Disappointed that Dinesh Karthik has not done himself any favors with a failure in the first innings vs Afghanistan today. Hope he gets a second chance and hope he makes it count. In order for him to outdo Saha, who is the best wicketkeeper when it comes to behind the stumps, Karthik need to show stability in his keeping and get some really solid runs with the bat.

Impressive that Rahul scored runs at No. 3 today! It's a big warning sign for Pujara that if he does not score runs in England, Rahul can take the No. 3 spot and India play all 3 of Vijay, Dhawan and Rahul in the XI.

I think this should be the Test squad for India :ind: in the Test Series against England :eng:

Murali Vijay :bat:
Shikhar Dhawan :bat:
KL Rahul :wkb:
Ajinkya Rahane :bat:
Virat Kohli :c::bat:
Cheteshwar Pujara :bat:
Karun Nair :bat:
Rohit Sharma :bat:
Hardik Pandya :ar:
Ravindra Jadeja :ar:
Dinesh Karthik :wk:
Wriddhiman Saha :wk:
Kuldeep Yadav :bwl:
Ravichandran Ashwin :ar:
Bhuvneshwar Kumar :bwl:
Mohd Shami :bwl: (if he is fit)
Jasprit Bumrah :bwl:
Umesh Yadav :bwl:
Ishant Sharma :bwl:

If Shami is unfit I would rather like the selectors to go for Navdeep Saini

I doubt if India will be allowed to send 19-20 players with their squad. Rohit Sharma has no place in the test squad for now. He is just not cut out for it. Especially with the likes of Rahul, Nair, Rayudu in the mix waiting to impress. Three spinners is a luxury for a place like England. I definitely want Kuldeep in the squad but it has to be at the expense of either Ashwin or Jadeja, both of whom have done well against Afghanistan. I would actually keep Ashwin/Jadeja and forsake Kuldeep who can wait for either of these two to fail.

I agree with your "Saini for Shami" comment where if Shami is unfit, Saini comes in.

Removing Rohit and Kuldeep from your above squad, makes it the ideal squad for the England tour.

We did had 19 players for our last tour...... Just in case if more are required...... I agree that Rohit doesn't fit into the Test squad but Kuldeep should get more chances.... As far as I remember he won us Test Series against Australia at home so there isn't a problem if you try him out

What a massive lease of life for Suresh Raina! He has replaced Ambati Rayudu, who failed the Yo-Yo test and has to be dropped for the England ODI's
http://www.bcci.tv/news/2018/press-...-to-replace-ambati-rayudu-in-indias-odi-squad

If Raina does not grab this opportunity by the bull, maybe he should resign himself to finish out the rest of his career in IPL and domestic cricket. He is truly a guy who has worked very hard on his fitness. Now he just needs to get his batting right. And I hope he is not played at No. 3. He should bat at No. 5 or 6 in ODI's. I am genuinely excited now and hope Raina grabs this with both hands!

Although Raydu averages 50 in one day cricket, I personally did not like him in blues. His strike rate is beyond mediocre and is in 70’s which in modern era is considered shit. We criticize Rahane so much for playing slow but Raydu is in same boat. His IPL form should not be the only factor that we should consider. I am actually happy to see Raina play.

I doubt if Raina will get enough games. After Kohli and Dhoni who are unshakeable, Rohit and Dhawan are certainties. You have two more slots for a specialist batsman. And you have KL Rahul, Dinesh Karthik and Suresh Raina fighting for two spots. On form, KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik are front runners to take up those 2 spots. Unless Kohli thinks Karthik is a luxury and that a left hander in the middle order will be useful for variety.

Raina has better chance in T20's

The Yo-Yo test has come under criticism after Samson, Shami and now Rayudu have missed the bus because of it. To be frank, I am no Kohli fan, but I think this drive towards top fitness is the right move and at the right time for Indian cricket. In a country of a billion people, you cant find a player with the same amount of skills and yet maintains top fitness? Yes Rayudu and Samson are highly skilled but if they did not give their fitness priority, who is to blame? Rayudu had enough break after the IPL final and the Yo-Yo test. Samson is a young bloke and yet he failed. Who's to blame? The players. Maybe things like this will shake up players in the system to give fitness serious thought.

Raina failed it once, and since then, he has worked tremendously hard on his fitness (he even posts lot of videos of his fitness drills) to be able to pass it now. People can work on themselves to get up there. Of all Kohli's issues, I think on fitness, Kohli has the right standards set for the team.

Completely agree, Fitness should be taken very seriously especially in sports. With a fit team we can save that extra 20-30 runs in the field. I myself am not fit so its a bit hypocritical from me to say this but as a sportsperson you have to be fit. Raydu and Shami to be honest looked bloated.

Guess, the number injuries and being benched again and again has affected Shami, who is still of the fastest and most accurate test bowler of our country. Hope he clears it up soon and get back in for England. India without Shami in England would be boring. Yeah, Yadav is quick, Bhuvi has swing but Shami when on song is a treat to watch.

Btw, I got SonyLIV for Re 1/- for one year, thanks to an offer. Also have JioTV but with this it'll be a nicer option to watch the games on an a big screen.

I really wanted to see this pace quatret in England- Shami, Bhuvi, Umesh and Ishant. Would have been just amazing to see them get the ball to talk in those conditions. I personally still don’t trust Bumrah for Tests, but as we know Kohli, Bumrah is an ultimate surety.

Bumrah is a good backup and should be in the squad since other seamers are not yet ready to take on tough challenges. But I would always start with Bhuvi-Umesh-Ishant as the first options.
