It feels like Gaikwad will be the skipper after Dhoni says he's had enough - but not before.

Assuming three retentions and two RTMs, I'd expect them to look to keep Dhoni, Jadeja, Gaikwad, Curran (RTM) and Bravo (RTM). Don't know if RTMs are planned for the coming auction or not though

Let's see. I have been hoping that someone like a Gaikwad is given responsibility next year. If CSK have enough retentions, they can retain Dhoni and Dhoni can handover captaincy to Gaikwad and just play in the team as a keeper-batsman for 1 year and then retire mid-cycle.

I don't see MSD playing. Definitely not if it costs the franchise purse %. I think I would make Jadeja captain and put Gaikwad in as the deputy. Give Jadeja a season. If it works, Gaikwad can wait, otherwise a year in the leadership group should be sufficient. I think KL is set to captain RCB. If Iyer is not retained then he will 100% captain one of the new franchises. I think Hardik Pandya might end up in one of the new franchises and lead too.

I don't see Hardik being released if there are RTMs.

I don't see a point in continuing with Qdk. Yes he has been terrific player for MI but we have Ishan Kishan doing the same thing what Qdk does plus he is a local player.

They're talking about 4 retentions with a max of 3 Indian players. For Mumbai, that would mean Rohit, Bumrah and very likely one among Ishan or SKY. If thats the case, Hardik cant be retained as he will be the 4th and you cant retain 4 Indians. I see MI retaining Rohit, Bumrah, Ishan and Pollard.

Also there is talk about the two new franchises getting 3 special picks each that they can lock in pre-auction itself. So if the likes of Hardik is released, I am sure one of the two franchises will lock him in for themselves pre-auction.

The thing with CSK is, they're not a team that changes captains like they change clothes. The franchise has had only one captain so far since the inception of the tournament and that is MS Dhoni. So it makes logical sense for the franchise to think about choosing a captain that will serve them for a very very long time (possibly the next 10 years). That puts Ruturaj in a very strong position to take CSK leadership immediately. And having MSD for a year as a mentor-player and guiding Ruturaj from behind the stumps, can be the best possible transition. When MSD took over CSK, he was 27. Jadeja is 32.

That captain that CSK want to pick will opt out himself.

I completely agree on your point, Ishan has to be there, he has to be the leader after Rohit, mega auctions are always tough from the fan point of view... Rayudu, Rana, Bravo, DR Smith, Corey Anderson, these were some people who I wanted to stay forever in MI. Can't leave out Bhajji either.

Now where does this ridiculous obsession come from? I get your point of finding a leader after Rohit but we are talking about Kishan as leader just because his batting looks attractive?

We have RCB doing this for Kohli & DC for Pant. And we have seen the results. I don't see MI doing it.

Nah, he's lead India in U19s as well, purely based on that. Tbh I don't see Hardik leading us from the current lot, Surya is 31 also so assuming Rohit leads for the next 4 years, Surya will be 35, no point. I'd like your suggestions too, both Rohit and Pollard will be 38 by then though.

I don't think anyone from the current squad would be Captaining. I am certain that MI would be eyeing someone this time around in the auctions.

Also Captaining under-19 is different then IPL & other competitive form of Cricket. Kishan doesn't seem into that mould yet where he can Captain.
