Two things I'll say- Malik will make runs, and he will make crucial runs. Hafeez is the most underrated off spinner of all time. I worry more about his batting. He is a slow coach and he overthinks everything. I'm not sure about Wasim at 6. I know Ali has been inconsistent, but boy that man has talent. He's their best chance. I don't see one good hitter otherwise.

Sarfraz has been batting at 6 for Pakistan usually, with Wasim at 7. I still disagree with Asif Ali at 6 and when their coach feels the same, I don't think Asif deserves a spot in the XI. I'd back Wasim to provide that quick boost to an innings if needed. His numbers are pretty good too.

My question - how did Navdeep Saini become the first and the only standby for the India WC squad? What gives him that spot over people like Khaleel and Chahar? Saini has not even played for India yet. Khaleel has been playing for India and even Chahar has debuted already.

Didn't they also plan take the likes of Avesh Khan, Chahar and Khaleel along with Saini? If Saini's going to be the first choice standby, that would be a really massive blunder.

The only players who are put on official standby by the BCCI are: Ambati Rayudu, Rishabh Pant and Navdeep Saini.

This means - Saini is the first choice standby if a pacer gets injured. Khaleel, Chahar and Avesh Khan (along with Saini) are traveling to England with the team to give net practice, but Saini is the only OFFICIAL standby.

That is absolutely shocking. Khaleel should have been first in line for a standby, he was pretty decent in most games quite honestly.

I’ve seen Asif Ali constantly hyped up on these forums. Is he really that good? The only time I’ve seen him play was in the Asia Cup where he was absolutely clueless. Plus, his domestic stats are quite poor, barring that strike rate. He seems to be a good T20 player, but that doesn’t automatically translate into good ODI form as shown by the likes of Munro. And he doesn’t seem to be a part time bowler either. Is it worth having a pure slogger down at 7 who can’t bowl, which might mean that Malik and Hafeez would have to bowl 10 overs between them?

It comes down to the same old question for Pakistan that has been raised over the last 5-8 years. How do we chase/put up a 300+ score?

India has - Kedar Jadhav, Hardik Pandya etc. for that late burst at the end to propel you to 300 and help you with those quick runs in the end.
Australia - Ashton Turner, Glenn Maxwell, Stoinis
England - Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali

Pakistan - we have no one. Shoaib Malik is a shadow of his best. Currently, on a good day - he will give us a 50 in an easy game at run a ball. Sarfaraz can't clear the boundary to save his life. Faheem Ashraf has failed every time we have given him an opportunity. The last name is Asif Ali - over the last couple of seasons of PSL; he has performed quality finished for Islamabad, even in the South African T20 league he played a decent inning. So at the end of the day, he becomes a strong option when we have no others.

I agree, he is just like Afridi expect Afridi was a good bowler as well, if he was a all rounder then I would have pick him but to be honest he is just decent batsman at best

All Pakistan got is good bowlers, we need a world class Batsman like Inzamam, Mohammed Yousuf, Saeed Anwar etc I think Pakistan need to start producing Batsman as we have none.

I feel like Pakistan has better Test Batsman who can play swing bowling better than most of the Countries do. In One-day they don't have batsman who can accelerate the scoring rate

Well they are ranked 7th in Test so I can't really agree with that lol.
We have Fakhar Zaman who can score fast but I think he is out of form, we could do with someone with the likes of Rohit Sharma as a opener.

Shadab Khan out of Pak-Eng series due to illness. Four weeks to recover and if he does he'll be in CWC. Yasir Shah to replace him in England Series

Ranking doesn't have to do anything with it. Pakistan is the only team who have drawn 2 consecutive series in England which many haven't been able to do which is a perfect example of that. And the good thing is their batsman actually scored runs while we look at team like Australia who got bowled out on 67 in last Ashes or the no.1 Test team India who unnecessarily play defensive Cricket and always make the bowlers of the opposition feel like they are in the game and finally get them out in the process

It's good to see that all our players of 15-men squad including the backups are in good form and fitness. World Cup would be a hell of tournament this year. :yes

Wasim’s excellent knock in the game vs Kent should pretty much mean that he’s a lock for the number 7 spot, if he wasn’t already. Could be one of the surprise packages of the World Cup in this form!
