Dhoni has hardly bowled in international games, and you say that we should test out his bowling skills by playing a secondary keeper, that too in a Word Cup game? That sounds ridiculous to be brutally honest!

No way lol, I never said he should be tried in World cup, I meant he has decent pace and if we had equally good 2nd keeper, he could have bowled more and would have been handy.

Why do you guys need an additional medium pacer when you have 4 bowlers? On Indian wickets, our pacers have enough chances of getting hit. Its good that we have more spin part timers than medium pace part timers.

I don't know what you're up to, but if that has to happen, we need to have an extra keeper (who would be replacing a proper batsman) in the playing XI. All this, just to allow Dhoni to bowl and that too in a 'World Cup' match?!

A medium pace part-timer/allrounder allows you to play with just 2 fast bowlers and rest specialist spinners, if the pitch condns demand so. SL has that advantage, for India it would be a bigger gamble.

Really puzzled with Chawla's pick. We have an overload of spinners! Harbhajan, Ashwin are enough plus Yusuf is 3 on any given ODI. I would have gone for Sreesanth or the extra batsman in Robin Uthappa. I know, I know he wasn't in the 30 man squad but cmon, he is such a good hitter and can be a backup keeper!!

I guess i'll take it... team will look a bit like
1. Sachin Tendulkar
2. Virender Sehwag
3. Gautam Gambhir
4. Virat Kohli
5. Yuvraj Singh
6. MS Dhoni
7. Suresh Raina/Yusuf Pathan
8. Harbhajan Singh
9. Zaheer Khan
10. Praveen Kumar/R Ashwin
11. Ashish Nehra

Meh. Lack of a pace bowling allrounder yet again is the problem for India.

I'm just shell shocked at people wanting Dhoni to bowl. As ridiculous as that topic, 'Sachin could have been a better bowler than Warne' or something along those lines.

Good job by the selectors.
It's pretty difficult to choose a better squad from the available resources.
Rohit Shaaama had his chances and didn't grab them with both hands. It must have been a choice between him and Yuvraj and UV's experience probably shifted the balance in his favour.
Zaheer,Nehra,PK and Munaf are the best seamers available,so their selection is also fair enough.
The only thing debatable is whether an extra batsman/wk could have been picked instead of Chawla, given that we're playing only 4 specialist bowlers these days.

Picture perfect!

In my opinion, Ojha should have been in for Piyush Chawla!
Viru and Sachin will be starting the legendary Indian line up. The middle order is pretty strong, with the likes of Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli & MS Dhoni. The lower middle order looks like a bomb, which can blast at batting power plays and the overs after it (slog overs, in brief), with the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh & Praveen Kumar. The tail has slim chances of getting to bat! Its undoubted that Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehera, Munaf and Praveen Kumar will be the front line bowlers, who WILL have to perform at any cost. Bhajji and Ashwin should look after the spin department!
My XI: Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Praveen Kumar, R Ashwin, Zaheer Khan! (Everyone can bat)

Ya you noticed something superb. This tail can easily contribute 50-80 runs if the batsmen fail.

i guess a lot of you are happy because they have chucked jadeja, ishant and rohit and picked ashwin.

looks a pretty decent team. still might have taken rohit if I was an indian selector because he's a half decent part-time bowler. I think chawla is the lucky one.

This should be the playing XI, IMO.

Solid, although not great bowling, but the batting will carry the team. It would be nearly impossible to bowl this team out with the tail being able to bat like they can.

The bowling may seem weak, but 40 overs from sepcialists and 10 overs from part-timers is fine. We just have to make sure we give 8 of the first 16 overs to Praveen because he is basically useless when the ball becomes old.

Piyush is not outrageously bad. In fact he was pencilled in to be the next big spinner for India with the kind of turn he gets and the way he grabs wickets. He didnt click big when he played for India but that could be because he was inducted too early. He could still grab his chance and make his mark. He has developed his batting to be a skill that could get him these sorts of lucky breaks. I am not disappointed with his selection, to be honest. I am waiting for him to succeed

The only thing which is in Chawla's favor is that he is a leg spinner, so brings some variety to the spin attack. Ojha does spin the ball in the same direction as Chawla, but we already have a finger spinner in Harbhajan, so a wrist spinner would do no harm.
