Jack Hobbs looked undismissable for most part of his 264-ball stay until he reached 99. His eagerness to bring up three figures saw him play a rash shot to get out just one short of the mark. The Interwar XI grinded their way to 309, and were given a hard time by Jim Laker who picked 6 for 90 from 30.4 overs, including the all important wicket of Don Bradman stumped for 47.

Everton Weekes' impeccable knowledge of batting on subcontinental wickets came in handy for the Post-war XI as they went on to muster a 162-run lead, with Weekes scoring 155 off 306 balls. He was given some good support by Garry Sobers with whom he shared a 201-run partnership for the 4th wicket. Bill O'Reilly and Clarrie Grimmett, the two legendary leg spinners in the Interwar XI were rendered ineffective as a result.

Hobbs added another gritty half-century to his match total, but the rest of his team-mates faltered again. This time to the nagging pace duo of Alec Bedser and Alan Davidson, who claimed 4 for 36 and 3 for 47 respectively. Bradman, who promised much with his unbeaten 294 in the warm-up match disappointed with scores of 47 and 19. The Post-war XI were set a very mediocre target of 124 with plenty of time still remaining in the Test.

I feel our 1st game is toughest match in this season, but we did exceptionally well... It felt bad we didn't win the game, just 1 wicket needed and we didn't take that in the time...

Great game.. The bowling attack led by Laker and Bedsrr did really well to stop the Mighty batting lineup of the Interwar XI including the Don himself!

    And Everton Weekes You beauty!

The Twenty20 Era XI's middle-order failed to capitalize on the solid platform laid out by Graeme Smith and Ricky Ponting. AB de Villiers counter-attacked his way to 80 off 110 balls, adding some valuable runs with the lower-order in the process as they finished with 299.

Having reduced the Twenty20 Era XI lineup to 103/4, the Early Test legends may have envisioned running through a few more of their batsmen like they did in the first innings and getting themselves an achievable target to chase. But Sachin Tendulkar and AB de Villiers had different ideas. The classy pair added a massive 267-run partnership for the 5th wicket as they both coasted along to their individual centuries at different paces. Tendulkar's was faster coming off just 143 balls with a massive six off the Australian "demon" bowler Fred Spofforth. The Early Test legends were left with an improbable target of 487 to chase with around 5 sessions still remaining in the Test.

Centuries from Arthur Shrewsbury, Percy McDonnell and a classy 86 from the good doctor himself saw them put up a marvelous fight. They very nearly went the distance of drawing the match against all odds, but for Mitchell Johnson to strike with the final wicket of Charles Newhall just 13 minutes before stumps on the final day of the Test. James Anderson finished with the most impressive figures for his team, claiming 4 for 78 from 26 overs. The Twenty20 Era XI had emerged victorious by a margin of 97 runs. Nonetheless, a very impressive effort by the losing side.

    Lineup rules

    1) A proper wicket-keeper (:wk:/:wkb:/:arwk:) in your XI.
    2) A minimum of 4 players marked to bowl. I would suggest a minimum of 5 for matches on flat pitches to keep your frontline bowlers from total exhaustion.
    3) Players ruled out due to injury cannot be selected.
    5) The time limit for posting lineups is 96 hours. I will likely go with a random lineup if your lineup isn't posted within that time.
    6) You must also ensure all your associate players (:pst:) get at least one game over the course of the main tournament.

    Player rarities

In each squad, players have been marked with these icons to give you a fair idea of their playing skills and overall usefulness to your team.

:purpo: - Legend. Used for the players that are undoubtedly the best of the lot.
:goldo: - Gold. Used for players with a high level of consistency and ability to deliver during key moments.
:redo: - Ruby. Used for players that are extremely talented and can play in a way no one else can replicate.
:slvo: - Silver. Used for players that aren't as talented as their Gold/Ruby/Legend contemporaries, but still capable of holding their own against the best in business.

    Explanation on pitch types

Dusty - Plenty of turn on offer for spinners and a good place to bat for spin-savvy batsmen. Good pace bowlers are still likely to thrive.
Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines.
Flat - A batsman-friendly pitch which provides little or no assistance to bowlers. Expect big totals.
Green - A lot of movement on offer, which makes it ideal for bowlers capable of swinging the ball.
Hard - Ideal conditions for batting. Good deal of bounce on offer for fast bowlers as well. Could go either way.
Dry/Slow - Ideal for slow and spin bowlers as the name suggests. Sometimes quite difficult to bat on.
