Mass Effect

I like the look of this, but you know me, I like long games. So, is this one of those Oblivion like epics that you can play for months if you don't rush through the main quest and would you guys recommend it overall (PC Version)?

Edit: I note it's by Bioware (who did the Knights of the Old Republic games, didn't they?) I have to say, I didn't like the combat in KoToR, it doesn't feel as though you're in control of the fight, but in this one I've heard you can fight your battle, but you can also pause and throw orders at your team mates as well and that would be the perfect balance for me, so I really hope it's true. It also sounds like there's the possibility of the odd space battle as well?

You are 100% correct about the combat. It's different to KOTOR, which I loved, in that its you actually firing the weapon in an over the shoulder view style.

The game is more linear than Oblivion, but thats an injustice as its not designed to be open world. You get to drive your lunar buggy over loads of planets, and theres opportunity to blow up huge snake monster things as well as enemies like droids. You then control your character inside space stations and cities.

It's a great game, loved every minute of it. It looks great, and the story telling is the best I've ever come across. I often skip through talking scenes, but not in Mass Effect. It's cinematically superb.

I bet you could get it for about £10. I recommend you do

Great game but get the 360 version, the PC version contains a DRM that only allows you to install the game 3 times. To play again you must buy again.

Surely he's wrong? You don't usually have to buy the game again, you just have to contact EA, like with SPORE, Fifa 09 and others? And isn't there usually a 'de-authorise' option now, so you can get an install back?

By the way, is this ok for a child (eleven)?

Yeah the guy is completely wrong. Firstly, its 5 install. Secondly, they are hardware installs, so they are only used when you put it on another machine. The DRM is nothing, like you say, you're either careful and leave it on your PC, or simply ring the company and they unlock it for you.

The game is a 12+, so I wouldnt think an 11 year old would have a problem. There is no blood, although there is a lot of shooting, and a few swear words, but nothing horrendous. To be honest, its your call, maybe give it a play through first.

Yeah man, it is the equilevent to a PG movie, nothing the kid wouldn't of seen before.

What's 'Dead Space' PC like? Is it a long game? Is it too similar to Doom 3 (I've heard people compare it to that game).
