of cricket" stuff.. Wolf in sheep clothing. All I'll say.

I never said u asked for a ban either. I said you asked for a suspension and I find that a ridiculous overreaction

He was shouting at an old man as his first offence? Without any proof and context rayudu becomes a repeat offender for you?

If this is worth a suspension from games then i think many other Indian players would top that list for suspensions .. Starting with Kohli and Ashwin. Surely MSD should be suspended for one game for rushing on to the field in anger on that no ball incident? That offence was done on the field and against the match officials.

There is no stopping if you start meting out such harsh and ridiculous punishments for minot incidents

Didn't someone recently say that they are not part of the World Cup team because of demand and supply? And that they're fighting perception? Does that count as questioning the selectors? But I think we should overlook that since the person in question has always followed the spirit of cricket. :lol

Completely agree. From Rayudu's perspective
  • He's received multiple votes of confidence from the captain and management that he would be the number four.
  • Since his inclusion in the ODI setup, he's been good in the Asia Cup and versus the Windies, was decent versus the Black Caps by the numbers. He failed versus Australia twice but the pitches that he played on are probably not gonna be the same in England. Of course, watching the actual games would have shown his struggles versus quality pace and inability to rotate the strike, but purely based on numbers, he would feel harshly done by.
  • The man retired from first class cricket for the sake of preparation, and unlike Dhoni, actually bothered to play domestic matches whenever possible too.
  • He was given 0 chances in T20Is, the format where he actually reinvented himself in the IPL. Surely, at least for the sake of confidence, he should have played a few T20Is in order to find his rhythm? If Dhoni could play T20Is as practice games for the WC this year despite having very less chances of playing the T20 World Cup next year, shouldn't he get the chance too?
  • His replacement in the team was originally supposed to be backup for Pandya, and has played exactly zero games at number 4, with only 9 ODIs in total. India's had 4 years to groom someone for the number four spot since the previous World Cup, and the chosen one is someone who hasn't played a single game at the position he's supposed to be in, and has also batted in the middle order usually for his state team.
All of this 'controversy' could have been avoided if MSK had said that Dhoni or Rahul would be the first option at four with Shankar being in the squad primarily because of Jadhav's questionable fitness record and also due to his ability to rotate the strike well and score boundaries at will in the middle order. Knowing Kohli, I wouldn't be surprised if the primary reason for Rayudu being dropped was because of his poor fielding abilities rather than his ineptitude with the bat.

This is the XI I'd like to see India play at the World Cup

  1. Sharma
  2. Dhawan
  3. Kohli
  4. Dhoni
  5. Jadhav
  6. Shankar/DK
  7. Pandya
  8. Bhuvi
  9. Kuldeep
  10. Chahal
  11. Bumrah
If DK regains confidence and form, I'd select him ahead of Shankar due to his ability to finish games well. I'd have Bhuvi in the team ahead of Shami if KulCha plays, due to him being the only reliable bat in the tail. If one of the spinners are dropped for Jadeja however, I wouldn't mind having Shami in the team.

And now there's rumours that Malinga's going to completely retire from international duty due to him being sacked as the captain. Way to go Sri Lankan Cricket Board, you really outdid yourself this time. :clap:facepalm
