India is going to tour Australia between 27th November 2020 & 19 January 2021. Kevin Roberts, The CEO of Cricket Australia had said in August 2020 that the chances of this tour taking place is 9/10. There would be no crowd involvement in this series to a major extent.

@NilayShah60

The first two ODIs on November 27 and 29 are set to be played at the SCG, the third ODI on December 1 and the first T20I on December 4 will take place at Canberra's Manuka Oval, before the teams return to Sydney for the final two T20Is at the SCG on December 6 and 8.

A pink-ball Test is scheduled to be held at Adelaide Oval between December 17-21, with Adelaide also the backup option for the Boxing Day Test should the Covid-19 situation not allow it to be held at the MCG. Otherwise Melbourne will be the venue for Boxing Day (December 26-30) followed by Tests in Sydney (January 7-11) and finally Brisbane (January 15-19).

It will be interesting to see how India play the D/N test.

It isn't confirmed yet. Different sources have mentioned different things. Cricinfo still shows the old schedule while the one I posted in this thread is from Wikipedia.

Edit: So I went back and noticed the schedule is changed on Wikipedia

Few things that I have noticed by looking at the squads announced.

Varun Chakravarthy: I was thinking Akshar and Ashwin might be ahead of him considering their experience and how well they have generally bowled in this IPL. So definitely a little surprised at Varun's inclusion. Yes, he has mystery but sending him on a tour to Australia where it is tough for spinners to bowl is a gamble.

Rishabh Pant: A serious demotion for Pant as he is not there in the limited over squad at all. As I said when IPL started, Rahul knew exactly what he was doing by taking the gloves. He has pushed Pant out of the team. Sanju has the same old inconsistent IPL where he starts really well but then his form dips. So it is an interesting selection. I guess Pant hasn't helped himself by playing completely different from how he normally plays and has struggled with the keeping as well.

Rohit Sharma: I didn't know Rohit's injury is this serious. I thought he was coming back for the playoffs in the IPL but I guess I was wrong. However, now if I see him play for MI, it will be ridiculous. Get him ready for the Australia tour, we need him for that. We don't need him playing in IPL.

Suryakumar Yadav: I think the selectors and management are looking at Manish Pandey for the finisher role now. I wouldn't have minded seeing someone like Surya in the squad considering he has been kind of consistent through the past few IPL seasons now.

Ishant Sharma: I am really hoping he is fit for this tour considering how well he has bowled in the last 2 years. Also, he is our most experienced bowler and has bowled in Australia quite a lot.

I really don’t understand how good Axar has to perform to come back into the side..

Some of my thoughts on these selections.

