A fantastic finale to finish off a fantastic tournament. Thank you to everyone that played, picked players drafted selected teams and to @Wavelberry for inspiring me with my bowling chances thanks to Pujara the legend. This was a cracking idea and perfectly done - very enjoyable month of AI vs AI cricket. Thank you to @wasteyouryouth for your creating, running, adapting and executing of this tournament from the lite and the draft to the streaming. Take time to rest mate you have done an exceptional job all round. There have been some amazing highlights from this journey and it has been a great and wild month of cricket fun. Who would have thought watching Pujara bowl a super over in a T20 match or seeing Cook see off the new ball in the power play would be our source of entertainment.

Thanks to everyone that played hit my dreadful bowling attack all round the park and out of Adelaide. I’m expecting my cheque from Jason Roy and Babar Azam for playing them into form and to every team that won the toss and made us bowl first. But seriously this was an amazing idea and fantastically done and it highlights the sense of community this forum has - if we didn’t already notice it. Hopefully we can do something like this again in the future - T20 is King - The P9 Panthers are the winners and the Lunatics are the fan favourites!

Bar is still open guys so get them in while you can. @wasteyouryouth you drink for free tonight my friend, but @Dutch if you could let Cooky know that I am cutting him off that would be great.

Cooky is in an alchohol induced coma and will not be drinking any more: however he did In the process manage to improve his overal tournament strike rate by 47 procent .

Ben Stokes also improved his strike rate: unfortunately with a broken glass and is now helping police with their inquiries.

Jack Leach will be unavailable as he will be busy polishing the glasses.

Ben Foakes will be present: he was initially sidelined due to having to self-isolate but then realised he cant catch anything.

@wasteyouryouth - you've done a marvellous effort with this lockdown tournament. Can't thank you enough for it.

Congratulations to @ameyp9 for the win.

To @passwordistaco, I think you and I are in the running for most under performed teams in the competition lol. Cummins was by far the worst signing for performance to auction cost lol.

The Winning XI of P9 Panthers

P9.jpg
Well, to start off I spent a lot of time during the auction on analyzing each player's skillset & rating only to realise I've picked a weak team as compared to all other teams, I missed out on players like Chris Green, Ravi Bopara, Shoaib Malik, Chris Jordan who were initially my first choice picks in the auction but I got some players at a bargain price. if you see Mayank Agarwal, Parthiv Patel, Krisnappa Gowtham & Dhawal Kulkarni all these players were bought for their base price in the auction and they did perform really well throughout the tournament. Players like Bailey & Dale Steyn disappointed the Panthers as they failed to perform. until the 3rd group game, I didn't have a fixed XI as I tried opening with Khawaja - Rahane, Khawaja - Agarwal, but the pair that succeded the most was the pair of Patel - Agarwal who put up 50+ stand twice in 3 games in under 6 overs. If we look at the bowling Steyn failed miserably as a captain & player who was soon sacked from the team. Gowtham, Dawson, Tahir went for runs but picked the key wickets in every game. Dhawal Kulkarni who was never part of my first XI was the man who technically won us the semi-final with his death bowling when Gilly's Grubs required only 10 off 12 balls. after the warm-up game I realised my team doesn't have a finisher and I knew I needed to try something different here so I went with Parnell in the warm game and almost pulled off an impossible chase scoring 24 off Ashwin's over. later I tried Gaikwad in the game against Short Leg's XI and that was a disaster so I just stuck with the order of Dawson - Pant - Parnell to finish off games whilst Agarwal - Khawaja - Rahane handled the top order.

So if you see winning this title was a team effort from all aspects, every player in the squad performed in every match which made us believed that somewhere down the line we have a chance here, I knew my team wasn't the strongest or the favourite to win the title but surely was a team which could upset big teams on even days. Rishab Pant led the team from the front scoring quick runs down the order and picked up some sensational catches behind the wickets.

I'd like to thank @wasteyouryouth for organizing this fabulous tournament in this lockdown making sure we aren't bored, this tournament really did keep me entertained. Thank you to all those participated and made it even more special. I'm looking forward to the 2nd season of the Lockdown Tournament as the P9 Panthers are here to stay & will hopefully defend their title in future tournaments.

Hello everyone,

Was going to do a round up yesterday but I was a bit distracted reading my diary and explaining my eye test to a bunch of idiots in my boss' garden.

We had a wooden spoon final first.

That was won, convincingly by Ducks XI. They beat Neptune Gaming despite a very good 79 from Chris Lynn. Congratulations to Ducks XI on not being the worst team, congratulations to Neptune Gaming on being the worst. Quite an achievement when Lucky Lockdown Lunatics and The Glasgow Grubbers were involved.

The Bronze Medal Match had an almost identical outcome. The team batting second chasing down a hefty score in the 190. This time it was courtesy of Hardik Pandya's 84* (maybe the BCCI need to get him opening, he's been very effective for Grubs). San Francisco Suckers finish is a very commendable 4th place while Gilly's Grubs take third.

Then we came to the final. The favourites Fire In Babylon taking on P9 Panthers.

Panthers batted first and made a great start with Parthiv Patel and Mayank Agarwal getting them into the 60's before a gradual clatter of wickets followed. It was Mitchell Starc that stared it with three wickets in the middle overs, the other followed. From 94/1 after 10 the Panthers only managed to score 170/9. This looked all set to be a procession for the fancied Fire.

Fire duly showed why they were favourites. Chris Gayle and Marnus Labuschagne opening and leading them to a very solid 74/1 before the first wicket dropped. A couple of quick wickets followed leaving Fire at 88/3. Som stabilising came from Kieron Pollard and Fire were steadily working their way to victory. Going into the last four overs, Fire needed just 32 with six wickets in hand. Then Imran Tahir had other ideas about the fate of the final. Three wickets in an over removed Pollard, Ambris and Narine. Suddenly if felt like there could be a twist. However, Shai Hope was at the crease with the competent batsman Vernon Philander. 14 from 12 needed it looked all set for a Fire win. Parnell and Kulkarni for P9 Panthers had other ideas and bowled two incredibly tight overs and Fire just couldn't get bat on ball (or swing the bat) and, remarkably, fell short by 6 runs. P9 PANTHERS THE CHAMPIONS OF THE SOCIAL DISTANCING SHIELD.

Congratulations to @ameyp9; he made some big decisions early on to his team and they paid off. Two games in a row they were as good as out when they bowlers conjured up some incredibly tight bowling to win the matches.

Commiserations to @Mouseydread despite knowing nothing about T20 cricket (so he says... ;)) he constantly tweaked and shuffled his pack and after the first match loss they came back with a great run of wins. This was a match too far though.

Thank you to everyone that has taken part. Definitely considering doing this again in some form.

Some statistics - safe to say being an opener and a spin bowler is best (particularly better than being a seam bowler)
