This is exactly the way how we can define Rohit Sharma's ODI career. It's a career full of glory and extreme disapointments. When he plays well his abilities are unmatched but when he doesn't he seems like a very average batsman. In this format and this generation you need to back players like him time and again to get the best out of a team's top-order. Much credit should go to Shikhar Dhawan, the way he complements Rohit is just brilliant. Skill-wise they don't even come close to the pair of Sachin & Sehwag but consistency wise they are right up there !!!

Has anyone been following India A's matches versus Sri Lanka A? We've been pretty dominant versus a team that has been playing the likes of Dickwella, Dananjaya, Shanaka and Kamindu Mendis all of who have a fair chance to be in their main team. I'm really surprised that Gaikwad didn't make a single appearance for CSK over the last two years, given how poor the openers were this season. He's got some solid domestic stats and struck back to back centuries versus this decent bowling attack at a strike rate that wouldn't look out of place in a T20. Could be a future opener for the main team if he continues this.

Yuvraj Singh retires

He did well for us over the years and it's hard to forget his contributions towards Indian Cricket be it his innings at Lord's that won us the NatWest Finals, his partnership with MS Dhoni against Pakistan at Karachi back in 2006, scoring a 100 despite a back injury against England back in 2008, 2007 WT20 especially the innings against Australia in the Semi-final and six sixes ofcourse and the greatest of all his performance in the 2011 WC. He was truly a great player who at times failed to live upto his potential and when he actually realised his true potential his life was changed as he became a Cancer patient. He survived the Cancer and came back to the team but he never ever looked a player he was before. Back in 2017 it seemed that we've got our old Yuvi back it turned out to be just a hope and never really he was able to hold on to the spot in the team. Honestly speaking I can be a bit harsh over here but he hasn't got anything now to be a worthy player in any sort of Cricket team and it is good that he himself realised it and that actually justifies his greatness as a player. It's time that we bid farewell to him. Hope he also takes a call from his IPL career, instead of being unsold in the auction it's better that he even retires from IPL Cricket and leaves the game as a great player. He was truly an inspiration for the generation to follow.

Congrats to him for such a wonderful career. :cheers

Edit: He retired from IPL as well. I think it was a very good decision

He should have retired two years ago in my opinion. However, he is definitely India's biggest match-winner in limited overs cricket. A fighter of a cricketer and the main reason why we won that 2011 WC.

Very fair points made. Your speaking was just smooth flowing and you seemed very confident. You were right on to the point for everything you said and seemed to be pretty sure what you wanted to say. Your knowledge regarding the game is very good. You'll go a long way ahead with these videos. You've probably earned a subscriber. Really good work, KIU !!!!

The team that is being selected will not go far the semis is my earliest WC prediction they can even have a 1st round exit as well. The first four matches are crucial - vs SA , Australia, NZ and Pak respectively within 11 days could very well decide our fate as well.

Coming to the squad too many bits and pieces players in the middle order - Shankar, Jadeja (If makes the 11) ,Pandya even Jadhav don't give the assurity with the bat when batting under pressure. The over reliance on top 3 will be exposed once again and middle order will have to pull up their socks (whoever bats around Dhoni). So in a scenario of say 50 - 3 or worse the nucleus of the team revolves around Dhoni and how well the others bat Shankar, Karthik , Jadhav etc.

The bowling lineup is good with Bumrah and Shami surely the first two picks especially the way the latter has been performing and both the wrist spinners have to be in the playing 11 as the pitches are mostly likely to be belters so need wickets in the middle overs and a bit of Jadhav as well and Pandya the 3rd seamer.
OR
Have Bhuvi in the squad for Chahal and let him swing the new ball alongside Bumrah and bowl Shami in the middle overs - this is where the difference really will be......teams who can pick wickets in the 15 - 40 overs are most likely to win matches.

Also the two warmup games before the actual tournament will be pivotal before playing the final XI.
Lol How right was I! The team did not make past the semis.

Top order collapsed it was 6 for 3 though.

And ah bits and pieces was started by me lol which Jadeja did manage to prove me and Sanju Manju wrong.

Lastly batting under pressure no one seems to give assurity.

And frankly, my opinion is that only the winner matters. May be, a little the runner up trophy. 3/4/5/10, really doesn't matter to me.

I am not one of the people who will say India deserved it, because we choked when the opportunity presented itself. Australia should be very proud of their comeback. They have once again shows us how they are one of the mentally toughest sides.

England have played the best limited overs cricket for the last 4 years and would be deserving champions in my opinion but there's something extremely luring about Kane and Boult which will make me very torn about Sunday. I also have a huge soft spot for Jos and Ben. So..weird Sunday awaits.[DOUBLEPOST=1562873196][/DOUBLEPOST]I want to ask @aditya123 @abhi_jacko @SaiSrini @Bigby Wolf @Bevab @Naman Thakur and most other regs here-

Where to from here for India? How strong do you think are the chances of us being blessed with a new skipper and coach? We know for a fact that we have lost countless series which we should have won with the right approach! Kohli still too powerful?
Moving this WC thread lets not spam it by our never Indian cricket discussion.