  • Wow, Pant has been completely dropped. I don't buy the 'he was excluded on fitness grounds, the team physio said he was overweight' because in that case why has he been selected in the one format that asks the most of your fitness? Has he had the best IPL? Most likely no, in comparison to his two previous seasons that were excellent. However, I don't really see why he has been completely axed. He has failed to convert most of his starts but he has played in a very un-Pant like way and isn't that what the management asked of him, to play responsibly? His last international games in white ball cricket were not the worst either prior to being concussed. Just what metric is he being judged by? He plays more responsibly now and with two hitters to follow in his IPL side, it does make sense in one way. At this point, I think Pant has to block the external noise and play the way he always did because the team management isn't doing him any favours. Feel like his fitness is impacting his balance on those leg-side shots a bit which might be an area to work on.
  • Sanju Samson is in the squad again. I've made my thoughts clear on him but his current level of output isn't drastically different from what he did in previous seasons. Why elevate him to the number two spot in the T20I keeping ladder for him when he has been stagnating? He still looks unbeatable on his day and plays braindead shots on most other days. To be clear, I'm not against his selection. But where does the management see him playing? Most of his career and his best performances have come when he comes in to bat as a top three batsman (or when a top three batsman is supposed to come in). With Rohit being absent as of now, does that mean the Indian side see him as a backup for Rahul and nothing more as a top three option? I don't see him being useful in at five or six, he isn't the type of batsman who can come in and hit the big shots right away against a bunch of pacers about to begin their death spells or spinners about to finish their quota.
  • Only one keeper in the ODI squad? That is a bold call, especially when arguably India's best List A keeper and an India 'A' regular is yet to make an appearance in ODIs. Ishan Kishan's last three scores for India A read 71, 44 and 14. He isn't a gung-ho player in ODIs too and has heaps of experience at number five and finally seems to be performing well in the IPL too which made this the ideal time to give him a game or two.
  • Chakravarthy's selection seems to be a case of 'strike the iron while it is hot'. Mystery spinners supposedly do not have a long shelf life and is he being picked after his good form to see how long he lasts in international cricket? I do think he has been quality this season but he really does not strike me as a long-term option. We have tried a number of spinners in recent times with Markande and Chahar previously, doesn't hurt to try the newest attraction.
  • No Axar? Even after being so good this season? Jadeja's previous form in T20Is might have saved his spot for now but he needs to work hard to retain it when both Tewatia and Axar have impressed this season.
  • Surprised by the lack of Ashwin in the T20I squad, thought it would have been worth giving him a try.
  • Thakur in ODIs is a really bad selection, even as a backup. Dhawal Kulkarni was a better bowler for Mumbai last year in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, heck even the likes of Kaul, Sandeep Sharma and Unadkat were better for their respective sides. The type of bowling he offers works in T20s to an extent as batsmen are forced to hit him which is why he picks up wickets. In ODIs a batsman can afford to wait for his bad ball which is inevitable and milk him for boundaries. Why not try someone like Porel who had a good season last year, has been a regular in the A Team and has shown visible improvement in addition to the boundless potential he has?
  • Pandey in T20Is is fine given that he has played decently in a new role but I would have liked to see someone up there as competition for him. Again, I don't think the likes of Shreyas and Samson should be competing with him as they play different roles.
  • SKY could feel hard done by, he had a very good season for Mumbai last year in that number five role in List A cricket and could have been worth a shot in that position for India with Rahul opening in the absence of Rohit. Pandey was excellent for Karnataka though and as the trophy winning captain and someone who was unfairly axed previously, he deserves another chance.
  • Don't really understand Rahul's selection in test cricket. He was a colossal failure the last time we toured Australia and looked like a walking wicket. I haven't seen any notable changes to his technique or the way he plays to justify his re-introduction to the squad, Hazlewood is most definitely going to love seeing him there again. Shaw's technique versus the short ball does not look too good either unfortunately but I still have some hope that he approaches tests in a different manner compared to T20s. It also doesn't bode well when someone who barely played any domestic cricket (just one semi-final which he also did not do well in) and hasn't played for the A Team either can waltz back in after failing badly in the same country. Said the same for Rohit and the same logic applies to Rahul. Ironically, Rohit may have been worth trying as an opener in Australia if he had the temperament to play as one.
  • No other real surprises stick out to me, pleased to see Siraj finally get a deserved chance and I hope he plays one game at the very least. Gill could be another option for the opening role and Shami needs to be more consistent if we are to have a serious chance in the absence of Ishant.

Pandya can't bowl 10 overs in all matches so we definitely need a 6th bowler.

I would suggest this lineup -

Mayank Agarwal
Shikhar Dhawan
Virat Kohli
Shreyas Iyer
KL Rahul
Hardik Pandya
Ravindra Jadeja
Navdeep Saini/Deepak Chahar
Jasprit Bumrah
Mohammad Shami

Will be interesting if Australia take an early punt on Cameron Green for this series. For the uninitiated, he is everything that Australia keep hoping for in Mitch Marsh. The mythical pace bowling all-rounder who can ensure the frontline quicks take a break who is also capable of batting in the top seven. Up until he stopped bowling in the Shield due to lower back concerns, he had an incredible record averaging close to 20 with the ball. Ever since he stopped bowling and started playing as a specialist batsman, he has been averaging above 60 with the bat. Pretty nuts when you have a player who can make it into your side as either a bowler or a batsman. And he is rumoured to resume bowling soon, very possibly in the next round of Shield matches.

Those numbers do look bad on the outside but a lot of his innings in T20s were too short for one. Shreyas and him have played more or less in the same spots and Shreyas on average faced 4 balls more per innings. It is true that Pant does gift his wicket sometimes but the context is that in nearly every game he has played he has been questioned pre-game, post-game and sometimes mid-game too. I don't think I've ever seen a stadium openly boo one of their own players in the middle of an unfinished game (Watto in the World Cup final is the only one I can remember from recent memory and it was disgraceful then too) and chant the name of the player he was standing in for and supposed to replace (this is entirely new to me). From his perspective he shall have only himself to blame but I really don't think it is that simple. I've never seen a country's own fanbase be so toxic to a player who clearly has potential to this extent just because he was supposedly challenging a media and fan favourite who was himself not in the best of form (Dhoni's huge average is pointless to me when he strikes at 83, that is shocking for a middle order 'finisher' in modern ODIs).

This is without considering his huge success in the previous IPLs. Or the fact that the Indian side have given countless opportunities to other players on the basis of their potential and domestic records after repeated international failures (the man who averages the most on your ODI list had a batting average of 31 odd after 80 ODIs at one point). I think this article explains why it is worth persisting with him better than I ever can.

Dettol One Day Internationals. :lol
That does sound so funny! I am excited to see us go to Aussie again and play. ALthough we won last time, with Warner, Smith back, it will be different this time around. Btw why are we playing twice in Australia? Did I miss something? Have Australia visited us after the last encounter?
