Mate , i dont think you picked Vijay who scored 2 centuries against the Aussies and Unadkat made his debut on the last tour to South Africa and dint have a debut which he'll sure want to forget and Rahane looks very susceptible to the shorter stuff so i'll go with Rohit for the number 5 spot
so my team will look like :
Dhawan
Vijay
Pujara
Sachin
Rohit
Kohli
Dhoni
Jaddu
Ash
Bhuvi
Yadav
you may wonder why i went with 2 spinners but South African are very susceptible to spin even in home conditions as Herath proved in 2011 . and everyone other than Umesh can hold a bat

To think that India will win 3-0 against the world's number one side in their own backyard (more so when our overseas record in recent times has been grossly pathetic) is a HUGE HUGE optimism, which can even be called "dreams in the realm of fantasy".

Sehwag as reserve opener and Pujara as regular opener? Are you outta your mind? Vijay has to be the 2nd opener after Dhawan. Vijay has scored two hundreds very recently against Australia, and we haven't played almost any tests after that series. Pujara can be makeshift opener in case any one of Dhawan or Vijay is injured. That way, Kohli can bat at No.3

----------

Our squad will most probably be like this:

M Vijay, S Dhawan, D Karthik, C Pujara, V Kohli, S Tendulkar, M Dhoni, R Sharma, A Rahane/A Rayudu, R Jadeja, R Ashwin, U Yadav, B Kumar, I Sharma, S Ahmed, J Unadkat/Zaheer

I definitely see Rohit Sharma in there after his good performances in recent times with the ODI side. Also the non-inclusion of Gambhir and the inclusion of Karthik in the India-A tour gives me the feeling that the selectors might not be looking at Gambhir as backup opener, but at Karthik both as backup opener and backup keeper. Karthik has opened for India before in tests in England, and can do it again.

If we go in with 16 players, I would add an extra batsman to the squad that I had posted above (sometime back in this thread). Most probably would be either Rahane or Rayudu.

And if Zaheer recovers well and gets good match fitness under his belt, then he can probably replace Unadkat. I don't see Aaron recover so quickly and also being given a chance so quickly without much experience. So Shami is the best option.

In my squad I have added him :wave

----------

i dont think you picked Vijay who scored 2 centuries against the Aussies

Vijay fails to score in overseas countries.Mostly he can score on spin pitches. So I don't think Vijay is suitable for South African conditions ;)

Rahane looks very susceptible to the shorter stuff so i'll go with Rohit for the number 5 spot

Rahane or Rohit is not an issue. Both has great first class records. But Rahane is waited since a long time to make his place in playing XI.

you may wonder why i went with 2 spinners but South African are very susceptible to spin even in home conditions as Herath proved in 2011 . and everyone other than Umesh can hold a bat

See my squad again. You will find there two specialist spinners.I already included two spinners there ;)

----------

To think that India will win 3-0 against the world's number one side in their own backyard

Everything is possible on this earth.I know South Africans will play in there home conditions, so they have many chances. Now days India is in a great form.By resting some IMP players and by learning overseas situations the away conditions can be changed in home.So I think by working hard in South African situations for 1 or 2 months (We can send there some IMP players.....And BCCI has a lot of money so they can spend money for 2 months if they want to win it) its possible.

Vijay has to be the 2nd opener after Dhawan.

I have replied for a similar sentence above.

Sehwag as reserve opener and Pujara as regular opener? Are you outta your mind?

Pujara can handle swinging deliveries easily. But about Sehwag, now days he has problem with his eyes.I don't think with glasses will everything clear for Sehwag. If Sehwag want make his place in team then he need to play at least 5 first class matches. He should prove himself.I'm too a big fan of Sehwag but I'm telling truth.

Tendulkar will play another series? Aren't you fed up of THE GOD. I mean I want to see someone new. Tendulkar has established his name in the world, he should give the youngsters a try.

He should play this one series and then retire. Nothing wrong in him playing this series. Let the transition be smooth.

He about to play 200 matches in test cricket and he will try to make that tournament special. That will be memorable retirement for him.And I know the true reason of why you are thinking against Tendulkar ;)

He's a basic selfish cricketer. Never liked him and never would, I don't know how people have compared him against Brian Lara, he was just class Tendulkar is no where near.

Agreed. The guy is obsessed with records, funny enough he has never scored a triple century, not even able to get past 250 and still people have the audacity to compare him against a great like Lara!

What he has achieved in cricket, any average batsman can, provided theyre as selfish as he is to keep on playing for xxx amount of years!

I hope he fails in SA, guys like Steyn and Morkel are going to rip him apart.

On a side note I dont think they should play Philander, too slow the Indian batsmen may feed off him.

Lara is a great player . Agreed. But don't say that Sachin is no where near him.