I feel its about altering Kohli's ego now atleast in T20Is give the captaincy to Rohit Sharma considering we have already won two T20I tournament (Nidahas & Asia Cup - 50 overs) and his outstanding IPL record winning 4 in the last 7 years.Taken the burden off him and let him play the T20I cricket as a batsmen only.

But having said that if Shastri remains incharge for the year atleast till the WT20 don't see that happening either.Expecting personnel changes only after that tournament and there is a slight possibility that Dhoni might continue to play the T20I till the WT20 next year if the Shastri - Kohli duo remains incharge.

I would love to see some India A players getting longer in the main setup - whoever it is (Gill,Shaw,Iyer,Agarawal,Khaleel and so on.....) gets a longer run and make them face the heat at earliest as possible sacrifice your position for a series or two just like Ganguly did with the team in the last decade back or what Dhoni did with the likes of Kohli, Rohit ,Raina ,Jadeja etc.

Its high time to move on from players like Kedar Jadhav & Dinesh Karthik and give the young guns a chance at the big stage. Also would love to see a another leggie tried instead of Chahal or Kuldeep .i.e Shreyas Gopal - a player who had a phenomenal domestic season (Ranji, Syed Mushtaq Ali) followed by a very good stint at the IPL or even Markande or Rahul Chahar are options to have among the ranks.

I am actually excited about the next crop of players as their hugely talented players coming which are look after by none other then Rahul Dravid and if we have a sane management at the highest level we could have a very great future ahead.

Our top order in ODI's has been really good since the champions trophy 2013. We have had at least one of Dhawan, Rohit and Kohli scoring a century or most of the runs in the ODI's. This means that our middle order doesn't get as much time in the middle as they normally would in any other team. Our top 3 are usually making 70% of our runs so most of the time when someone from middle order comes in, they are usually coming in when the foundation is set and we are 30-35 or even 40 over mark sometimes. So all they have to do is either give the strike to one of the set batsmen from top 3 or go after bowlers from ball 1.

This idea gets exposed when we our top order or top 3 all gets out cheaply. Again, this happens very rarely for India but when it does happen, middle order batsmen are under huge pressure. First, they are just not accustom to the situation because it doesn't happen very often. Now they have to play a role which they haven't played before which is to to anchor the inning or set the foundation again for the lower order to come and finish off at the end. Unfortunately for us, this usually happens in a knockout game when the pressure is at the highest level. So in most situations, the middle order will crumble simply because they haven't had enough match time to perform that role. I will go back again to the point I made in the WC thread about Kedar Jadhav. He did absolutely nothing wrong and was still dropped for DK who did nothing in the matches he played. I can't blame Kedar or DK in this situation because none of them knew exactly what the team management wanted from them. I still feel bad for Jadhav especially who I think could have been the ideal finisher for India but now his career with India is over.

Also, It's time to move on from Dhoni. I have been probably the biggest Dhoni fan on this forum but his batting style just puts too much pressure on the batsman at the non-striker end. I will admit, the day I don't see that name at number 5 or number 6 in the Indian ODI line-up, it will take some time for me to process that. Again, we do't have a replacement in terms of wicket keeping/tactical knowledge that Dhoni brought into the team but his batting is just not the same anymore and now is the right time to move on build for the next WC. I do like Pant but he has to learn how to bat according to the situation. The shot that he played in the semi-final was probably one of the worse shot that I have even seen for a batsman who had played so wonderfully thus far. His keeping is not that ideal as well but he needs to be given a consistent go if we are looking at him as the keeper for 2023 WC.

I don't see Jadhav, DK and Dhoni returning in ODI's for India. Rohit will be 36 and Dhawan will be 37 by 2023 WC and I am not sure if they will be there or not but if they maintain their record, I don't have any problem with them playing. Few new names that might come up now are likely to be Gill, Manish Pandey and Iyer. Again, the bench strength we have is tremendous but it's just about grooming these guys and giving them a consistent chance so they can actually show what they have got.

Even though it is unlikely, I really don't want to see Shastri back as the Indian team coach. I really like what Bharat Arun(bowling coach) has done with this team and I know that Shastri is the one who brought him but I really wish we can keep Arun and get rid of Shastri and Sridhar. Please hire Tom Moody as soon as possible as the head coach.

Here it starts!

It seems like there is a 'Virat Kohli' group and a 'Rohit Sharma' group within the team. And the unhappiness over Ravi Shastri sounded so so so good.
That's Pakistan-ish. Agree on the selection bias tbh, seeing Shami left out after performing so well, but Bhuvi ain't bad to make it a strong case.

Sharma group and Kohli group sounds shocking, as far as they show on screen, they seem to be good friends.

I personally hope to see the duo of coaches being sacked for people like Zak to come in.

Don't term it that way but I hope we don't become an anti muslim team with the government taking over, literally it would sound cheap.
