@Mijurkat I have seen you here for the first time. Welcome!

No comparing ABD to anyone on these forums. There's a bloke here who has a bit of a love affair with him and takes things personally.

More serious matters, I think Jhye Richardson will be a millionaire. CSK should get Billings. I have no idea why they left him in the first place. Kid's a brilliant bat and a serious bloke!

Unadkat is the sort of bloke that makes you miserable about life. All the wealth, riches, fame, success and love to all the cricketers in the world but that guy really makes me pity my poverty.

I was also surprised when they left Billings. It's one of worst decision of CSK. I'm not sure they will pick him again. What's your view on Rassie van der Dussen?

He's a good batter and a fighting bloke but I don't think he's a long term prospect for any franchise. SA best young batting talent was Riley Roussow and he's left. Aiden Markram has just not received any exposure but that bloke is a serious talent.

The Proteas best batting talent IMO is QdK, when he's on song he could easily be a top ten batsman in the world. Shocking that Mumbai managed to snap him up.

As for Billings, he has all the talent in the world but somehow falters at the highest levels and turns out to be inconsistent. If he gets past that, could easily be a top class prospect given how comfortable he looks versus spin.

@Bigby Wolf Finchy is on the verge of being called world class in white ball cricket but I really don't rate him as a good prospect in the IPL. Works only as the opener and is very susceptible to certain types of bowlers. I do like him as a captain though, Australia were pretty much hopeless in LO cricket until he came into the leadership role.

The more I think about it, the more I feel that Smudge would be the perfect option for Chennai. We do have the cash to splash on our final overseas player and Punjab look like the only other franchise that would be heavily interested in him. If Starc is sold before him, expect Smudge to be a lot cheaper.

Thanks for that Unadkat update. Maxwell also will be a hot pick. What's your view on Ben McDermott? He is a big hitter. He looks and bats like ABD. I don't know why they picked Robbie. I think, CSK will go for Cutting or Hasaranga.
McDermott looked really average the last time he played for Australia. I assume he has enjoyed a monster BBL season to be taken seriously now.

Cutting is the last thing we need IMO with Curran and Bravo already present. Hasaranga could be interesting, I expect him to be sold for big bucks if the franchises do their scouting. A big hitting wrist spinner is worth all the money.

@LiveLoveABD Jhye Richardson barring injury will be a fantastic pickup for anyone, kid's got venom in ample amount and the talent to back it up. Can also hit a few balls down the order. Behrendorff is another interesting option if he is fit, the franchise owners sure do love a left arm bowler and he is extremely good in the powerplay.

Yes. I think, CSK will go for these replacements -

Piyush Chawla – KC Cariappa
Harbhajan Singh – K Gowtham
Monu Singh – Ankit Rajpoot / Varun Aaron
Kedar Jadhav – Shivam Dube / Ayush Badoni
Shane Watson – Ben Mcdermott / Steve Smith / Ben Cutting

QdK is absolutely world class. He is in my opinion one of the most valuable white ball players in the world and is so unbelievably underrated as is Jos Buttler. I think the fact that Maxwell consistently bags 10+ every auction and these two went for less than 5 each shows how fickle an auction is and also how stupid some franchises still are after one and a half decades.

When RCB got QdK for 2 odd and Moeen Ali for about that much, I felt we finally were becoming a franchise that valued these cricketers. But, in two years they both have departed. I had a man crush on AB even before DD picked him up and then got snapped up by RCB and what both franchises failed to realise is that he became a superstar in world cricket a few years into the RCB years.

You can pay a bomb and get a superstar for the league, but the cricketers that win you trophies and playoff births is a combination of established Indian stars, value for money overseas and most importantly the local talent. Mumbai are in this dominant position now simply because the Pandya's and Bumrah who were all just local talent when snapped up became established Indian stars while at the franchise.

When it comes to foreigners, Warner, ABD and Andre Russell are fine examples of the same. They became superstars thanks to the IPL. When they were snapped up, they were good international quality cricketers. Andre Russell I think was bought for 50L for the first few years.

@LiveLoveABD Steve Smith also was one of the picks of IPL. He played purely as a batsman for the PWI and that is where he realised the batting talent he possessed. He then moved to Rajasthan in 2014 and snatched Captaincy from Watto. He was a fine candidate to become a Captain to any side in world Cricket during that period. Suddenly he fell off the cliff during 2016-17 and then all that drama in 2018.

I kinda wish we (CSK) had released Imran Tahir. This could've allowed us to go for Steve Smith and another overseas player. Right now, if Steve Smith is picked by CSK, only one of him or Faf Du Plessis can play at a time. Both playing together along with Ruturaj, Dhoni and Rayudu, can easily give CSK the "starting trouble" and pose a huge risk of not getting proper momentum. Faf had a fantastic IPL in 2020 (in a disastrous year) and despite being 36, he is still the gun fielder that he always was. He is also a part time leggie like Smith, and their S/R are separated by just 2 points.

I can see the idea of CSK getting a captain in Smith, but its a potential Catch-22 for this season

I would definitely like us to get Steven Smith and fix our middle order woes! I do not know whats going to happen after this IPL but having Smith and Morgan in a lineup will be awesome. We have enough Indian bowlers who will do wonders in coming years.

Gill, Tripathi to open followed by Rana, Smith, Morgan, DK & Russel. Narine/Cummins switch based on form. Nagarkoti, Prasidh, Kuldeep form the Indian bowling lineup.

To be honest, I have a lot of respect for Faf because he's one of the guys who achieved a lot considering his talent. I don't think he had a great year last time as he often hit the throttle when the race was over. His fielding and fitness is something that comes naturally to him and I doubt it will ever be affected. He's always been a grinder who can go 125's and may be on some insane batting track really tee off but he is a lot in the mould of a T20 batsman who is becoming more outdated with every passing year. I think Smith is simply younger and more of a bank if he opens. Also, more of a long term prospect or at least a 4 year cycle player.

As far as Tahir goes, I wouldn't drop him if he's fit (bowling fit). He was literally unused last year and with just one year to run on the contract and no leg spinner in sight, it's a perfect fit. If I were CSK, I'd go for someone like Karun Nair. He can open, bat 3 and has literally been looking for an arm around his shoulder for 4-5 years. Something inside me says his career will witness a huge turn around with Dhoni still there even if it's just for one year.

KKR's issue is the obsession with Narine. He is not a batsman, at least not for the big occasion and I don't think he's someone who could destroy a team even on a rank turner. He is also unfit and the constant scrutiny around his action is an added issue. When you add to this the Russell fitness which is like the stock market KKR's overseas locker is rather bare. Cummins is a good purchase but not for that price. It isn't about the cricketer earning that much, it's about spending 20% of your purse on one player. If you add Narine and Russell then that's 40% on 3 players.

KKR should have gambled on releasing Cummins and look to buy him cheaper and may be even get Richardson if they couldn't get Cummins back. In the next auction cycle, KKR and DC will start strongest as they have all the riches in terms of young talent. It's just that they need a more balanced overseas lot and I for one don't subscribe to Morgan the captain. It means he has to play.
